Jeff deserves to be remembered not only for his playing but for how he gave so many opportunities to so many young, incredibly talented female musicians.
He didn't believe in using a lot of pedals. He said that when guitarists do that, the audience is hearing the pedal. He made his own sounds up and they were like none other. The guy was an absolute genius. lol
Jimmy Page was asked once what it was like to be the best guitarist? He said don't know ask Jeff Beck!!!! Of the first "guitar gods" Beck-Page-Clapton" NO QUESTION WHO WAS #1 Jeff!! Also as Page had said he just kept getting better and better. I am a 73 year old guitar player. Have followed him from the 60's. This has been a tough year for lose. Tina, Cosby, Kim Simons and a few others. All put together did not hit as hard as losing Jeff. I cried for over a week each time I saw a clip or some of the many who shared there feeling. THERE IS NOR WILL HERE VERY BE A REPLACEMENT! Thank you for all you gave to so many. RIP, NEVER FOR GOTTEN :-(((
Well, after 60 years of experience and using lots of sound effects no surprise - I never heard him playing on a acustic guitar like Joe Bonamassa or even Prince!
I'm 61, I was fortunate to have been able to see Jeff and most of the greats from the 60's and 70's the best era of music ever and JB was one of the best. I'm still going to see as many of them as I can, last I saw Jeff Beck was about 10 years ago. I hope in 100 years they will look back on this era of music with the same awe and admiration as those of us who lived through it do today!
The future will have no choice but to look back and remember it, because, not only was it that period's best music, it was also the music that changed the world for the better. Rock will always be king. It may change forms but it will still always uphold the same fundamental principles as all of it's prior incarnations, namely 'rebellion' against 'the man'. SMIB
I got your 6. The mold was cast, for our generation,in the 1930's. May our brother, and great friend, rest now. Gone from this earthly plane, but never forgotten.
@@victord840 Indeed. Some musicians' deaths have hit me harder than others. Hendrix and Janis especially. Lennon, maybe the hardest. I still remember the moment I heard it. And now this one. But...life does go on. Anicca vata sankhara. Thanks for your response.
Was at this concert and must say Jeff Beck didn't disappoint in the least! The man was an absolute beast! He has been one of my favorite guitarists since the 60's. He was a great influence on me taking up the guitar in 1964! Still every time he came out he had reinvented himself! His mastery of the Strat will never be imitated to his level! Sorely missed and leaves me sad every time I think about his passing!
I'm at a loss mostly. Jeff was/still is in my favorite top three ever. Singularly unique but unable to be defined. And groundbreaking. Very heavy heart. ♥
@@mwbrada I have a very heavy heart too Matt. I had a chance to see him in concert in 2010, and the whole experience changed my life. A true master of the guitar. There will never be another.✌️
@@strat0871 yep. THE only guitarist/musical performer, who's death genuinely knocked me for 6. Maybe folks who don't play guitar, can't grasp the mystery of how he pulls some notes from the air? That are so unfeasible & of a pitch perfect beauty something extraordinary is being witnessed. A privilege to behold! He said he'd surpass Hendrix & maybe he did.
This touches me very much. He was so on top of his game ... amazing in every way. I can't believe he passed away just a few months after. He must be the most articulate guitar player ever or at least all the way up there. There is so much nuance in every note. The way he uses the volume and the whammy bar, vibrato and finger attack is so unbelievably unique. That is true and unsurpassed mastery. Virtuosity is not defined by notes per second - he was a real virtuoso.
One of my heroes as a teen and now 50 yrs.later . Heartbroken is how I feel. He had so much more to live and love and entertain at will. He sermed so healthy of a guy. I dont understand why he's gone,no warning . I really still am in shock. Condolences to family and friends and even fans.so confused.
Meningitis is evil. By the time you decide that you have to go to the doctor for your stiff neck and headache it's usually too late. It strikes fast and kills usually within hours
He WAS a healthy guy -- until he wasn't. The UK is now experiencing over 2,000 excess deaths PER WEEK. This phenomenon started in 2021. A guy like Jeff doesn't just get bacterial meningitis unless his immune system has been compromised.
A year on after Jeff’s very sad passing. But isn’t it amazing that he’s still with us with all of his wonderful music in this great video? Don’t know how many times I’ve watch it in this last year. So absolutely great! RIP Jeff! Thanks for everything.

