Wish is an INSULT to the Disney formula 

Sometimes you watch deleted scenes and think "aw man, that wouldve been cool to add, oh that makes sense!" Rarely do you see a bunch of deleted scenes and think "oh so theres the movie"

Asha and Starboy’s romance could have been a PERFECT callback to Disney’s classic true love’s kiss trope. But no we had have a plushie with Mickey’s face…

Magnifico is not even a villain in the final product. He's just A GUY trying to protect his system. He's the KING after all.

You know you f*ucked up when you could’ve had a love interest AND a marketable plushie, they’re not mutually exclusive all Disney renaissance movies have both- but instead we got a corporate mute sidekick and an annoying useless sidekick 💀, With them being non-human and her friends and family being as shallow as a puddle it seems Asha has no relationships going on WHATSOEVER 😂

My friend said he had to take his kids to Stone Cold Creamery to cheer them up, his daughter was close to tears by sheer boredom. If you can disappoint kids who adore Disney, you done goofed on your film.

Tbh i think they should've made ashas arc like a reversal of tianas, where tiana had to learn that she could rely on other people, asha has to learn to rely on herself. Instead of relying on magnifico to make her and her loved ones' wishes come true, she learns that she can strive to make them come true on her own

It really speaks volumes when their significantly smaller side production, "Once Upon A Disney" which is basically a glorified tour guide of the entire Disney history with all of their animated characters both 2D and 3D appearing in it, served as an infinitely better 100 year anniversary celebrating their legacy than "Wish" ever was. It's genuinely baffling how hard they fumbled the bag with this one

Asha says “if the wishes are bad we can stop them” but there’s never a moment where the wishes aren’t portrayed as the best and most magical thing in the world, and there’s never a moment where she gets challenged on her beliefs, where someone says that they got their wish granted, but realized that they didn’t need it to be happy

WHY did Disney have to cut out all the great concepts for Wish?! You know what? I'm GLAD that they weren't nominated for anything this year! Maybe this is the wake-up call they need to start actually giving a shit about the movies and shows they make!

The cut scene of Asha telling Star-boy to turn down his brightness is so fun and cute!! I would've preferred those scenes to the actual movie

they didn't want starboy to be too powerful compared to asha by being able to transform into anything--and yet a movie like nemona doesn't seem to have this problem, despite her literally turning into a kaiju in the end. Anyway what I'm saying is nemona is just good wish

Somethings I'd Change: 1. Asha is Magnifico & Amaya's daughter 2. Star Boy. 3. King Magnifico is a fallen star. 4. At all costs was the lullaby they sang to Asha. 5. Asha WAS her parents Wish. 6. The story is a love story, both romantic and familia. 7. An external threat causes Amaya and Magnifico to be evil but it as spawned from wanting to protect people. 8. Asha using At all costs to remind her corrupted parents of their love for their daughter. 9. Star boy plays a major role and works to fix things with Asha. At All costs lyric Change can be a transformation of the song from a lullaby of her parents to a love ballad. 10. Amaya and Magnifico return to normal and they work together to save Rosas.

If only they kept star's ability to shape shift, they could have squeezed in so much more easter eggs from previous disney films like animal characters, etc.

Ironically, Puss in Boots:The Last Wish actually had way more references to fairytales and Disney callbacks without being too annoying about it. Magic nanny bag, poison apples, walking broom, Jiminy Cricket, heck even a cameo of Cinderella’s glass slipper, all present and were fun Easter Eggs to find. Bonus for Perrito being the ‘animal sidekick’ that is actually developed well and doesn’t detract from the scene like Valentino the goat did. Plus, MAGIC WISHING STAR being front and focus and shows off its immense power even without granting a single wish. So failure on Wish right there. And I do love the shoutout to Trolls 3 😂 That movie played with nostalgia (early American boy bands) much better and had a banger soundtrack that still lives for free in my brain (and I don’t even charge it rent 😉). While I’m more into the protagonists than Velvet and Veneer, I do love how ‘extra’ they are as villains and their spaghetti body designs allows a lot of room for creativity and expression. The viewer can also see how much more impactful their actions have on the characters. Along with the obvious height difference, there’s such a coldness with Velvet whenever she steals Floyd’s and the other’s essence and displays such a blatant disregard for them every time she interacts with them. Excess shaking, overusing the spray, amused when they attempt to bargain for their release, she’s really a despicable character and is soooo vain and selfish 😂 That’s the level of horridness King Magnifico needed to be! Honestly, if one were to pit Velvet and King Magnifico together, she would totally wipe the floor with him verbally and he probably wouldn’t be a able to get a spell in cause she would steal whatever is available and easy to grab and take him by surprise. 😂

When the scene with the book saying that once you use dark magic you are corrupted forever I halved expeted that there was going to be a twist where Amaya's true love for Magnifico was going to be able to "break the curse". I didn't have too much hope, seeing how the movie was going, but I thought it would be fun to have the villain be the one that's save by true love.

