I’ve only been to a Jehovah’s Witness church once and it was for a funeral of a family member. Their daughter was a member and that’s why it was there. It was the most infuriating funeral service I’ve ever been to because the pastor who led the service turned my family member into a Jehovah Witness even though he wasn’t one at all. Dude even made up an entire fabricated conversation between him and the family member on his death bed and they wanted all of us to know about Jesus’ message of his kingdom and then gave a sermon. I couldn’t believe it and I get frustrated thinking about it now and this was over a decade ago

The question asked in his school was basically "If a classmate was bullied for being gay or trans, would you join the bullies or would you support your classmate?" The question wasn't about whether you would support or not support them, it was specifically about whether you would support or BULLY them. My friend's son said he would bully them, and she was so disappointed in him for making that choice. She also told him that his teacher likely lost all respect for him, too. Once again, I am not joking. This question was asked in 2024 in a central California middle school.

Today my grandfather passed away. I was telling the owner of a local coffee shop who I’m close to about it, and a JW in the shop overheard and tried to recruit me using it. I was so upset I started arguing with her and telling her it was a bad thing to do. Although I feel bad for making a scene I think she deserved to hear it

The only cartoon about religion that made sense was "Morel Orel".

Of course the moral of the slave girl story isn't that slavery is a crime against humanity, but help the family keeping you enslaved.

I can't help but laugh at every time they say "Jehovah" because of the almost audible twitch it gives, but also because my brain keeps replacing it with "Jenova" (the alien monster... Thing from Final Fantasy 7).

When I was in 8th grade, there was one other JW kid in my homeroom class but we went to different congregations. The homeroom teacher was so offended that we wouldn't salute the flag that he made us wait out in the hall until the anthem and pledge were finished. It wasn't humiliating AT ALL, I swear. The most emotionally fraught time in a person's life and we were ostracized by a teacher and the school had no problem with it. 🙄 I hated talking about the religion mostly because I thought it was ridiculous and nonsensical, but when your parents are in the cult what can you do? Keep up the good work, Owen. BTW, I'm halfway through your book and it's phenomenal. Thanks for what you do.

You know, the more and more I watch videos covering JWs, the word Jehovah sounds less and less like an actual word.

I live in Australia and frankly, depending on the place, a whole class without homophobia is possible. I don't think Americans fully realise how "unique" is their upbringing. And I don't mean it in a good way...

My wife & I were briefly friends with a couple who lived several houses down our street. We bonded over their goofy Husky who liked to "talk" to people who came by her yard. Turned out, they had a whole menagerie of animals, including a pig. And that's what we bonded over, their pets. Then it came up that they were heading to church one day, & I foolishly asked what denomination: Jehovah's Witness. I further compounded my idiocy & told them I was an atheist. They cut us off cold & refused to ever see us again. All because I wasn't part of their cult.

"Two mommies" Ah, it just occurred to me! That's the very situation in my household. 😾 Not too long ago, two members of my feline family had kittens, within a week or two of each other. At first, they'd try to steal each others kittens, but soon, they accepted the situation, and learned to share. So, those kitties had TWO mommies!

When my mother, and later my father, passed away, several acquaintances gave me religious tracts and a religious book, and asked me about my beliefs regarding the afterlife. I just refused to answer their questions, thanked them because they were my coworkers and I didn't want to be rude, then threw away the tracts and book unread

As a lesbian.. almost 17 years old . With a Jehovah's witness family... it's hard . They don't know. And the crazy thing is.. at one point.. I was trying to Change myself. It went so far that I tried offing myself. Multiple times.. it didn't work.. after that I met someone... she recently turned 18.. shes a grade higher than i am... she's starting college soon. I'm trying to work and be able to take care of myself and college because I'm preparing to run... she means the world to me... people say I'm young and confused and it's just a phase or wtv... well it's not.. when I turn 18... I'm staying with her... we have each other and that's all that matters to me... if we don't last.... then so be it... but I just want to say that you should never let anybody try to change who you truly are... learn how to embrace it... I'm not saying to run.... I'm just saying.. for me.. it's easier to run away from problems until you're ready to face them.. and I'm not ready to face them... Everytime I've brought up the fact that I don't wanna be in the religion or that I don't believe. they get super mad at me forcing me to be in it anyway

When I was in kindergarten, I got in trouble at school because I ripped another little girls sticker from her shirt, that said "peace for all" and I so violently ripped it off saying "only Jehovah will bring peace" Dude. That is soooo embarrassing and I feel so bad for the trauma I must have caused that little girl. I didn't even get in trouble at home, because "they knew I meant well" wtf!? I was raised JW. The idea of taking your Awake or Watchtower TO SCHOOL is ABSURD. That is what would get you beaten up, that is what the bullies would take and rip up, that is what you would be called "weird" for, and rightly so - imagine a bog standard Christian kid carrying around the bible everywhere.

Speaking of backward mindsets, my mother was raised Catholic. ( My grandfather was a parish organist). She and her brothers and sisters were raised to believe if you werent Catholic, you werent going to heaven when you died, and that they were better than anybody else that wasn't Catholic. After she went through her little the foray into Evangelical craziness and when she snapped back to reality, she realized all of these thoughts have been so wrong.

There was a JW girl in my class growing up that I thought was nice so I tried to initiate being her friend. She just got really shy and didn't open up at all. The next year she was homeschooled. I understand so much more about that situation now, or how she might have been thinking/feeling

I hate admitting how good these animations are. Not just the animation quality, but it's over all structure and storytelling. There's actual talent behind these. A frustrating waist of talent.

I'm Lutheran and I went to a Lutheran school for a lot of my life. I remember being told in the *second grade* about a girl in a school shooting who, when the shooter asked if she believed in God, she said yes, and she was shot for it. The whole lesson was to stick to your beliefs no matter what, but all it did was terrify me into believing that, if I did, I would die, but if I didn't, I would be betraying God. It's probably one of the reasons why I still have such a deep paranoia of being in a school shooting one day. Years later, I realize the story was from Columbine (I originally thought it happened at the high school I would've attended if I hadn't switched to public school) and that it likely wasn't even true. The girl was killed, and there was another girl who was asked if she believed and survived, but the whole "being killed for believing in God" story was most likely a misconception. I was told a misconception and it scared me for years.

I've never been involved with Jehovah's Witnesses, so I may be wrong, but that first cartoon you showed (the Jeremiah one) seems almost like a study book or Watchtower (I can't remember which ones have questions you have to answer at the meetings) in a cartoon format instead of a book. That seems to be going overboard on that stuff.

If Jehovah is my friend, then why if I make a mistake, I must be shunned? You’re expected to basically disown your child if they make a mistake. What kind of friend is that? To kick your friend out and leave them with nothing? Y’know I would rather be brainwashed by the Eden’s Gate cult from Far Cry 5, than be a Jehovah’s Witness.
