Thanx for that one guys. This remains as one of my favourite most listened too albums. More than happy that you did the original studio version. The album was released in 1967 (the Summer of Love). Hippiedom was in full swing and this particular song is laced with oblique drug references ( e.g.sunshine instead of snow ). The album title itself was the bands reference to taking LSD . Whilst I'm not advocating people do that I certainly recommend giving the whole album a listen , wont you try ?
Great selection on a JA deep cut. Enjoy seeing reviews beyond their two most popular songs. That whole album kills and if you want a great Slick lead vocal, check out rejoyce, which is her take on James Joyce's Ulyssess.
The LP version is definitely superior to the Woodstock version. At the time there was a very high quality, very clean variety of LSD known as "sunshine" - yellow, orange and blue, which is what all the sunshine references are in the song. Saturday Afternoon is referencing The Human Be-In held in Golden Gate Park on January 7th, 1967. Over 20,000 people came to party, play and celebrate. Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead played along with speakers Timothy Leary (Tune in, turn on, drop out) and poet Alan Ginsburg. It was basically the birth of the Hippie movement. The two male vocalists are Paul Kantner and Marty Balin, who co-founded Jefferson Airplane. When the band broke up Paul, Grace and Marty evolved into Jefferson Starship while Jorma (lead guitar) and Jack Casady (bass) went on to form Hot Tuna.
This is my favorite JA album. I especially love Grace's two songs "Rejoyce" (which is a rendering of James Joyce's novel "Ulysseus") and "Two Heads" (very acid trippy). I am a selective fan of Jefferson Starship, especially Paul Kantner's epic album "Blows Against The Empire". Starship was commercial, boring and a power grab by Micky Thompson (or is it Thomas?...whatever).
@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering Some days are just like that. There could be a Riot in the Street and I wouldnae even look oot the Windae until I've had at least mi third Coffee in the Mornin.
Hi guys, Please retrieve the post I put up about Stevie Wright's Evie. There's an email about a new upload of the song on DailyMotion. Please check. Also, please add the following to your list: *Do Re Mi - Man Overboard / Adultery (Audio + Video merge 2024)* I know you did Man Overboard a year ago, but please revist the song in its video-clip form and double it with ''Adultery''. Both are great Do Re Mi songs. As part of Women's Month, I think singer Deborah Conway and bassist Helen Carter would be great additions.
What’s up, guys! Since you mentioned Jefferson Starship, thought I’d recommend two rockers from their first album, “Ride the Tiger” & “ Hyperdrive.” Think you’ll dig them. Peace.
