After a night of heavy rain and Orange Sunshine, Sunday morning I found myself sitting in a car with a Canadian Girl I met at Woodstock. Then on that “new day” the sky brightened and the Rocking music of Jefferson Airplane filled the air. We couldn’t see them, but their music rolled across the Woodstock hills. I’m an old man now, but I remember Jefferson Airplane playing with so much energy on that Sunday Morning, a long time ago.
My mom and her friend went to Woodstock. I was already on the way but she didn't know it yet, so I always say I was at Woodstock...kind of. Oh, and speaking of your good story, mom was not Canadian, LOL.
This was Sunday morning. We woke up and to this day I can still see Gracie Slick silhouetted against a rising sun. And I can still hear, in my head, her say "Good morning people." It was an amazing concert, but that's all it was for most of us. Hours later, as my friend and I were leaving, card board boxes were being tossed from the stage-inside were Woodstock Concert programs. People were just stepping over them and many of programs settled into the mud and wet earth. I picked up two fairly clean ones and handed one to my friend and said: "Here, take this, I have ah feeling that they may be worth something one day." He shrugged, and took one. Who knew? Yes. I still have one of those programs. And my friend? Yes. He too has his. In fact, on the Woodstock Two album, if you open it up, on the left hand side, the kid on the fence, with the hat on, reaching for the bottle of champagne is that friend. His first name is Paul. What a time it was.
It will be, but in another medium, place, and time. Classical music in Germeny, painting in Renaissance Italy,, Movies in 1950s LS, and Rock & roll in the US id the late 60s. Things like this happens when they all deed each other's accomplishments. I am glad I was there for thr latter. A great time to live through. Keep on truckin'
💕 pour M. Hello Mancini, bien que je n'ai pas eu la traduction exacte mais, je suppose que c'est un "fan" et un enthousiaste de cette époque " mythique et inoubliable " à la fois... ... Du moins, c'est mon humble avis... ... Bien amicalement.
I was 11..then, however, grew up with two older sisters, catching the tail end. I deeply feel sorry for the generation growing now.., big brother is watching..
Grace freakin rules. I saw this happen! Now i am just a burned out hippie but, i am still alive, and love this image and music (at age 72 now). What a trip WS was. Once in a lifetime event. The pond was even nice, lol. Rock on, people.
My daughter is a singer songwriter, she has a powerful voice too. When she was young, people would say "who taught Natalie to sing ?" And I would always say...Grace Slick. As she would spend hours singing along to these amazing songs.
@@celebrant9 Grande admiration ❤pour vos commentaires ! Immense respect pour tous ceux qui apprécient la vrai musique et tous ces véritables grands artistes ! ... 🎉❤🎉
What iconic lyrics. It is truly a period piece for the the coming of age in the 1960's and 70's. It captures both the Alice in Wonderland type stories we were read as children and the disfunction we found as we entered adulthood when our eyes where opened to social/political hypocrisy. The simplicity of the lyrics and the musical composition artistically reflect so elegantly, non-judgmentally, a frame of mind out of the morass: fed your head.
Still living and rocking at age 75 now. Will never forget watching Grace do this. It is stuck in my mind as is the whole Woodstock experience. It was a joy to have been there at age 23 (am 75 now). Maybe the most dynamic experience of my life.
The power in her voice is just unreal. It leaves you thinking that mountains would move if she ever unleashed her full power. But she kept it restrained to preserve all of us.
Do keep spreading the word of this golden age of rock n roll. If you youngsters, who embraced what we grew up and lived with, pass it on. You have the tech we never did. We will not be around much longer. When we go, it goes, unless you keep it alive.
Saw The Jefferson Airplane in Hawaii at the Honolulu International Center during the early 1970's where they performed an excellent concert. Grace announced at the concert that they would perform a free concert at the Waikiki Shell the next day. I remember it well and it was just as good as the paid concert where they performed the nite before. Those were the days. I appreciate their kindness to this very day.
Sometimes in a concert setting these well-known songs don't come off so good. However, this performance of "White Rabbit" is better than the original recording. The band is tight and Grace's sings so powerfully yet with just the right nuance. Feed your head indeed.
Everytime I listen to Grace slick peform these songs at woodstock it sends a shiver up my spine. Even through the crap laptop speakers. Her vocals are immense.
This video of Jefferson Airplane at Woodstock 1969, probably has the best audio quality, especially for White Rabbit. If you want to hear the power of Grace Slick's voice that is not studio enhanced then this is the video to watch and listen. When you watch the live music videos from the 60s and you look at the fans in the audiance, Keep in mind that these fans are the seniors you see today.
Woodstock had the best music as well as all 60's 70's music! The music actually had meanings! Take me back to the day! Flower power! Jefferson Airplane will NEVER be forgotten!
@@marcschneider4845well those enemies of US capitalism probably have Grace Slick bars and clubs. Will this ever purge the US idea that trade is bad, unless Stars and Stripes are attached.
