This album and live shows off it are massive throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand and especially the UK. I've always been surprised why its not big in America considering Jeff Wayne the composer is American and the H G Wells book has had so many films and radio versions off which most have been American and have been massively successful in America and the live show with its special effects is amazing.

The incomparable Richard Burton narrating with rock n roll, orchestration, disco, funk and backed by an iconic fictional story is just iconic. I began listening to this in the Navy 40 years ago. It is too bad that death...suicide is also a part of this fictional story.

I`m glad you`re reacting to this album, Its been a constant listen through out my adult life. It needs a new generation to discover it now. A masterpiece. In the UK at the moment the BBC are televising an adaption of the book that closely follows the original book unlike the film of a few years back. It doesn`t contain any of the music though but it is good.

When I see you so enjoying fine music I have long loved it reminds me that no matter obvious differences of ethnicity, creed, or nationality that divide people, music has the power to make us see how much alike at heart we really are. Cheers me up. Thanks!

The narrator is the famous actor Sir Richard Burton... When this first came out it surprised everyone that a classic Shakespearean type actor would narrate a rock album.... Genius move on their part... This was redone fairly recently (for touring purposes) and they use Liam Neeson's voice as the Narrator...

The version I saw in 2007? In Australia they had a special hologram of Burton doing the narration. Best thing I've ever seen. That bloody great tripod over the stage. Incredible. I bought this when it first came out. Still a masterpiece today.

I believe that the American premier of this album was on Halloween. They played it on a local radio station when I was at a Halloween party. By the second side the entire party was sitting around the speakers listening to it.

Grew up with this album. Helped me get through my high school exams (college in NZ), listened to it so many times with all of my 4 kids as they grew up and now still still listen to it on vinyl regularly at 52...and I’ll keep listening to it as long as I have ears that work.

Thanks again Tre, for going where no one else is willing to tread. This was a Masterpiece upon its release, and still is, but sorely lacking in knowledge. You are THE MAN, Period.

Sci-fi sometimes works remarkably well just from reading it from books, and occasionally it works a treat as a radio play (Hitchhikers' Guide To The Galaxy) or as music opera ..... Thanks for your reaction, Tre

I was working my first job back in 78 when it was released. Tons of folk recommended it. It was my supervisor who said it was fantastic and lent it to me. And the second I out it on zi was blown away. I went and bought it the next day

I could listen to Richard Burton's mellifluous tones for hours, and have done so. For this alone, this version beats both films - plus it's set in the right country and the right time-period! I've got a recording somewhere of the background to this version of WotW; they promised to keep as close to the book as possible, and did; some of the lines are verbatim from the book - and the book is worth a read or two - every now and then I re-read it, and am always surprised by the small details that I'd "forgotten" while listening to this.

Congratulations on finding the good stuff again. Phil Lynott, black Irish front man for Thin Lizzy (RIP), did the guitar work.

At least when folks listen to this, they don't become hysterical, confusing it for the real thing ;-) (as actually happened when Orson Wells aired his now infamous "War Of The Worlds" on the 1938 radio broadcast).

The music makes you want to kiss your wife and kids goodbye, strap on your space helmet walk up to the launchpad and be blasted screaming through the galaxy on a rocket.

Perhaps Tre, you could watch the Original War of The Worlds movie from 1953, but Please not the Terrible Tom Cruise remake.

Richard Burton was considered the greatest actor of his era. Hollywood kind of ruined him, though. He married and divorced (twice!) Elizabeth Taylor, considered the greatest beauty in the world and also an award-winning actress. The song "Forever Autumn" has a 45-RPM single version without Burton's voiceover, and that pure version was a radio hit when I was a teenager -- at least in Canada it was. The album overall is too Disco for me (repeat after me: "Disco" ... "Sucks"....) But worse still is the repetitiousness of the whole thing. It grew too dull for me after a while.