@@denafitzgerald2554 At the top level , They are all fantastic and equal .Allan H is amazing but no one is best.I prefer Tommy Emmanuel. Its all Subjective and as that Subjectivity can NEVER be universal such statements as "best" are wrong.
@@denafitzgerald2554 Allan is the best Allan. I'm not sure how to compare him to literally anyone. I freaking love the guys playing, but Beck by way of comparison is accessible, where Allan is maybe a bit challenging at times. There's really no winning these type of things.

“Jeff come “Beck”! Life is sad and bleak without you." Although I am ten years younger than him, I consider it a blessing that I was able to follow his early brilliance in real time. Thanks to Jeff, I also started playing guitar. Rest in peace! My condolences to everyone!
I’m a little lost for words right now. This one has hit me hard. Jeff was to me the ideal musician archetype. He was someone who always pushed himself to try new musical ideas, never resting on his laurels, and constantly evolving. It’s incredible to think about how much he evolved from the time of “blow by blow “through “live at Ronnie Scott’s “and then beyond as evidenced from this 2022 performance. And he was always fresh, a musician who truly demonstrated what it means to emote on an instrument. The nuance, the touch, the ability to do things that most of us fine impossible. Pure aboration for me personally…. Right up there with Charlie CHRISTIAN and Hendrix in terms of how much he changed the way us guitarists think about musical possibilities. He lived a much longer life than those other players, but still this happened far too soon. I was going to see him in Toronto this past October, but circumstances made it impossible for me to go. I regret that one now big-time. At least the music will live on forever and continue to inspire. RIP guitar slinger
Well said correct one,off brilliant player such a sadd loss saw him many times great live thanks jeff for all the years of listening to you been great master of the whammy bar and volume control rip jeff you won't be forgotten your music will live on for years 🙏
RIP Jeff. More heartbreaking news for 2023... smh. I'll miss your music Jeff! Another blues stringer gone home to the great jam session in heaven.. Thanks for the upload Mike.
Man.. @43:38 Jeff starts a semi-tone low, and just goes along with it! Look at his reaction, he even smiles, and finds time to place his hand on his heart, in between notes! What a Legend he is!! Jeff Beck is not "amongst the 5 best guitarists", he is the best of'em all! Even Jimi would have been standing there watching, with his jaw on the floor!!
Most people wouldn't have even noticed, if Beck hadn't done the oops move. Man Beck caught it quick. I can't think of any other time I've heard him start at the wrong fret or any off notes.
My uncle got me Blow by Blow for Christmas in 1975. I was 8 years old. Over the years I loved it more -n-more every time I listened to it. He's the virtuoso of his ilk...There and Back.
March ,1977. My sister and 3 friends died that Feb 26th, in a fluke boating accident- a river run I turned down twice because I wanted to go to the racetrack! Anyway come March '77, I see and buy Jeff Beck live with the Jan Hammer group. That album got me through a lot- "[Earth darkness in search of sun." I have been following Jeff ever Since!
One of the few guitarists who could be identified by literally a single note. One of the greatest -- and most innovative -- to ever play the guitar. RIP, Jeff, and thank you. Your body of work will live on forever.
@@richardrejmer8721 Definitely King and Santana. I'd add Garcia, Malmsteen, Reinhardt and possibly Van Halen. And I'm sure a few others I can't think of right now.
As a professional musician of over 50 years and a Jeff Beck fan for even longer, the lineup with Jeff, Vinnie, Jason and Tal is still, by far, my favorite and from the interviews I've seen, I think it was his favorite as well!
We will not see or hear the likes of this guy again? They broke the mould when he passed. Thank you Jeff for years of your incredible Guitar work may God bless you. There can only be One.🔓🔓
I have not seen any musician of that age still have the skill, ability, wit and talent. Of all the guitar heroes of the 60s, he is undoubtedly the one who has best preserved his skills, in this concert I think he plays the same or better than when he was 30 years old. Rest in peace. Thank you for this testimony for posterity.
A good point, David. He was 78, and still in quite good shape. His right arm more muscular than his left, as expected, but a lean, intense musician with a vibrancy that has withstood decades. Many of of "guitar gods" today are just phoning it in; every night with JB was a unique experiment. Will miss them so much.
Oh, man... JB is an example of how much better a great guitarist could get if they don't die young. No doubt about it, he got better and better until the end. No one can do what he did on a guitar. Some can play a convincing copy of Hendrix, but no one can play Jeff Beck.
