Dedicated to All Martial Arts enthusiast. Enjoy!
Jeet Kune Do was Bruce Lee's innovation to martial arts developing fast twitch, explosive punching & kicking power. In order to be proficient in this art one must exercise regularly to achieve overall physical fitness results. Weight, strength, and flexibility training is also stressed to stay in good health.
"The explosive power people hope to achieve is not through advanced Jeet Kune Do training but through individual dedication from the very start. Look to a school or teacher who emphasizes intercepting principles (not techniques) in every fighting category! As distance changes between you and your opponent, your weapons must adaptively change!" - Octavio Quintero
Octavio's training resembles a cross between rapid punching speed of a boxer and the agility of a fencer.
Music:
The Chromatics -- Tick of the Clock
Immediate Music -- Naked Prey
Bloodsport Soundtrack -- Kumite
Q & A with Octavio's teacher, Jerry Poteet (an original Bruce Lee student)
Q: How do you define Jeet Kune Do?
A: JKD is the art of intercepting a hit with a hit. Simply to simplify. It is uncluttered and direct.
Q: What do you think Bruce was trying to pass on to his students?
A: The difference between "doing" and "being." In other words, don't just do the movement, be the movement.
Q: What do you think Bruce meant by change and evolution?
A: The evolution he talked about is on a personal, individual level. Jeet Kune Do is the key that brings about that change and evolution.
"No two musicians play "Moonlight Sonata" on the piano exactly the same. Their phrasing, what notes they choose to amplify, et cetera, are different from each other, because of the emotional approach, or attitude they bring to the piece. But they can't say they are playing Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" unless they play the notes that he wrote; they can't choose to do their own t hing and play whatever, and still call it "Moonlight Sonata!" In the same way, you can't do whatever and call it "My JKD." You are doing Bruce Lee's art of Jeet Kune Do, or you're not doing it at all."

Simple, Direct and Non-Classical. I think Bruce himself would be proud to see the essence of his art being carried on so well.

its great to see that Bruces art is indeed in safe hands here . . just a nice example of how explosive you have to be . . . anyone looking at this would instantly recognise the dynamics . . most fights begin this way so look at this recognise the ESSENCE of what is being demonstrated then go practice !! thanks for the upload and the free pointers . .

it's good to see another person who is being Inspired by Bruce Lee. Jeet Kune Do has it's base in Wing Chun but let's not get too excessive with the Wing Chun inside fighting. Bruce Lee also learned Gung Fu too so some of his movements is actually Chinese Kung Fu movements as well , not just Wing Chun wooden dummy movements. Some of Bruce's movements was like Tai Chi which is a big part of his fighting style, and he also moved and bounced around like a boxer or a fencer sometimes. He had a lot of rythm like a dancer and Bruce was just the complete package and I've still not found anyone who can emulate him 100%.

Glad to have trained with Octavio these past 7 years and with Jerry when I met him. Also happy to have met and trained with the people in the vid that have stayed committed or moved on in their training. It's great to see these videos being shared so that others can take on the principles and apply it in their daily lives to overcome their limitations in their process of transforming. Regardless of what art people take, it's there for us to evolve. No need to dominate each other. Just train.

Awesome! JKD. I hope to one day find a good instructor who is reasonable in tuition as well. I hear some of these guys talking about JKD doesn't produce good fighters. Here's the thing if JKD was into training fighters then they would have to teach them the rules. In Jeet Kune Do there are no rules the prize is you get to go home with your life and to your loved ones. This is all about WAR and survival. God Bless Sigung Bruce Lee's soul for this GREAT concept of self defense fighting.

The sad thing is most JKD instructors have no proper training when it comes to coaching fighters. Sure they can teach but just because you can teach doesn't mean you can produce fighters.

love those to-the-knee attacks - so simple but so effective. I fought this guy and did a straight punch/back leg to the knee combo - my punch missed and he clocked me in the face - but my to-the-knee kick hit at the same time as his punch - for a second I couldn't see (from the punch), but my kick connected so as I shook off the punch - I realized he went down(and stayed down) from the knee kick.

everybody i wanna ask what is actually of JKD? is it form or philosopy? i saw there were many man who claim their style is jkd but i saw different movement.
@underdogmage5607
@underdogmage5607 8 лет назад
+Zain Iqbal a mixture of both i guess. but more on the philosopy style. to feel for the situation. But of course form comes with it. The "dancing" footwork, the short range multiple punches. Bruce didn't study multiple styles for just words
@pierres.cleary1463
@pierres.cleary1463 8 лет назад
+Zain Iqbal It's both. There is two important legacy. The second legacy is closer to the philosophy than the form. In this second legacy you may find Dan Inosanto that integrated elements of Kali and just almost stopped to use the original form. The first legacy keeps elements of the original form called Jun Fan's Gung Fu (Jun Fan is the cantonese name of Bruce Lee) and brings it to a complete other level by keeping the philosophy of simplicity. The basic form is Jun Fan's Gung Fu but the influence of time, experience and simplicity is the Jeet Kune Do you can see in that video, the first legacy who is today really well represented by Octavio Quintero. You may also take a look to Tommy Carruthers(teaching of the last 2 years not the older one) and Paul Vunak. If sometime you watch MMA. Anderson Silva use influence of Jun Fan's Gung Fu and of course Jeet Kune Do in the way he fights. Watch the use of his low kick and how he protect or counter-attack with his left hand but keep in mind : MMA is a sport and Jeet Kune Do is self-defense.

