I was lucky to have met him a few times in Toronto. The first time that we met was on Queen street at Chicago Dinner. He went up to jam with Alix Anthony and needed a guitar. That’s where I came in the picture. Me and bud ware sitting right to the great oh mighty and when he asked for a guitar , I right away offered my start, which I have till this day. He had gone to play 3 songs and after that he signed my puck guard and gave me a some tips on adjusting the pickup hight. I’ll never forget that day and his amazing talent.

@@Devon_Rismay another great Canadian guitarist (who also played a live due acoustic with Jeff) Colin James - who plays jazz, blues, rock, big band and so much more - I saw Colin and concert several times and he blew everyone away. It's too bad tho Jeff and he didn't get to play a lot together tho both played with SRV

A friend of mine saw him live in a club in San Diego back in the 90's. He came in early. And there was Jeff getting ready for the show. He told my friend, "Hey. Thanks for coming out to see us. We really appreciate it." Such a down to earth dude! Of course he put on a Hell of a show that night. What a Legend! One of the best ever!

That's Pat Rush on second guitar. Worth mentioning for guitar aficionados. He's awesome, and a tasteful player. A musicians musican. Worked with, and is the only guy to ever play a slide solo on a Johnny Winter album (at the time-late '80's). Was in a couple of Toronto bands for a while. I've seen Pat really cook at the jams. Next level up. That's why Jeff hired him for European tours. Watch him burn on some of the other tracks from this concert.

Someone mentioned how they went to a club in Canada's in the 80's and they were disappointed there would be a live act when they just wanted to dance to a deejay...though BB King and Stevie Ray Vaughn gave him kudos...the guys and friends sat, watched as a blind guy was led out...when the music started their jaws dropped. NO ONE DANCED THAT NIGHT. He said he'd never forget it. I can only imagine what an amazing experience a live performance would be.

Just stumbled on the video. I was friends with Jeff and shared the stage many times with him in my 20's. It was wild because I started playing guitar when I was 9 and I heard his See The Light Album, flash forward 10 years and I became friends with him and played beside him. He never stopped amazing me. Nobody can play like him, or ever will. He was also the most encouraging to musicians, helpful and the nicest man. I miss him dearly and was honored to be his friend. I love watching other guitarists in amazement. Try being on stage and trying to call and answer solos with him, made me want to quit but he loved challenging people.

Oh and at Jeff's funeral service it was like lining up the blues hall of fame why was he taken from us so soon???? The Man, The Myth The Legend that still is Jeff Healey. You mention how quick jeff was playing. Well here's a little known fact for you The average bpm for a quitar player is 48bpm where jeff played at 62bpm. It kinda makes sense now doesn't it?.

You know talent my friend. I am also from Canada and met Jeff on a flight from Vanvouver in 1995. He was the sweetest most humble person l have ever met. He appreciated that l even recognized him. Amazing. He was with the Bass player. He left us far to soon. Since your a guitarist like myself l want to turn you on to another band from Canada. These are old friends of mine. I grew up with Jim Creiton (Bass/keyboards) and his little brother lan Creiton (guitar) amazing musicians. I have jammed with Ian and was in a band with Jim in the 70's There name is SAGA and a great song is "on the Loose" live in Germany. As a guitarist you simply have to hear these guys. You won't be disappointed. I like your site. Keep rocking brother ✌

SAGA was huge in Germany. I freaked the first time I saw the size of the crowds at those stadiums from the live videos. It was surreal. Back here in Canada they remained kind of a niche taste. I still play them to remember the drive they put into their compositions.

These are the players to help you, make you strive for what's missing. Yeah he can play fast, but really his unique part that can't be replicated as easy as speed: his ability to play in between the notes and sound like it's singing, he goes beyond notes and blues scales....make it sing. Speed will come naturally, but there are thousands of blues players that can't go beyond the pentatonic scales.

ONE OF THE GREATEST GUITAR PLAYERS EVER. SO TALENTED. R I P JEFF.
@Carrie-so3ro
@Carrie-so3ro 6 месяцев назад
Jeff Healey - & I WILL say it , since others SHOULD be saying it & haven't. Jeff Healey is THE GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!! Not only is he PHENOMENAL as a guitar player, he is PHENOMENAL - while playing BLIND. EVEN MORE - Jeff Healey LEARNED to play - while ALREADY BLIND! (Let's NOT forget to add that he ALSO performed many times WHILE STRUGGLING THROUGH CANCER. It didn't just take his eyesight as a baby, it was a struggle his ENTIRE short life - until it DID take his life. I understand that cancer is a very painful thing to live with.) There is NO ONE BETTER at guitar - who HAVE their sight & then NEVER had the ADDED DIFFICULTY of learning to play WITHOUT EVER having seen the strings he plays IN HIS LIFE! I stand by what I say - Jeff Healey is THE GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER OF ALL TIME. It is GOOD that you compare your playing to Jeff Healey's as trying to reach his level (& use his example) it is unlikely that you or just about anyone will ever accomplish, BUT it helps to push you to a level of playing that you would probably never achieve if you weren't trying to match him. (Just DON'T get upset at yourself when you CAN'T match him. He IS a musical (LITERAL) genius! (Don't be jealous of his talent either though. I think that such great gifts are handed out to people as a bit of compensation for all the rest that life is going to be or has been for any person with any supreme talent - or good fortune for that matter.)

Blind at age 1, eyes removed. Began playing guitar at age 3, with the guitar on his lap like that. It was in his bones. Literally. Meaning -- he literally went though the entire growth of his body, with that guitar on his lap. It was so deep in him, it shaped his bones.

I see a lot of comments saying Jeff was underrated. Really ? By who ? Not by his millions of fans or every other guitarist in the world. Just because you've never heard him before for whatever reason like maybe you've been living under a rock doesn't mean he was underrated. It just means you're late to the party
@hibhibb5429
@hibhibb5429 2 года назад
I think what people mean when they say "underrated" is the fact that record labels told Jeff that he would not amount to anything and that he would never make it to the big leagues (mainstream so to speak). They basically shrugged him off because he was blind. They are idiots and do not know what the hell they were talking about. It feels like Jeff got bypassed on a lot of accolades that he deserved. He should be inducted into our Hall of Fame and he should have a Star on the Walk of Fame in the U.S. not just Canada. And, it's my understanding that his wife had to fight like hell to get him inducted in Canada. I mean, What the hell?!! That should have been a no brainer for Canada. I agree with you when you say it just means people are late to the party. RIP Jeff. You are sorely missed!

Search for a guy named Tommy Katona and Texas Flood, his band. He is from Hungary originally but has been in Texas for a long time playing SRV blues mostly. He is fantastic and I am amazed he has not "made it" somewhere. As a musician you will be impressed. He matches SRV lick for lick, truly gifted.
