One of my favourite albums of all time. First had it as a kid on LP with all the glorious art work inside. Manages to be beautiful and super creepy at the same time. The newer version with Liam Neeson narrating is fine but you can never improve upon Richard Burton. Really need to get to one of these live shows.

Sung by the brilliant Justin Hayward, OBE of Moody Blues fame. My favorite singer/songwriter/guitarist. He would have been 60-61 years old when this was performed live in 2006 but still sounded terrific. He sang the two biggest hits from the album - The Eve of the War and Forever Autumn, which says a lot because of the amount of talent assembled on that double album. I traveled from the USA to watch this tour live in England and Scotland. Great experience. Cheers.

@@allenrogers9319 Errrrmmmm, ......... no! The vocals on 'The Eve of the War' are by Justin Hayward, along with 'Forever Autumn', in his character as the sung thoughts of the journalist (the spoken words of which are originally Richard Burton, as in this performance, and later by Liam Neeson). David Essex did 'Brave New World' as the artilleryman, though only on the original recording but never live as the artilleryman was described as young in the novel that this album and performance is based on and by the time that it finally made the stage (28 years after the album release), David was sadly no longer young. The wonderful Alexis James, whose vocal tone and persona is very much like David Essex, played the role in the first 2006 tour and the next, and a succession of other musical theatre and recording artists have done so since. David then took on the role of the voice of humanity singing 'Thunderchild' in the show's short-lived run in the West End but has never performed in any of its many worldwide tours over the past seventeen years.

@@deanrichardson4712 'Thunderchild' on the original album and on this and the next few tours was performed as "the voice of humanity", by Chris Thompson from Manfred Mann's Earth Band. David Essex, the original young artilleryman never performed on any of the tours due to it being an age-defined character but later performed as "the voice of humanity" in the show's brief stay in the West End.

Dei here... OK, I've had a bit of a laugh to myself over this one. My sole aim from these WotW requests was to, hopefully, introduce Jon, Dolly, and maybe others out there to the amazing musical masterpiece that was Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. For those of us that experienced it in "real time"... I only had this on cassette. Those of you who had the vinyl... I hate you! (lol). I did later buy the double CD, so I did get to enjoy it almost as much as you... Let's give Jon and Dolly some slack. I do tend to have a rather odd sense of humour. I wanted to see Jon and Dolly's reaction without the historical context that a lot of the rest of the viewers had. I must admit, being thrown in cold, I'm very happy with this reaction, and to the reaction to the other songs. Sure, they didn't get everything right. Forever Autumn isn't about death. Carrie got away... She was safe, but she was gone. This was kind of my fault as I only requested parts of the musical, not all of it. It was something different. I hope you enjoyed it... ...and I've seen some complain that this isn't the original musical track. Yes, the original in better, but these tracks also provide visuals that don't exist with the originals (the one exception is "Forever Autumn"). Just consider these requests as a sampler. If you find these versions interesting, then go seek out the originals!

The narrator was the magnificent Richard Burton, who died many years ago, so this is a CGI of him. That’s why he looks scary. This is one of my top albums ever. I had the original vinyl for many years, sadly lost during a divorce and subsequent house moves. The album is a work of art.

The narrator is Welsh - baritone - voice actor: Richard Burton CBE. During the early recordings of the musical, it was just his voice, but sadly he passed away before the musical by American-British Composer and Conductor: Jeff Wayne was brought to RL. What we are seeing, is actually a Richard Burton Look-alike actor: Aaron Robson. During editing, Aaron’s face was modified to look more like Richard’s face.

The guy narrator is Richard Burton, though the face they are animating is Orson Welles (no relation to HG!). This was a fantastic album. Great music, and singers like Justine Hayward, David Essex, Phil Lynott, Julie Covington. This is a live version and Richard Burton and Phil Lynott have passed, so I guess they will be replaced. I have a video of a later production, and the Narrator is played by Liam Neilson via a hologram. Very cool.

Fun fact: John Lodge, bass guitarist and second most often lead singer of the Moody Blues that Justin Hayward was lead singer of, was supposed to be playing bass on this album but contractual conflicts and recording timetables meant that he couldn't, and Gordy Marshall (the drummer on this performance and throughout the tours of this album) was accompanying drummer and percussionist to Graeme Edge on the Moody Blues' tours from the early 2000s until the remaining members disbanded following Graeme's death in 2021.

In the making of this, Richard Burton had passed away by the time this production had started. They actually suspended a 'base' of the shape his head, and digitally filmed a look alike to narrate using his mouth, whilst superimposing Richard Burtons face on the base. This is why it looks stiff and only the mouth moves. A precursor of AI if you will. Very clever how they did it

The reason this was so scary at the time, wasn't just because of the story (and there wasn't the music you're listening to in this musical aired with it). At the time this aired on the radio, there wasn't fiction being read out or acted over the airwaves. It was all serious stuff like news reports. And the way they chose to air it, WAS in the style of episodic breaking news reports, as if reporters on the ground were actually witnessing the events happen in front of them. So for people who didn't realise - and had no way of finding out - that it was actually a fictional story based on a book, it was as convincing as the real news reports being aired around the same time as the program went out. Now I hasten to add that the amount of people tricked into believing it, and some reacting badly to it, was a much smaller number than generally gets banded about. The vast majority of listeners very quickly figured out it wasn't a real news broadcast and was, in fact, a fictional and highly entertaining story being aired. But initially for the first episode or two it DID cause quit a stir!

My all-time favourite album ever! Even level with those from Queen! My dad introduced me to the Jeff Wayne musical version of War of the Worlds and I've been obsessed ever since!! I have this on both CD and Vinyl and I still to this day play the absolute _heck_ out of both of them!! I'm actually kind of surprised I haven't worn out and scratched them to oblivion yet LOL 😁Honestly the movies just never did the story justice - especially the most recent ones. Sure they _looked_ great, but the story just wasn't as involved, didn't have the emotion in it and I found myself not really caring for _any_ of the depicted characters. Which surprised me since I usually enjoy any character that Tom Cruise plays as. One part I adore about the live theatre versions is the fact they have a GIGANTIC Martian walker that looms over the audience, makes the alien sounds "UULAAA!" and fires lasers as it's "heat ray". Friggen EPIC!!!