I honestly feel bad for king magnifico. He was Literally the hero of the story until he just randomly got possessed. Also, when he got sucked into the staff in the end, doesn't that mean he got out of being possessed? Yet the queen didn't try to figure out if he was still possessed or not and just locked him up? The person she loved for years??? This movie Gave me almost as much of a headache as the end of "orion and the dark" on Netflix 😑

The Wish was so bad that many suspected that the movie was written and generated by AI. However, this is apparently not the case, instead the film was re-written and re-edited many times before it took its final shape. For example, Asha's romance with the star boy and the queen's villainess were unfortunately elements that didn't pass the approval of Disney's jury of sensitivity readers. And while in some cases sensitivity readers can be useful, such as in consulting, in this case its use ate away a lot from the film. However, I would still be interested to know what the jury's reasons for these changes were, because it is important data and part of the film's development history.

You might have already seen it, but you can find the deleted scene "Magnifico's secret" on youtube! It's a scene between Magnifico and Queen Amaya(when she was still written as a villain), and their chemistry as an evil couple is so incredibly charming. Amaya has so much character and it made me laugh more times than the entirety of Wish. You should definitely watch it if you haven't yet, it might be my favorite storyboard of the bunch.

Really rub salt in the wound that Magnifico will NEVER grant Sabino's Wish. And Asha looks at Sabino and says something like "Saba, I never should have tried to get your wish granted... (gasp, whaaat?) I wanted to become Magnifico's apprentice to help you because... *you are my greatest inspiration!* But you don't need *me* to grant your wish. You don't need _HIM_ (Magnifico) to grant your wish either. *_You,_** Only YOU, can make **_YOUR_** wish come true! ... and you've already showed me you can."*_ And Asha's gentle peptalk is what prompts SABINO to sing the reprise to the people and INSPIRE THE NEXT GENERATION CROWD TO TAKE THEIR WISHES BACK, demonstrating that everyone has the power in them to try and make their wish come true, and the best way to help guide someone to their dream is with understanding and support, (not just handwavy cheat magic.)

God, I would love a Villain Couple. I would kill for a really good evil duo who are also in love. I want them to have a healthy relationship with one another but be utterly toxic to everyone else. Somebody else write me that story, because Disney ain't gonna do it.

When I went to see this, I loved it but I HATED the third act, even after seeing the film in person, the concepts had a lot of potential but fell flat immediately which is why I'm rewriting my own "Wish" over on Tumblr in which I believe should've been the real celebration of 100 years of Disney

About the scene you missed: it was a scene where Amalia prepared a "potion" for Magnifico. He used it (along with some chants in Latin) to create a sort of "rope of light" to drag down the star from the sky. It was quite dramatic. In the scene, he fails and has an outburst of rage and frustration where he attempts to eat wishes out of spite. There was a really cool interaction between him and Amalia, who was trying to calm him down and stop him from devouring three wishes: A: "this is your favourite cook's wish!" KM: "There are other cooks". A: "This is your best guard's...and please, this is my mother's!" KM: "Well, in that case..."(Magnifico tries to sneak it) A:"Please, be serious!" It was really a good moment where they established the villain power couple. I think you can still find it on other reaction vids

when i watch wish, they made a reference to the seven dwarves, like dahlia is too obsessed with magnifico, dario has to take care of his chickens, simon is too much of a sleepy character, safi sneezes so much, hal isn't like happy and gabo is too mad oh and bazeema is too shy of a person to speak up.

If anything Wish could serve as a cautionary tale about how Corporate Greed can Royally Ruin a good idea & how Extremely Bad it can cost Everything Good that could have happened.