Grace slick kills it on white rabbit gives me tingle it's almost like shes singing without any spaces between words brilliant such a legend with a powerful voice I was born in 1982 but grew up with this excellent stuff ❤❤❤
A good band made much, much more by a great frontwoman. 50 years on it still stands as a high point in rock music. Many would just not have been up to holding that together. Fabulous, Grace!
This is it folks! The best of the Sixties. The Airplane lived and played for the people. They always had a message in their music. All master musicians. Thank You! Airplane.
At a Jefferson Airplane concert at the Inglewood Forum back about 1969 I ended up crowded up next to the stage right in front Grace -- I was tripping on LSD. When Grace was singing "Don't you need somebody to love?" she'd bend over the front of the stage and point her finger practically right into my face. Wow. I was definitely in love with her.
@@sandrarangel6749 Yeah. And the next day Jefferson Airplane and the Moody Blues played for free at Elysian Park. Listening to live Moody Blues in a park while still tripping on LSD was amazing.

The best of my teenage years. They played and sang their own hearts out. Their gift to us listeners was to sing the most alive ways to teach us to grow to be thinkers, doers, lovers and teachers. To then be able to pass on the knowledge, lovingly and intelligently so all or our offspring so they might easily
For a generation who grew up watching Lassie, Leave If To Beaver, and My Three Sons, "White Rabbit" was one of three songs that aided the transition from a culture of wholesome naivety to "Sex, Drugs and Rock n' Roll" whether we wanted to or not. The other two songs are Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water" and Steve Miller Band's "The Joker."
It is 17 July 2022 as I type this I am 73 y/o WM. When I hear this, my memory returns to January 1968 and I getting off the plane, the 98 degree heat and humidity, the stench just about knocks me over. A year later, I leave, now 20 years old, having seen death, mayhem, mutilation, heroics, stupidity. But since then, my most recalled memory is hearing "White Rabbit" on AFRTS/AFN. I do not care to find out why this tune stands out of all what I saw and heard over there. Yes, look it up, AFRTS/AFN, Tet Offensive and a little more. I returned mostly unscathed, no alcohol, drugs, cigarettes or strange diseases. Had a bout of flashbacks in 2007 or so but that lasted only a few months.
@@tammyturtle4434 Thank you Tammyturtle. I am not a religious person but a lapsed Catholic. Specifically, a pre-Vatican II lapsed Catholic. That year in 1968 convinced me that God exists but in what "form" I can not say": Catholic, Hindu, Dream Time etc.
there are no words... Thank You is so inadequate. I went to the dedication of the wall in D.C., silent parade state by state alphabetically with a nonstop respectful clapping. Thankfully we learned to respect our veterans after nam, so sorry and sadly at your expense. You ARE a hero.
One of the best songs ever!Definitely in the top 10.Make no mistake about it! I love the lyrics that Grace Slick wrote. What a doll to!!😚🥰😛Superb musicians to!!!!
Wow. I always knew Grace Slick had a great voice, but I never saw this performance from Woodstock. There were dimensions to her skill I never saw or heard. Amazing.
Zmov1, thank you for your great response. We are but a few left. I have been in love with Grace for so long, since before Woodstock ! When she talks ,I come alive. I am 67yr old and the memory is engraved in my mind. I relive that period through some good herbs and live videos such as this , where ever I can find it. This is the only form of computer I enjoy ,plus all forms that communicats back to our period of true freedom. This planet and these plastic people will never experience or understand , Cruise on !
My Generation! The music and the ideals of love, peace, and happiness. What a time to be alive and hear and see Joe, Janis, Jimi, Alvin, Grace, and more perform the music that really mattered. Alas, nothing remains the same and our time in the sun is a warm remembrance filled with nostalgic interludes. In these dark times, we seek a place we can go to and dream. Such places are watching performances such as these. Powerful, spiritual, explosive, all the adjectives one can think of and more. Our troubles are forgotten at least for a little while as we join in sweet harmony the call for joy. Art is resistance, the revolution continues.
One of my most favourite songs of all time - love it and still listen to it I was 12 in 1967 but was caught up in the music and ambiance of that special time !!!
Jorma & jack are doing their final Electric Hot Tuna Tour this year, they have been friends & playing together over 60 years, thank you for all the great memories you have given to us. I hope you continue & enjoy your lives for many more great years.
What I don't think a lot of people get when they say there is good music today is that even though these were pop songs- it's not so much the music, it's the movement that's important and special. It's the culture. THAT'S what is missing.
Woodstock was the greatest rock festival. Peace, love and harmony. There will never be anything like this again. Let's treasure the time in history. Peace and love to all.
I can't believe my incredible luck to see Jefferson Airplane, Hendricks, 10 Years After, Zeppelin and many others ending their tours in Hawaii, my home in the late 60's and 70's. Incredible. Santana and Buddy Miles in the Crater was heaven.
