Interview with Stephen discussing his life and marriage to a Jehovah's Witness. He provides an insiders view on what it's like being married to a Jehovah's Witness. He not only became well versed in the religion, but can provide an in-depth review on what you can expect. While every relationship may not be the same, there are a lot of similarities when it comes to following the Watchtower's rules.

I have known the pain of dating a jw. They can never love you for who you are, they are always trying to drag you to their religion. Every arguments we had was about his religion. He never wanted his family to know about me I was a very well kept secret. He had a double life, with me he was another person breaking all the rules but when he goes back to his family and jw crowd he switches back to saint mode. These people are hypocrites Its so frustrating to date a Jehovah witness. If you have never dated one, DON'T DO IT. I felt heart broken because he finally chose the organization over me, but I feel like I dodged a bullet

@Ranetta Maxwell well I'm worldly but I'm a virgin still at 25 and I'm faithful, honest, kind, I'm decent person but not to the standards of the society. There are a lot of lonely women in the org that are waiting for there elder Superman to marry them but it's never gonna happen there are more women in there than men. Also not to mention the men there are no prizes. I'm 25 and some women were going to there 40s not even married yet and they are nice women good women. I personally just wanted love but was never gonna find it cause I was not baptized and doing enough there talk about sad. Also I believe a women and man should be 50/50 if she can lead let her lead if I can lead better than her I'll lead but what's important is that I love her and she loves me but that's just me..

Your story is very like mine. Dated a disfellowshipped JW for 2 years. Im not a JW. I was left worse off after that relationship. I had to leave him for similar situations you described. I met my husband though and i am very happy now. It was such a long story with so many issues at the time. He never saw how he hurt me on so many levels and im sure to this day he still doesnt accept his negative part in the relationship. Like in tge video, it felt like i was constantly being groomed by him, spiritually and physically. I used to have to stand in a graveyard when he popped into his family home..i was only 19/20 and he was 26/27 so i was soooo naive!

bull. Many jws have envious marriages. Thats what the BIBLE teaches is good basis gor marriages. Look. The jws are the first to say before this stupid woman on this video that nobody is perfect and some are hypocritical. But that is not what they promote, the show what the Bible says on marriage. So dont sit there and say dont marry a jw etc thats just stupid. Its not 50 50, its 100% in a marriage and you wermt no saint neither!!

@@queue555 a marriage should never have a foundation on just being from the same religion to marry that's wrong. It just causes segregation it brings this whole narrative of "us vs them" the us being JW's and the them being outsiders. I was an outsider and wasn't even allowed to pursue someone I liked just cause I wasn't baptized that's wrong even if I was baptized and a JW that doesn't even mean I'd be an adequate husband or boyfriend..

@44:18 ! Yes, this is so true. My ex WOULD NOT communicate to me that he would “lose EVERYTHING” (privileges/disfellowship) for being seen with me, going to church, going out on a date - unsupervised, etc. - but after any of these 'offenses' - the shame cycle in our relationship began - I truly didn't understand it. I thank God our relationship didn't progress to marriage. After knowing him and being in a relationship for almost three years, I can look at this interview and say this is a glimpse of what our marriage would have resembled in many ways - I'm so thankful to God ! It’s funny how she wasn’t attracted to JW men, but through pressure and grooming tried to turn him into that type of person. All of the things that initially attracted her to him she tried to erase away, to fit into this bland mold. Ironically a truly devout JW man wouldn’t have looked her way because of her less than stellar reputation in the congregation, but she wants him to be more like them.

He went to church and I never denied him the opportunity to celebrate holidays with our children and he also took them to church with him whenever he requested. @@Ilovesummer123 No they didn't, but, because I was married to an unbeliever, I felt that they didn't deem me spiritual enough, if that makes sense. I think those that are married to unbelievers are definitely treated differently, as if we could easily be corrupted by our spouse, and for that you never felt like you really belonged. There was pressure, however, to "talk" to him about "the truth" as much as possible, and my husband did attend a few meetings with me and even had a few bible studies, but it wasn't for him and I never resented him for it. I was kinda glad to be married to an unbeliever because I felt I didn't have the same pressures as other wives. "Weird mentally challenged" - YES Tanaea! That is a🎯🎯🎯 spot on description of what that watchtower organization does to the men. Many of the women too but the men, being in the minority in many places throughout the organization with the centuries old underlying misogynistic CULT-ure creates mindset mentalities of always "trusting in Jehovah's 'organization', and basically giving our lives over to organizational dictates. Now if you as a JW woman marry a JW man then you're forced into submission to be subjugated and oppressed in many cases under how watchtower applies the "headship" "principle" - consciously or subconsciously. That's how so-called "spiritual families" were judged and ranked essentially. The cult goes so far off the path of decency and normalcy and with the fear-mongering, obligation-burdening, guilt-tripping and shame-blaming, that creates this "weird" and "mentally challenged" culture - both individually and collectively with how we're told by the JW CULT-ure to act and comport ourselves. It takes away our natural personalities, especially the good portions, to put on a fake persona the "higher" a "brother" goes and robs us of our authenticity - and we didn't even realize it until we're out looking back at the indoctrinated Cult members we once were.