Jeff Beck… Such an articulate craftsman of raw purity in the moment of creation. Utterly one with his instrument. And his instrument was his soul. To share it with us… amazing! RIP wherever you are, Jeff!
He had just played in Chicago on Oct. 23 and I was blown away. He still was master of playing and "FEEL". He never over played it or underplayed it. It was just the right touch to every song he played. I was just in awe that night like I was when I first saw him in the '70's. I STILL can't believe he died in January. It just knocked me cold. I was STUNNED. It just did not seem real. I wish I could have met him to say THANK YOU for all the great music and the sounds that he extracted from his guitars. He was a major inspiration for me. I could never even get close..to reaching that level of technique and brilliance. He stood out amongst many and will be remembered as one of the greatest ever. He's upstairs now jamming with Les Paul, Cliff Gallup (his heroes) and oh yes.. Jimi Hendrix whom he had the greatest respect and admiration for. RIP Jeff
Not only was Jeff Beck an incredible talent on guitar but, I've often wondered how his innovative style enhanced the playing styles of bassists and drummers. For example, when you see people like Tal Wilkenfeld and Vinnie Colaiuta play with Beck, you can see and hear the music in a whole different direction. I'm so sad and yet happy to have been living in the same time as these wonderful people.
Jeff will always be known as a contributor and a big supporter of women in Rick and roll. Since the seventies he has included in his band playing on stage some of the outstanding female musicians backing him on bass, guitar, and drums. Tai wilkenfeld is an absolute star on bass. Another feather in beck's contribution to music. His unique style is one of a kind. It's a trajedy we lose such great musicians every year that have passed on. I have been attending Beck's performances since 1972. I am at a loss for words....
It all looks so effortless, no theatrics. Unlike some other "guitar heroes" (or vocalists from very famous rock bands whose names I won't mention) who think of themselves as gods, idols. Jeff Beck was simply one of the best, if not THE best ... Been following him since 1977 (Blow by blow), and stocked up with almost everything from "Truth" to "Emotion and Commotion". A legend.
I was not a particular fan of the electric guitar - until I saw his show in 2018 in Switzerland. It was fantastic, and I am so glad that I was there! What a great artist, what a great person! I miss him already!
He played right till the end, just like Albert Collins. I still have albums Blow by Blow, Wired and Orange from my teenage days and I'm 65. You are forever awesome, Jeff and I'll see you on the other side.
Saw Jeff in Tampa several years ago just a thrill. Johnny Depp had the honor of being at his side this last year and I know they were both better off touring together you could see it in their faces. RIP Jeff you will be greatly missed by us 70 year old rockers.
Thanks for this video here, My HERO Is Gone, But his Music will be heard Forever, as long as people can Hear, May the Great One R.I.P. Why did he have go so soon, I last saw him in Albuquerque New Mexico with SRV, 5 months before the Helicopter Crash, that show was the Best, Cousin Figel
This was my brothers favorite guitarist of all times. My brother died in 2010, he worked at Morgan studios for a couple of years back in the 70s and he met Jeff and really liked him. I still miss my brother and I will miss Jeff Beck. Can’t wait to see them both again.
My own brother and me have seen Jeff multiple times over the yrs in large and small venues, and there’s really no other artist like him. By shear will and creativity he’s been an undeniable force in contemporary music through 6 decades. I was actually going to travel to this particular show in Houston that night and take my 35 yr old son (from Houston) to spend an evening with them both. Sadly, it never came to be. So I say, God bless Barry. I’m sure like Jeff, your brother was a sweet guy. I don’t know, and have never heard a negative comment of any kind in 50yrs aimed at Jeff for anything. Period! We all lost a treasure this week. From New Orleans to Jeff’s family, friends and fans everywhere, and to your brother as well Barry, sincerest condolences. My memories sustain me, I hope they do for you as well. Regards
I saw him in October 1980, at the Stanley Theatre in Pittsburgh. Same pale Strat, same sleeveless/jeans, same haircut . . . same swagger. He was 36 years old then, playing the cuts from Blow By Blow and Wired. He crushed us.
As good as he was when I saw him open for John McLaughlin and Shakti in the 70s. He just kept getting better. While people his age were slowing down, or even people half his age. He still was playing full sets live standing up like he was in his 20s. It was like he was ageless. His music is ageless, and timeless. A master guitar player who kept re-inventing the electric guitar. Definitely not a one trick pony. He will be missed as a person, but his legacy as an innovative great guitarist will live on. Peace.
