Was at all three Bay Area ARMS shows back in 81 (Oakland Arena, Cow Palace) Jeff set stole the show all three nights. Had fifth row dead center at the Cow Palace show! My first show was 1973 Winterland , BBA Black Oak Arkansas , Wet Willy. THE last show iv seen was Nov 9 , 2022 , San Jose Civic Jeff Beck ! Saw him 2 nights back to back Blow by Blow 1975 Winterland , San Jose Civic, Seen him with SRV and Carlos Santana , Jan Hammer (of course) Tal , Rhonda, Jennifer Batten, Loud Hailer tour, ZZ Top , Brian Wilson, Guitar Shop tour, Seem him up close and personal many many times. The GUVNOR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THAT MAN.
still amazing! how i miss Beck. He never wanted to be a Rock Star, he just wanted to play.Jeff always attracted a lot of talent around him 'cause he was a gentleman,a dude, a wit,a hot rodder, a charmer & that awesome guitar sound of his!!
Keytar olayer is Jan Hammer on his synthesizer. Jan spent a year as keyboardist/conductor with Sarah Vaughan. In 1971, he became a member of the original Mahavishnu Orchestra, (then) the most successful group ever to record and tour in the jazz-rock fusion genre, selling over 2 million records worldwide, and performing 530 shows before their December 31, 1973 farewell concert. Jeff always plays with real great musicians & won a grammy with Jan.
Still hard to believe that the yardbirds had that trifecta of guitarists that went through that band and the rest is history!!!! Saw Jeff in NY a these shows and by himself at the NY Palladium in 1980. Fucking awesome
Jeff didn't simply serve the music, he led the music like a pied piper. Any sound, any mood at any time. His musical vocabulary, his pitch-perfect proprietary playing technique, his overall facility on the guitar all served his voice as he phrased what he felt. From sensitive to hammer down, Jeff could whip it up like nobody else.
I know this is an old post but I still think Jeff Beck's sets were the best at every ARMS concert. I am still puzzled that there haven't been commercial releases of at least one show for every venue they played at. At least an audio release.
Would love to be able to do that wee trick he pulls at 3.24, Rory Gallagher does a similar thing on the opening track of Irish Tour 1974 dvd, brilliant wee move :)
Wrong. It was an album called "The Jeff Beck Group" (1972) with an orange on the cover. The bassist was Clive Chaman. Ron Wood was the bassist on the records "Truth" (1968) and "Beck-ola" (1969)
anyone you care to name.drugs hurt him greatly & for a long time caused the perception that he wasn't all that good. but when the guy is on top of his game..which he's been for a very long time now..he's awesome.i'm not all that much on top of what's going on anymore, but they're lotsa good players out there. i'm not ready to argue forever about who's the greatest.all i know is stevie ray & jeff beck appeal to me the most,& if i could play like anyone, those would be the guys.you're different,ok
can any one tell me were to see anymore vids of beck signing why doesnt he sing more does he suck or is he shy about it can't tell here. either way his guitar is always singing
Give Clapton a break, his goal in life isn't to buff your ass. The man has had some pretty tough times and he has contributed more good in this world than most of us have or ever will. If he is a wanker then what do you call 99% of the artist out there? Tell me you wouldn't stop putting up w the corporate bullshit and take the money? I couldn't imagine rock and blues without him or Jeff Beck, they earned the right to do whatever they damn well want. Fame has nothin to do w talent!
Hmm yeah, well they say Beck is the guitar player's player - Clapton's probably easier to listen to for just anybody, non-musicians included. I guess he's like BB King in that way, sortve accessible. For me though its not about who can do more with their fingers, its more who makes the sweeter music. But yeah, love Beck's playing on Amused to Death, the Roger Waters' album.
dude you make countless assumptions. hilarious. I just asked to whom you were referring. Anyway if I felt like being bored enough to fall asleep i might put on clapton. I definitely agree beck is one of the greats though. Anyone who ever had the perception he wasnt all that good never played a guitar or knows nothing about guitarists I saw SRV from the 5th row about a month before he died - ridiculous. If I could play like anyone it's be paco de lucia - but thats a whole 'nother can of worms.
Argonautica8 Interesting you brought SRV into it. Matter-of-factly, I saw Jeff Beck and SRV in the DC area shortly before SRV died. Had seen SRV at least three times previous as well. Great guitarists!
I am more of Clapton fan than Jeff Beck fan but Jeff Beck is a better all round player than Clapton. On the Clapton from Cream can compete with the Jeff Beck that was on show in this clip. That's hard for to admit but it's true. Beck has more in repotoir.
