Time to upgrade the axle shafts in the 1991 Jeep Wrangler YJ. I have removed the split axle shaft locking mechanism and so now it is time to put in Ten Factory chromoly replacement shafts.
It was nice that you showed the removal of the left side axle seal. You didn't show removal and install of the right side seal or the install of the left side seal.
When I recently did this project I had to redo the passenger side seal. The lip tore off the one that was included with the ten factory axle kit. I greased it well, it was square, and it was riding on the machined portion of the new shaft, but a week later it was leaking. The new one has been holding so far.
Nice job!! Looks great all cleaned up and painted..how does the front end respond/ sound when turning with the locker in there now? Was thinking about doing this upgrade to mine but don't want to loose the drivability since mine is my daily driver.....
With the lunch box locker it does kick in when doing a real tight turn but otherwise it is not noticeable. I can see why people would go selectable locker when you remove the split shaft.
Did you have to change your front drive shaft? Mine began to warp, think like a spaghetti noodle spinning real fast. I had to upgrade to a 2" Adam drive shaft once I locked my CAD system.
How do u like the solid shafts with the lunch box locker? Also do you have power steering? I also have a solid passenger shaft, and Have been thinking about a lunchbox locker, but conserned about it locking and jerking the wheel whiel turning. I have manual steering
I have power steering. Full lock turns with the lunchbox and solid shaft do engage the locker a little but only at full lock. Otherwise it is great. Love it off road because it is always there when you need it.
@@gustavovelez3316 No, you can keep the differential open if you would like. Many people like an open front differential so their turning is tighter and easier.
