I remember Jeff saying something about how he was not comfortable playing left foot hi hat stuff and he still needed to get that together - and that was when he was already a big-name player. Don't know how true that really was. Interesting that he's doing a bit of that here...

Yeah, I remember that too. It's so relateble as well, because you can get REALLY good and professional as a drummer or indeed as an instrumentalist in general, but there is sometimes som elementary stuff that you just leave behind as you develop faster and faster and never really get down until you decide to tackle it maybe 15-20 years later as a seasoned pro, so I can understand what he means. No one is perfect, and that's so cool. Those who look like they are are just lucky we haven't found them out yet. With a possible exception for Vinnie, that is.

I tell you guys, I think I read Vinnie Coluaita say something similar about his left hand - that he was still "getting it together" if you can believe that. Talk about humble. I should just quit then and focus on basoon or glockenspeil lol.

What year was that and what did Jeff work on ? its incredible to see that he gets the kick part down and plays it slow in order to get it right . How Humbling that is if thats what he was doing , God bless him and his family R.I.P Jeff

This looks like its from the Norwegian Wood sessions in 89, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lV8y7ozqYAg.html. Using his trusted Gretsch kit.

I'm quite surprised how low he was sitting... His knees are almost higher than his hips... But a very nice video.

He was only 5'8-5'9, so his build might have something to do with it

Would his height have something to do with it? He was 5'7 1/2

I’d say that was how they played these times... Look at all the greats in the 80s’... they were also sitting very low. But today they sit much higher because ergonomics have changed and sitting higher seems to be better for your back and also easier to play fast weith your feet... I believe today Jeff would sit higher too.

@@felixweber6593 The best is to have your legs at a 90° angle and do not slouch. Today, many drummers who sit high, slouch over to have better rimshots.

@@andy80sdrums you can fine tune the height of your snare accordingly... I noticed recently that my right foot is a bit faster if I sit just a bit higher... But anyway... what is the best is what works for you....