@@johntiger5 That is how it is supposed to be, when you are doing something you love, or want to do. People are not supposed to get old and slow down real fast. They are just lazy, depressed, or not interested in anything if they get slow and old fast.
Those who shared Jeff,s passion for inovative music feel like we have lost a dearly loved member of our family - totally shocked, saddened -like most followers, however, we have much to be thankful for when he entertained us. Will miss you lots !
One of the greatest of all time. A legend, an innovator, an icon, a singular guitarist. The One & Only, Jeff Beck. Rest in peace master. 😢💔 Thanks for putting this up.
Rhonda's Solo On "You Know What You Know" Made My Day ☺️. I Can Tell She Likes Stanley Clarke ❤️. Thanks, Rhonda, because I have been crying a lot about Jeff's passing, and you gave me something to smile for 😌
When I saw the Oct 8,2022 show Port Chester NY- Johnny Depp joined for " Rumble". What a show!!! Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp featured on new IAN HUNTER Def 12:23 iance 2 : Fiction CD April 8 . Another JB is March 15 on MARK KNOPFLERS charity single. His last recording. Last year the ERIC CLAPTON / JEFF BECK Moon River vinyl single was released in England July. Jeff Beck loved making music, appearing on others records, on stage and of course- his many cars. RIP JB!!!! ( Me and the Devil Blues" hasn't been released yet.)I ordered my copy.
Jeff was never run of the mill or ordinary. He made his guitar sing in ways that nobody else can. Of all the well known guitar slingers of the 60’s and 70’s, he was by far the most unique. I saw him live a couple times one of which was a double bill with SRV. Awesome show.
RIP Jeff Beck. Still killing it at live concerts at 78. Bacterial menningitis robbed us of his talent too soon. He had a sense of humor, too. Pause at 8:13 and look at the name on his amps and speaker cabinet: "Becktone" and "arshole" (in the Marshall script!)
It is in the Marshall script because it is/was the original Marshall logo just with bits removed. I've seen this done before. The Becktone looks like a Magnatone with a custom logo fwiw
My cell user screen is a great pix of Jeff ! Instead of those ugly ones they put on cell phones! ❤he was 8 years older then me,.......at my age of 74 I 'm glad to have his music 🎶 in my life.
How could you duplicate an angel singing through a stratocaster, thats how he played. Channeling voices of higher dimensions. A true gift of beauty to this chaotic world. RIP JB.
I’m still remembering playing his albums over and over vibrating the walls in my townhouse all night long through the night while sleeping. It was 1980, and the neighbors NEVER complained! Miss him as so many others.
As usual Jeff pulled a killer band together. The bass player was fantastic. And the drummer was stellar. Loved it when he covered Rumble and Lonnie on the Move. Doing songs by some of the players that influenced him. Love Jeff Beck- man, it floored me when I heard about his passing. I've been a huge fan since the Beck, Bogart, Appice album in 1973. My girlfriend turned me on to that record. A couple of days later I went to the music store and bought the Truth album and Beck-Ola. Spent the next couple of weeks/ forever trying to figure out Jeff Beck tunes on my guitar.
Great to the end An icon and a true legend .. Jeff supported and encouraged young musicians, He didn't just burn out and fade away. He was a consummate pro and did things on the electric guitar that I believe we will never hear again
Playing like he did, performing like he did, for those of us who are born around the same time, we can appreciate the excellence.... Simply exceptional!
Never a musician to "rest on his laurels" - still at his peak just prior to his sad passing. Thanks Jeff. Clapton stuck to the blues, Page was versatile but Jeff could do it all.
This is so good. I saw him last June in Denmark and it was a fantastic concert. There'll never be another guitarist like Jeff Beck. He was one of a kind. RIP Jeff.
The best there was and there best there ever will be, such a brilliant ability in making every note count, mean something and contribute, the nuance, no one will ever be able to play like Jeff, thanks for your contribution to the music world Jeff. R.I.P
He was so great. I kept noticing him watching the drummer. I feel he was blown away by her playing and really enjoyed it...Greta gig. Godspeed Jeff Beckenator
Never followed him previously. But having watched his videos, he is AMAZING. I will now be an avid follower of Jeff Beck, this coming from a diehard Marty Robbins fan.
