I studied Jeet Kune Do to Associate Instructor, and various other Martial Arts before this since I was 15. I'm 54 now and after everything is learned, the best teaching I'd acquired was from The S.C.A.R.S. Institute of Combat Sciences in Las Vegas. My instructor at the time was Tim Larkin. I'd first spoke with him on the phone back in 1993. I never imagined I'd be speaking to a man that would end up training the deadliest fighters in the world. The Navy Seals utilized the creator of the fighting system developed by Jerry Peterson. Anyway I'd used what I learned from Jeet Kune Do at the civilian training facility when training under Mr. Larkin. He was actually impressed at the speed I had and I'd mentioned to him that thanks to JKD I'm a better fighter. I'll never forget that weekend training session all those years ago. I ended up arriving late at the SCARS Institute and wasn't able to receive my SCARS Full Instructorship, nevertheless I didn't mind because all that mattered is that I learned one of the deadliest forms of combat. Thank you Mr. Larkin.

Old fashioned JF-JKD. I've yet to see compound trapping work in actual fighting. Against karateka that do hard blocks this might still work but kickboxers will not block downward.

The idea is it hit.... But most get stuck on what's being taught and not how to make it work for them. Trapping definitely works and worked for me but not in the training sequence manner rarely ever I have. Simple solid pak Sao has worked wonders when correctly executed that of your opponent and not imagination

Then again this is not this is jkd concepts this is not old fashioned Jun fan jkd... If you really want old fashioned raw look up Jesse Glover and Ed Hart. That's raw jkd

It's really nice to watch and a great performance indeed.. But definitely a waste of time when it comes to the battlefield. And, the great Bruce Lee was sure that trapping is a waste of time.. The art jeet kune do is so much a modern business that is hard to know what the main idea jun fan has been.. Nowadays, like in the 80 90 s everyone believed he can step in the footsteps of this great and generous person. I cant hardly enough say.. By the end its a waste of time if you want to defence yourself.. You can't act boundless when you're bound.. You can't react free without this stuff and you will be terrible get beaten in a match with a boxer, that's for sure. Trapping looks great bit it is swimming on dry land. Everyone wants to be like Bruce Lee. Nobody nearly no one can teach you the hard fact being confronted wit.. Anger.. Adrenaline.. Real hard and fast punches. Hard verbal attacking. Hard appearances.. People.. Please the truth is outside from all patterns.. Don't be a slave to this grandmaster or that system.. When you pick one of all this studio tigers and set him in a gootballstadium or in a biker bar.. Or even between hustlers.. You wouldn't believe how they would react.. You can hide behind a system you can hide behind buffed muscles you can hide behind belts but the hard truth is normally the victory.. And trust me... It is the truth which hurts the most........

Except that Jeet Kune Do is not a system! It’s is a concept. The so-called system that people teach stopped evolving when Bruce died. These guys still teach convoluted ancient techniques that are not practical!!!

Yeh I don’t think trapping taught in most classes are practical. Even if one could pull it off, they would need serious speed, and that’s just to safely pull off 1-2 hits before backing out.
@vardr_runanna_8
@vardr_runanna_8 2 года назад
Weel, if you train in Jeet Kune Do, you'll learn that speed is just as important as the moves, and that there is no backing out at all, until you're positive that the opponent/assailant isn't getting back up.

The guy defending seems to just shell up. Most of the time when I'm fighting/sparring my opponent doesn't just curl up when I launch an attack. Many times they will even take a punch to land one. I don't think this is very realistic.

Keep in mind that this is just a video demonstrating each movement, and both people in the video are just taking turns per demonstration - it's not an actual sparring session.

Too much trapping. Bruce Lee discarded that as not applicable in a real fight

on the contrary, Bruce Lee left in his notes the privacy of trapping to preserve ip Man's training methods, but he told the inosanto not to transmit too much because the trapping of JKD Even if in a modified form it comes from ip Man's wing chun curriculum, that is, you are just wrong, the sources are the first generation students, who have already stated this on BlackBelt Magazine.
@truthserum9456
@truthserum9456 Год назад
@@mrh4nma no sir you are the one who is dead wrong, Bruce Lee stated multiple times that wing Chun trapping was ineffective in a real fight and only worked well on small people. It looks good on screen because you have 2 cooperating individuals. I recommend a little bar fighting or a good match with a boxer because as you already are well aware of Bruce Lee said it will not work on a good boxer stated by your very own Dan Inossanto .Want to see good jkd look at Tim Tacketts group. lWhy are you people so in a box about your particular martial art?
@mrh4nma
@mrh4nma Год назад
@@truthserum9456 I wouldn't say that Bruce Lee put trapping as a first feature in JKD, but by no means did he rule it out, remember that JKD's focus is on hitting!!! now you come here to invent arguments non-existent is asking to be ashamed, at no time did Bruce Lee rule out trapping, he only left it as a second resort in cases of infight, so much so that there is that nonsense about Bruce having Stopped teaching chi sao, and he really stopped teaching, but not because of discarding it, but because of routine weariness, his life is too busy with movies and among many things, he closed one of his schools, And he started teaching in the backyard of his house, there are even videos in that backyard, Bruce Lee teaching fenced approach sequences with lead kicks, Short trapping sequences to the close combat, Power training and among many drills, Remembering that these videos were recorded in the death game period just before Bruce was called to do enter the Dragon, You just didn't look it up and you couldn't connect things, Bruce passed away after entering the dragon, He didn't rule out anything!!!
@mrh4nma
@mrh4nma Год назад
@@truthserum9456 Now refute me!! Show me evidence that Bruce Lee ruled out trapping other than his two misguided students in Ted and Jesse, take Carruthers and Marx off the subject, and show me sources coming directly from Bruce, That he discarded tools and left them explicitly open that he discarded them, I already applied real-time trapping, and I do have an idea of what I mean, if you think that trapping is those Those long sequences from the IP Man movies you are very wrong and you don't understand Jkd.

No offense but Dan inosanto started all this rubbish... The only people whose jkd looks legit and realistically effective and principle based are Tommy Carruthers (your lineage) , and Octavio Quintero(Jerry poteet lineage). This french guy quit his own jkd and learned pekiti tersia in the philipines which he now teaches.
