Continuing in the vein of his 2011 work of informed speculation, Then Everything Changed, Greenfield, longtime TV and print journalist, has studied the facts about JFK and here offers the history of the thirty-fifth president's two terms. This detailed and realistic alternate history looks at Kennedy's private life as well as his foreign policy, re-election campaign, and many other matters people have wondered about since 1963.

Jeff Greenfield truly is a brilliant, creative, knowledgeable political historian. An opinion from Mr. Greenfield needs to be taken seriously because he has never been that far off in his forecasts and opinions. He uses facts and evidence to build his case and draw his conclusions. IMHO he is a somewhat underrated journalist and is probably one of the better authors of our time.

No way J.F.K puts ground troops in Vietnam approximately 3 weeks before Kennedy is shot he does an interview with Walter Cronkite at Hyannis Port where JFK goes on to say that he wants to help the Vietnamese people but it's their War we can help them but I think clearly he wasn't going to have our boys fight the war for them we would have armed them advise them but he said and I'm quoting it's there a war the winner lose we're just here to help look it up

Danny Burch: JFK put 16,000 military in Vietnam (many in combat roles) over his 1,000 days in office - not just the previous 3 weeks. Despite his words, he (JFK) was stuck. He was a tough talker when it came to communism (as were all politicians) and he and his administration saw Vietnam in cold war terms. War was imminent.

At his press conference on Nov. 14th he reiterated he wanted a thousand or so advisors out of Nam by the end of the year.
@timcountis9368
@timcountis9368 4 года назад
US military 'advisers' were in Nam long before JFK was elected. The Pentagon wanted in, the CIA wanted in, and the military/industrial complex wanted in. But Kennedy wanted out. In 1961 the CIA under Alan Dulles planned to invade Cuba and overthrow Castro. Kennedy backed out at the last minute, fired Dulles and swore to tear down the CIA. Meanwhile he began withdrawing troops from Vietnam. Two years later Kennedy was assassinated. Dulles sat on the Warren Commission, which claimed there was no conspiracy to kill Kennedy. The case was reopened by Congress in 1976, which determined that JFK was indeed the victim of a conspiracy.

Off this hypothetical, but I'd like the alternate history where Al Gore wins instead of George W. Bush. Gore wouldn't have started the war in Iraq and would have started to address climate change twenty years ago. SUCH A BIG LOSS.

That's right. Bush wanted the poppy feels protected-C$A.. That was their money maker. It's been the same ever since only now they're stealing our children. I heard children were brought to the triage set up in Central Park, New York. That have never seen the surface. They said nurses Praying and asking for our prayers for these poor precious children. And some were adults too. I guess they grew up in the dam tunnels. We have been so naive. Listening to what we were fed And most times never question. I'm awake. And I'm pissed off. What are we leaving the Next Generation? People need to wake up.
@jkrasney1
@jkrasney1 11 месяцев назад
An excellent point. Three things: A President Gore would have been better prepared for September 11th; thus, the likelihood of invading Iraq diminishes greatly; as President, Gore would have invested time, energy, research and consistent effort to battle climate change. Also, the likelihood of surpluses, rather than increasing deficits. If only, Ralph Nader were not on the ballot.

I had the honor of meeting Mr. Greenfield many years and go. I asked him about something former news producer for NBC and former President of CBS News, Fred Friendly said about how out of touch the American news media had become. On Vietnam, little would have changed. JFK suddenly got us much more deeply involved on Nov. 1, 1963 with his coup that removed Diem, and under JFK the U.S. suffered its first troop deaths. The Truman Doctrine, the oil and weapons corporations, and right wing pressure in Congress got us into Vietnam, regardless of who was commander-in-chief. On civil rights, without the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act, we would have had a civil war. Who could dissuade those believing in Malcolm X and Stokley Carmichael, with no right to vote in the south and with "whites only" still in effect nationwide?

The moment this guy said Lee Harvey Oswald di it, I realize he was an opportunist, not an unbiased historian and proper judge of alternate history. The main one is his illicit Affairs and his opposition would have used all of its pull to destroy him if they couldn't assassinate him. But I believe Vietnam would not have happened like that planned out American Soldier meat grinder the establishment Republicans and racist Democrats always wanted. And I also think him diverting to Silver for fives, twos and 20s, and later- $100's, would have paved the way for a more solid domestic economy.. for good civil rights show. But how many times could he have avoided assassination or destruction by Scandal? No, the Deep state was way too entrenched to make our past any less bloody or divisive, and I believe the Deep state would have even found a way to explode a nuke in North Vietnam or even South Vietnam, while still keeping North Korea as the same Cuba's puppet hostage, and it would have been perfect for the nuke to be blamed on North Korea.

@@jamesanthony5681 Real researchers solved this case decades ago, you say it would "make their career", you should have said BREAK their career because it would be immediately over if they told the obvious truth that JFK was killed by the joint chiefs/CIA & covered up for 57 years by the MSM, even the house select committee said it was a conspiracy in the late 70's, there's massive evidence of 2 Oswald's, (In WC testimony even his half brother John Pic refused to identify 3 pictures as his brother), the patsy Oswald was in New Orleans in August 1963 & standing right behind him is Bill Shelley -his boss 2 months later at the TSBD. There were 3 rifles found at the depository, a mauser, enfield & carcano, what happened to the first 2 rifles?. The money order that patsy Oswald supposedly used to buy the carcano wasn't even cashed - not 1 bank stamp on it, as far as Tippit killing the patsy Oswald was already in the Texas theater when the cop was shot. Why was JFK killed? - because he was getting out of Vietnam, normalizing relations with Russia & Cuba & the far right wing war mongers in the military industrial complex could not stand for it.
@jamesanthony5681
@jamesanthony5681 3 года назад
@@tram84mvp Ah, the House Select Committee (HSCA) in the mid-latter 1970's. And what did they conclude? They essentially corroborated all the major findings in the Warren Report, however, they came up with 2 things: 1. A dictabelt recording of an alleged 4th shot later discredited; and 2 A puff of smoke near the knoll. A puff of smoke?? Really? WOW! For $5+ million of taxpayer's money, that's what we got, and these guys were under intense pressure and desperate to find something - anything - in regards to a conspiracy. They likely questioned 200+ people in Dealey and perhaps 2, 3 mentioned the smoke. The consensus opinion was nobody saw anything including the 3 cops and 12 rail employees on top of the Stemmons bridge. Oswald was identified in the building, and only 1 gun was reported present. Prints were found. He was clearly eye-witnessed as the killer of J.D. Tippit. What conspiracy theorists will pull out of the air to fit their narrative astonishes me. Now you're getting into the speculation as to Vietnam and why he was killed. The 1st major escalation into Vietnam (16,000 military) began under JFK, and he was NOT about to pull them out regardless of how many executive orders he signed. JFK mishandled Vietnam, and with the assassination of Diem in early Nov/63, America was stuck, and Kennedy was not about to pull America out. Now that's my speculation, and McNamara essentially said the same thing about JFK, who as President was as hawkish as Richard Nixon, and he (JFK) would have been harshly criticized by the Amercan right for letting Vietnam fall to the communist North had he pulled out. He was not about to let that happen, and he remembers how Truman was excoriated for letting (as if he could stop it) China fall to the Communists in 1949.
