Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon, has reportedly taken delivery of his new 417-foot sailing yacht Koru after she recently completed her initial sea trials. The superyacht was constructed by Oceanco and has now completed her first maiden voyage, sailing from the Netherlands to Gibraltar after finishing sea trials in the North Sea in February 2023. Currently, the vessel is docked in an anchorage in the bay of Palma on the Balearic island of Mallorca. Koru is a remarkable sailing yacht with a steel hull, aluminum superstructure, and three towering masts measuring over 230 feet, making it the tallest sailing yacht in the world. This surpasses the 357-foot Cox & Stevens sailing vessel, Sea Cloud, built in Germany in 1931, which is still used today as a luxury charter yacht and cruise ship. Koru also eclipsed Black Pearl in overall length, pushing it from third place to fourth place on the list of the world’s largest sailing yachts.
The yacht's name, Koru, which means "new beginnings" in Maori, is fitting as it features a glossy black hull, white superstructure, a capacious pool located on the aft deck, and several plush outdoor lounges for guests to relax in. The yacht is not only one of the most expensive private boats ever built and purchased, but also one of the largest private yachts on the planet and the biggest ever to be built in The Netherlands. The price of the yacht is a staggering $485 million, which is a significant amount even for Mr. Bezos, who is known for his enormous wealth. Footage shot by Guy Fleury.

Not really, with the tall sails fully extended the top speed is just over 55 knots, it’s pretty fast.

It's ambiguous but she isn't speaking about the tallest pyramid. There is a pyramid in Giza by the name of the Pyramid of Neferirkare Kakai, which measures 70 meters or about 230 ft.

Its mostly a dick measuring contest. The cost to maintain that is a headache not just money wise but the amount of parts that often fail. Not to mention it can't reach most destinations due to its size.

A koru is significant to us tangata whenua (maori) here in N.Z & is very humbling to have a billionare name their sail boat after a koru thats for sure. Well done

Your statement is wrong about this being the second biggest sailing yacht. As you say, Sailing Yacht A is the biggest sail-assisted yacht. The Bezos yacht is the biggest pure sailing yacht.

Maybe Jeff will offer the occasional free cruise to a half-dozen or so of these newly impoverished Americans via some kind of lottery. It's the least he could do.

You can be sure Jeff Bezos works very hard. And very smart, too. He is a visionary -- he single-handedly changed retail in America. It is debatable whether Amazon's model is best for the country. But he made his fortune the way P.T. Barnum recommended: "Give the people what they want."

Propaganda? I'm very well off and I drive a Honda Fit. I don't know what kind of car his daily driver is, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's just a nice comfortable/dependable car like a Camry or Accord. Keep in mind that he doesn't have to impress anyone, in fact a car that just blends in would be very desirable for someone in his position.
