Installing a slip yoke eliminator (SYE) in my NP231 transfer case in my Jeep Wrangler YJ. Kit is from Alloy USA and I would recommend the Advance Adapters kit instead.

PARTS-
Alloy USA SYE (that I used) - amzn.to/3E5MZzo
Advance Adapters SYE (recommend this one) - amzn.to/3U9Qomg
Rear driveshaft - amzn.to/3NEAcXI (I used a Tom Woods but this one has good reviews. Make sure to check your U-joint at the axle end, it could be a 1310 or a 1330)
Transfer case ATF - amzn.to/3UxrlJL

Dude, just found the channel and you are my brother from another mother, awesome build, binged the entire YJ series and now have a huge part list for my 91. Although I will say mine is a rusty crusty northeast Jeep, so I hate you when I see a bolt come right out for you

Haha awesome. And yeah I really appreciate the west coast desert climate when it comes to working on these old Jeeps.

So your video saved my butt from a lot of heartache. I was in the middle of this and never saw anything about cutting the rod or removing bearings. And I have a 91 but for some reason I guess it had a transfer case swap at some point from an earlier 88-89 bc my rod measured 10.2. Thanks for the detailed video!

Glad it helped! Not sure what year they changed it but mine is a 91 too and had the bearings and longer shaft.

That rear driveshaft is adorable, lol. Cant wait to see some pics/ vids from EJS, very jealous I can't be there. One day I will build another Jeep and join you and Stephen out there!

Hey man, this is my next project after lifting mine a bit, even though only lifted about 3.5” I have some vibes, on deceleration mostly. I was wondering why you said in your description you’d go with the Advanced Adapters SYE instead of what you got? Also, have you seen the JB Conversions SYE and what do you think? I’d have to switch to an electronic speedometer set up if I went with their shorty kit but don’t know if it’s worth the hassle for a 3.5 inch shorter yoke. I’m trying to future proof any upgrades I’m doing but also can only do so much at one time. Thanks for the video as usual, watched and saved this long ago. You’re an inspiration and also a pain cause you make me want to spend money on tools!😁
@HardEarnedBacon
@HardEarnedBacon 2 года назад
Haha yeah I love my tools, can never have enough! The Alloy USA kit that I bought is just the Rugged Ridge kit with an extra sticker and a higher price which is the main reason I wouldn't recommend it. The AA kit seems to be the best regarded SYE just from talking to people and reading reviews which is the one I tried to buy at the time but was on backorder for several months. The mega-short SYEs- unless you are running a ridiculous amount of lift on a Wrangler and/or a belly-up skid causing a crazy steep driveshaft angle I don't think you would see any real benefit over a standard SYE.

Did you change the pitch of your rear, and if so how did you do it? I have a 1993 wrangler YJ and I put stock leaf springs on it and it lifted it a little bit. The drive shaft is rotating on more of an angle now. Would I need to put a SYE on it to help it out? I am not getting any vibrations. Also I watched a lot of these videos on replacing the SYE and everyone used RTV to seal the mating surface. Don’t they have a gasket for this application?
@HardEarnedBacon
@HardEarnedBacon Месяц назад
If you don't have vibrations then I wouldn't worry about it. There is no gasket for the 231.

The only grease I used was a very light coat of general purpose grease around the yolks where they ride on the seal. The RTV that I used to seal up the case and output shafts is Permatex Ultra Grey.

@HardEarnedBacon
@HardEarnedBacon Год назад
@@stevecovington1284 if you have vibrations you can add a transfer case drop which is cheap and easy, or you can do the SYE and double cardan driveshaft which is more expensive and difficult but a better option. If you don't have any vibrations I wouldn't worry about it and drive it as is.
