In 1983 I was waiting for a flight at Barnstable airport on Cape Cod. The terminal was empty. 5 people walked in and sat down next to me. I looked up...it was the Talking Heads. David Byrne was most gracious. The band had just played the Coliseum. Back then, I always wanted to meet this band and Bryan Ferry. That happened at another airport a few months later. Pulp Fiction blew my mind when I saw it at 15. I loved all sorts of movies but that was I think the first where I went, 'Holy shit. Movies can do anything. There is no formula.' Punk Rock and Rap music had the same effect on me. The world gets a little bit bigger when you have those moments.

I saw that same freshness in Bridges' early film roles, particularly the 1974 film, "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot." The scenes where he's interacting with George Kennedy are so jarring in their disparate reactions, just wonderful. Bridges youthful exuberance is also so captivating and sincere, it makes the sad turn at the end of the film all the more poignant. That movie affected me in much the same an earlier film, Bridges was also in, "The Last Picture Show" did; stunning. The notion of creating something so different or new, as The Talking Heads imaginative sound burst onto the scene or Tarantino did with "Pulp Fiction" meld well with Bridges own work, i.e., "The Big Lebowski." He's such a joy to watch on the screen...he seems to be such a grounded, decent fellow in real life as well...

It’s a great comparison, and exactly how I felt. I was in the Beatles -Stones - Dylan camp in my buddy left Fear Of Music at my house when I was a youngster. I played it over and over. i went on to see them at least eight times mostly in great seats. Fast forward 10 years Later, I see Pulp fiction and being a minor film student turned to my future wife and commented that besides the entertainment value the time structure is so brilliant and ballsy. I’m not sure we’ve had an artistic musical endeavor or film endeavor with that impact in the last 10 years, but I’m hopeful to be proved wrong.

@annalisavajda252
@annalisavajda252 Год назад
Well the lead singer of The Talking Heads has Aspergers maybe Quinton is on the spectrum too but the whole non linear storytelling is a concept similar to "stop making sense" the mind has to jump back and forth to understand the story. That film had a good soundtrack too which also affects an audience more than just action and dialogue. Inglorious Bastards for instance really only has that one Bowie song which makes the revenge of the big face scene the most impactful. Now Pulp Fiction is pop culture for my generation of teens nostalgic really in a way someone that views it for the first time now in 2023 won't know it didn't play the soundtrack at their house parties either probably didn't see NBK in 94 ish either that was a cultural phenomenon too soundtrack arranged by Trent Reznor Story by Tarantino Directed by Oliver Stone cult classic for sure now.

So did Jim Jarmusch. Everybody: Look at Tarantino! He invented great dialogs/monologs in cinema! Look at "Reservoir Dogs" (1992)! Look at "Pulp Fiction" (1994)! Jim Jarmusch: Brought great dialogs/monologs to cinema in "Down by Law" (1986) & "Night on Earth" (1991) and continues quietly to make great, quirky, experimental movies with their own weird sense of humor inside a somewhat fucked up world.