Dawadah is right about JKD not being a style. It is a philosophy. The essence of this philosophy is choosing what works for YOU, independently from the style. So at the end, no one can say that he's teaching JKD. This is a big misconception.

@ping-pong88
@ping-pong88 9 лет назад
Sorry to say it, but no jkd fighters will never win in a tournement with real fighters, because they're still limited to jkd, and when they fight, they fight for themselves and probably for the honor of Bruce Lee (limitation) in the mind too, and so they're doom to lose of that, because they're fighting with more aspects than the fight itself.............. "dont be a hater, just my opinion"
@blackenskatography9928
@blackenskatography9928 8 лет назад
+ping pong using no way as way, having no limitation as limitation, because Sijo Bruce have no limitation & that is his limitation, JKD using everything that is possible to use in the body as a weapon with no limitation as that is oso the limitation in JKD to go into combative sport , that is y JKD can't be using for combative sport as combative sport have a lot more limitation then JKD as they are base on rule, bt well JKD is an endless evolutionist art, it depend whether JKD practitioner wanna evolve it or not, Sijo Bruce die young don't blame him, his training really ahead of his time, just blame the current JKD practitioner of stop evolving his art, I'm current learning original JKD in future i will evolve JKD into two way , first way true original JKD, second way incorporate all rule of combative sport modify original JKD to suit combative sport, bt the second way is just a marketing purpose to let people noe want original JKD is.

Basically JKD is Wing Chun one must first learn and master the Chi in the forms and the drills in Wing Chun. Then then you can be free of Wing Chun and that's JKD. JKD is something you learn from your own self expression of Wing Chun.

@WCtrainer1
@WCtrainer1 10 лет назад
JKD is NOT an art nor is it a style but simply a philosophy that was an expression of one man's experience by the name of Bruce Lee of which the foundations of this philosophy is from Wing Chun. JKD is nothing more than Bruce's expression of Wing Chun. Expressing self skills is something that is within the core of what Wing Chun teaches it's practitioners in the first place. Do not be fooled by the idea of JKD being a style or an art, this was something that Bruce never wanted nor intended to create. To create yet another style that can be boxed in. Whom ever teaches the idea or the notion that JKD is an art or a style by an of itself is selling nothing but a false idea.
@jadielalvelo4651
@jadielalvelo4651 10 лет назад
To say there is no "art" aspect to JKD is to completely disregard all of the time and effort Bruce put in to studying martial arts as well as denying the philosophies and beliefs the Bruce proposed would make JKD work in the first place. Is there a philosophical side of JKD? Yes, but philosophy alone is not enough to win a battle.
@WCtrainer1
@WCtrainer1 10 лет назад
Jadiel Alvelo I think you're caught in the worlds of arts and styles. This was exactly what Bruce was against. Read my prior comment again or I will repeat it again and you can argue this all you want but the fact remains, If you understood what wing chun truly teaches and stands for in it's core you would come to realize that it is everything that Bruce preached, taught, philosophized and expressed. What Bruce simply did was what Wing Chun taught him, to express one's way of fighting. The exception here is that he had to find it out on his own since his training in wing chun was incomplete and he didn't have anyone in U.S. at the time to elevate his training and understanding in Wing Chun. See, I'm not denying what Bruce philosophized, believed or worked on, I'm simply exposing the false notion that you think it was something different than WIng Chun and calling it JKD. Something that even he regretted doing in naming it JKD so people like you wouldn't latch on to another art or style.
@jadielalvelo4651
@jadielalvelo4651 10 лет назад
Gabar-GCS JKD has always been about self expression While using effective techniques. Is it different than Wing Chun? Yes, of course it is. Does it make it any more or less affective? No. My point is that Bruce did in fact teach a way of fighting. Like it or not JKD has RULES. If you want to interpret this as you do than that's fine.
@WCtrainer1
@WCtrainer1 10 лет назад
Jadiel Alvelo you keep arguing but FAIL to see even your own comments that leads to what exactly wing Chun is, A SELF EXPRESSION OF FIGHTING. And NO. it is not different than wing Chun. It is simply one mans expression of it. Stop trying to argue otherwise.
@jadielalvelo4651
@jadielalvelo4651 10 лет назад
Gabar-GCS lol Wing Chunder way n is one of the most rigid martial arts in existence. If you deviate from its rule set then its no longer WC. JKD is a mix of WC, western boxing and western fencing. JKD and WC ARE NOT THE SAME. You should really do some research before talking out of your ass.