My running theory about starboy's change was that roughly the same time Disney was also bankrolling Nimona, and had to pivot their ideas once scenes started looking too similar.

wish has so many individual elements that could’ve made so many different and amazing movies/shows. like, a fairy godmother origin story would have been incredible and so cool. a show about seven teenagers who are clearly the seven dwarves but still doing their own thing might’ve actually been interesting. and the beautiful romance between star boy and asha?! they just had way too many ideas and no time thanks to the people who basically own these animators lives.

Ok, but making a Peter Pan based Star Boy is the basis for like the most romantic story Disney could have made in a decade. There is something inherently romantic about a guy physically flying into your life and physically whisking you off into the sky. The not Disney 2003 version got it, Aladdin got it, (and so did Steven Moffat and Matt Smith 😅), and I think a lot of people would have loved something like that! The romantic in me wanted to see a Once Upon a Dream/ fairy dance/ pas de deux sequence so much!

I love how the villain of Wish looks VERY similar to the guy who cut out all the good parts of what could have been an amazing movie. It feels satisfying

The problem isn't that pop music artists can't do music for Disney movies. The problem is that they SHOULD make their music more THEATRICAL because it's basically animated theatre. And also depends in the context. F.e Treasure Planet having more of a rock sound makes sense because the ambient isn't "magic fairytale" it's sci-fi and steampunk. And Elton John didn't made pop for The Lion King. He did what the movie needed. The problem is that these NEW SONGWRITERS think more of the song itself than how it integrates with the whole product.

I am at 16:55 of this video and just realized that Sabino's wish would be too vague to grant even if it wasn't dangerous. Like what would Magnifico do? Make Sabino have an inspirational aura? Have him speak inspirational? Have him build a home? The wish shows him singing and using his guitar but then wish was only to create something that will inspire. Dangerous or not, it was vague to the point where Magnifico wouldn't even know how to grant it in the first place.

I'm 89% sure that the spiderverse screwed Wish over. No fault of its own. It was just too good. Also there's no fairy tale to retell. The foundation of all the classics is that they are retelling a story. Even the Lion King is just Hamlet with some african myths mixed in. The key ingredient in the disney formula is to dust off an old fairy tale to make the base. Edit: I found one. The Six Ravens/swans because it includes 7 siblings and the main character is the daughter. She gets help from a star.

Once upon a studio, a 8 minutes short has: more talent, more creativity AND respect for animation than Wish. More emotion too! I almost cry when i saw Mickey thanking Walt for all theses years of magic and dreams. It was adorable 🥰This short is, to me, the real 100 years celebration of the compagny.

They could have had their cake and ate it too with Starboy. Make him have his human form at night when he shines brightest or whatever, and then have the chibi marketable plushie version during the day when he is conserving power. Then you could keep a lot of the chemistry and humor with their interactions and have the design that kids will love and buy merch of.

What infuriates me is the costume designs. They dont tell me much about the characters or culture (But hey, havent watched the movie). As you said about magnifico his design is semetrical and screems perfection, enven his slicked back hair (It would be cool to see a shot where his hair gets messy and he huffingly shuves it back in place.). I also like that his colour palet is white - useually having connotations of purity light or hope, which is a stark contrast to the "Villan" role he "plays" which (would have) been and interesting irony for the veiwers. But asha? What even is she wearing? And i do not see any cultural anything from her outfit. Furthermore she just blends in to the backg characters, kinda forgetable and nlt really what you want for a main character. Remember encanto and the culture there? On top of that infeel like Ashas hair moves very wierdly and more in a block than actual hair strands. And we know disney can do this, the did it with mirabel, Rapunzel. Missed opportunity.

the entire animation looks like one of those disney "animation rough drafts" that you'd see in the production process rather than a final project. this feels like those few clip of moana's hair curls; very unfinished. i know they were trying to go for the storybook-look but they missed the mark so badly... 😭💀

Wish constantly tries to appear diverse without ever bothering to actually to characterise, flesh out or center any of the characters that are usually underrepresented. But the best version of this was sitting right in front of them !! It’s so weird hearing concept artists talk about how Starboy couldn’t at once be a ‘mime’ character and humanesque. Like, deaf people who choose not to speak .. exist !?? U can ? Take advantage of Disney’s catalogue of globally-known iconography to create a sort of universal sign language ?? It would be inventive and unique and striking and resonate with deaf ppl irl and it would hav been better in every conceivable way ..?? Head hurts
