A quick walk around of my 1991 Jeep Wrangler YJ. This is what I'm working with after two and a half years of slowly building up the modern equivalent of the YJ that I wanted when I was in college. Jeep YJ Build Playlist - • The YJ
Lol I have never seen someone hate on a Ford 8.8 swap. I have blown up D35’s and D44’s in the rear… I swapped a F8.8 and never had any more problems on my XJ 🤷🏼♂️ Cool YJ by the way!
You have a nice yj. Building the way you wanted is what you're supposed to do. If you had built it the way others wanted you, then you wouldn't have liked it. Great job on it.
Thanks, it just always amazes me how personally people take it when you don't do things the way they say you should. Most of them have never even done the thing they are telling me to do lol.
@@HardEarnedBacon you know, there's nothing wrong with some input, but people shouldn't get mad or upset if you don't do it their way. Some advice is good some ways my be better, but when in comes down to it, it's not their jeep.
It works man! And trail tested! Just got back from my shakedown after the rollover and cage install. Damn i missed driving my yj! 😆 Just installed the prp seats they arnt too bad. Hope to see ya on the trail one day. Stay safe and happy trails 👣
Im going to say about 8000. After purchase price. When i did mine i spent around 10,000. With me doing all the work. But it all depends what you want to do with it. Mine is a shitbox but will climb everything! 😆
Been watching your videos for a while. I’ve seen the whole build. Had no idea it was an Islander. I have a 1991 Islander manual 6cyl myself. Some of the mods I can do, some I can’t 👍🏻
Haha yeah it wasn't until I got the registration in my name that the inspection report showed it was an Islander. Explains the holes in the tub from where the step used to be.
I like it! My 88 is very similar to yours. Only differences are that I went SOA on my build and I run a carb on my 4.0 (something I hear flak about as well). Watched your Rubicon run and it looks like it handled it fine. Nice work!!
Hello I have a 1990 Yj Laredo. My column shift is all over not finding gears. It’s my automatic shift linkage bracket is rusted and not attached. Could you please take a picture of the bracket and where it attaches. Love the Jeep the build is awesome. Thanks
Nice. Great follow-through at the end of the changes to come, ie exhaust down pipe. But what about a floor shifter setup? Something similar to a TJ? Or that LJ you now have? Its a lot easier to slap the shifter into neutral from any forward gear when needed, maybe even pushing the button and getting into the reverse gate, when its on the floor than the column.
The goal is to do a floor shifter and have a trans with a reverse manual valve body. Not sure how soon that will happen though since I am still debating what to do with the engine. I can get a RMVB for the 999 but if I go with something other than the 4.0 I probably won't be keeping that trans. Not sure yet, decisions to be made.
If I could go back and had the extra time/money when I was building the axles I would go with selectable lockers, at least in the front. At the time that didn't fall into my idea of a "budget build" and this isn't a daily driver so I took the cheaper and easier route of lunchboxes front and rear. Having run the Rubicon and been on some tight trails at Moab and other places I really miss the maneuverability of open diffs and only locking when needing too, plus it's rough on other parts when locked 100% of the time. The LJ will be getting an Ox front and rear for this reason. Otherwise I really wouldn't change much, it is exactly what I thought it would be and wanted.
How much of a clearance did you get from the wj Knuckles? I'm actually going full hydro, but if i can get more clearance from my Leafs, i might do that, but I want to make sure it's worth spending some more money to swap.
I didn't do a before and after measurement but it was pretty significant since I went OTK. If you are SOA you can't do OTK because it will hit the springs so it won't be as much clearance.
@HardEarnedBacon I'm staying SUA. Don't care to fight with track bars and anything extra. I was trying to find picture comparison. But wasn't sure either. And I've also been working on redoing my axle mounts vs the factory one.
