@Danii Decay some people are fans but don't follow everything that celeb does. Some fans are stans and know every little thing about a celeb but other fans are just like "yea I like this person" but don't look at every post/video/interview they've ever done. It's easy to miss some things. Cancel culture didn't exist in the Myspace days. Problematic behaviour didn't go viral like the way it does now. It was easier to miss back then. I didn't know about the Jeffree stuff either until super recently. And I actually thought I was caught up but saw some new stuff in this video that I missed!

...which is a lie and stereotyping. Jeffree Star became this successful on their own. They started low, reached fame with MySpace, then had decent success with music but started Jeffree Star Cosmetics with almost no money. You can judge Jeffree on their moral attitude and behaviour but claiming that Jeffree isn't a self-made millionaire is factually false. People who started rich and got richer would be Kylie Jenner and Donald Trump for instance. I myself was born into a wealthy family and if I would aspire to become a millionaire, then I couldn't say that I started from the bottom - unlike Jeffree Star.

I will disagree as I think that demonizing wealth is a bad idea as it's generalizing an entire group. I don't support Jeffree Star in the slightest, I just don't think that's a good critique. One could also argue that it leads her up to the criticism of her making a decent amount of money. I'm not trying to justify that point, I'm simply saying where I think it's wrong.

When an influencer says “don’t trust a big celebrity or favorite influencer including me, turn and learn the products to figure out what is best for you” and encourages individual research, that influencer is showing themselves to be trustworthy. Cassandra shows her values and sticks to them despite potentially costing for it. That’s someone I would trust and want in my circle and on my feed. When has Jeffree Star, Shane Dawson, or any other problematic influencer ever discredited themselves and encouraged individual research? Never. That’s what separates them from people like Cassandra. She’s the real deal. 💜💜

Having that much money depends on the people working below you and unfortunately our society doesn't value minimum wage workers or workers in 3rd world countries. Even billionaires that give lots of money to charity have children mining cobalt to make iPhones or workers being paid less than a living wage making clothes. It's not about the billionaire as a person, it's about what it takes to have and keep that much money in this society. It's not a hard and fast rule but if you look at billionaires within the commercial world, most of them are only there through exploitation.

It’s actually a humectant, and a really good one. It’s widely used because it’s one of the most affordable and tested skincare components. But of course Jeffrey Star wouldn’t know that, I genuinely believe that his skincare expertise boils down to ‘I can tell which product is more expensive and therefore superior’.

I'm old, and followed him back in Myspace days, and quit following him for quite a while over the racist stuff. When he decided to go to Wyoming and work on himself, I started following him again. I have yet to notice current racist actions or sayings, but if you'd like to cite some current examples, since obviously you wouldn't accuse someone of being racist without backing it up, it would be much appreciated. If current racist actions can be proven, then let the judgement out, but if we are still citing a decade ago like everyone does, that's ridiculous.

But this comment thread made me wonder and jump into the rabbit hole as to why Jeffree is always painted as a villain.. now.. I am confused about the 10 years ago comment, maybe it was an exaggeration or something, but when this particular video was released (I'm talking about Cassandra Banks video, the one we're commenting on), it was mere weeks after the incident of Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson were revealed to have actively tried to sabotage James Charles for no good reason blew up. And the texts of Jeffree Star to drama channels egging them on in creating content about cancelling James Charles were just a year before.. I think it's not so far fetched for a skin care content creator to not want that kind of drama/negative energy to enter the skin care community, especially since skin care content creators are supportive of each other. Although, in terms of specifically racist statements made in recent years, I could not find any. And if that means for you he's turned over a new leaf, I don't know what to say.

I have textured skin and I'm acne-prone. I've had a bunch of comedones on my cheeks for years and little tiny bumps that you could barely see on my forehead + chin. And if I used to much of something that's oily/really moisturizing I could get really clogged pores and some pimples/zits, so it'd make my skin a lot worse. (Weird cuz I actually have dry skin) So you can have both definetely. Some people's acne are just worse than others. He just seems to be one of the very very lucky ones. But nonetheless, he's still awful anyway.

I commented early then did chores. After finishing the video it’s almost like the micro issues of skincare and the way people speak become macro issues when someone is intelligent enough (like Cassandra) to connect them all. Consumerism connecting to the influencers who promote items. The morals these people support, do they align with ours, or are we just falling into a marketing scheme? It all falls to the dollar and how people interact to chase that dollar.

@@cynthiaisako I found this whole scene a few months ago with Covid lock down, but I'm very surprised that people started to "discover" his true nature despite those disgusting videos where he destroys Chanel and LV purses, brags about mansions in which there isn't a single book etc. while 40% people in his country have no health insurance and homeless people starve literally in his neighbourhood. He isn't the source of the problem, he's just one of many symptoms. Scapegoating Jeffree Star will not resolve anything.