@davidwicklin9943
@davidwicklin9943 4 года назад
@@Ilovesummer123 Being reinstated as a JW is viewed as a "positive" in a congregation's eyes as that's what they, on occasion, actively try to do to those of us no longer going to meetings or in a disfellowshipped "state" status is get reinstated and/or reactivated as opposed to "inactive" where one no longer goes in "field service" to turn in time reports to the elders. Since it's been one year for him since reinstatement the congregation probably "lifted restrictions" they normally keep a reinstated member on after 6 months to one year such as being able to comment at meetings or have a "privilege of service" like carrying a microphone or "being used" in reading the watchtower or opening/closing with prayer or "conducting" a field service "arrangement" to "take the lead" as a "brother". So a reinstated brother/sister can now generally converse with other JW members having taken the "step" to get back into "good standing" as a member congregant. So he's no longer condemned like he was before in a "disfellowshipped" status. And in the eyes of JW elders & rank & file he is "back in the race" on the road to "everlasting life" and is viewed as having better chances of surviving Armageddon in order to be in the JW "Paradise". If he was dating you a non-JW, he being a JW, the congregation and his elders especially would strongly disapprove of the relationship and actively discourage it likely trying to break it off, however, they know they cannot force someone to stop. But the elders, once they get wind of it will give "strong private counsel" to the JW about dating non-believers dropping scriptures about "marrying only in the Lord" from 1 Corinthians 7:39 or "not becoming unevenly yoked with unbelievers" - typically the JW elders will line up a mid-week "Local Needs" talk to the whole congregation to condemn it without actually naming the congregant engaged in dating the unbeliever. Yeah, it gets that deep! And the labels like "good standing" are very Scientology-like. For being married to you now already they view the marriage as a permanent, everlasting done deal - decision's been made legally and is also scripturally binding on him with the two of you being married so, in my personal observations of these cases, having been a JW in Chicago and Wisconsin 25+ years is a "good" elder will encourage him to be a good husband, love you, and treat you right assigning you "honor" as to what they call women "the weaker vessel". His congregation and elders, IF they're "scriptural" minded, will expect him to stay married to you faithfully unless adultery occured, typically the only reason allowable in watchtower for a "scriptural" divorce. If it's a new marriage to a non-JW I've generally seen most JW congregants just accept that - "sisters" are to view him as off-limits/off the market. While they won't view an "interfaith" marriage quite the same way they are supposed to respect it. Some individuals cases have varied though. My 2 cents worth - hope that helps. And expect that you may feel some pressure at times from the JW congregants to "offer you a Bible study" or invite you to go with him to meetings with gradual attempts to convert you. I saw a lot of that in Chicago when one was a JW marrying a non-JW or either a boyfriend/girlfriend or either hubby/wife becomes a JW, the pressure is put onto the non-JW sometimes mildly, sometimes more intensely, to recruit indoctrinate. That can go on for years, decades in some cases I saw.

@@lindiasanders3948 Congratulations on getting out in 2017 as that was the year I finally truly started waking up as well, last going in "field service" formally in May 2017 working a cart right before going to one of the three days of convention. The child sex abuse cover ups with journalist Trey Bundy's reports after the Candace Conti verdict were the tipping point deal breaker for me, especially seeing this was and is an industrialized, pervasive, systemic problem having gone on for decades being swept under the rug with watchtower keeping it's own hidden database of JW pedophiles & child abusers in-house listed on their own records with many not turned over for law enforcement to investigate.

The JW keep you ignorant and then arrogant about it. 🔑 The sister manipulated herself into marriage with a good man who was raised by a close caring and sound family and then tried to kill his spirit. 😔 She tried to ruin him.😪 It is an insane game she played upon herself and her daughter. I bet the young lady is dishonest and plotting just like her mother was today. It is best to get an education and proper training yourself so you don't have to become a person who seeks to benefit from the efforts of others! Deceit when uncovered chokes off all the love and trust. She married a good man and then tried to make him to her liking so she could keep up appearances! The daughter they had together will benefit from her father's leaving the JW and her mom. He is the TRUTH! I hope he has found true Love with a partner who appreciates a man who fought for his marriage and family like he did because he deserves better. This man seems sincere. He seems to have been really in love with that woman. The woman however did not love him the same way back. She always saw him as worldly, never measuring up to her ideal Jehovah's witnesses man. It seems she married this man cos she couldn't find the one she wanted in her organization, which is what it always is. The women always try to settle for the "devil" when they don't get their "angel." Then they try to turn the devil into an angel. If you are not a Jehovah's witnesses, never marry one. I would take a worldly woman any day including Saturday n Sunday cos I am much aware of who she is. If she lies, cheats or do whatever, I won't worry so much, it's expected. Wow! Nice Mother's Day gift and 48th birthday gift for me this weekend in covering this very important topic. People in the "world" that date a JW or marry a JW don't realize they often are marrying into the indoctrination without fully realizing it and the pressure to convert to being a cult member or at least comply with the high control will be strong. Looking forward to listening to the rest of this!

Wow! I watched that interview and thought of myself.... I was raised a JW and converted my husband to being a Jehovah’s Witness.... he also was a singer and music writer and I convinced him to stop ..... he did... I pushed him into a 9-5 he did..... he got Baptized and I pushed him into serving in the hall that is when I got the push back ..... we had consist conflicts BUT due to the children we stayed married...... he was always at the meetings but it was obvious that he was not into it.....I put that poor man through it for 19 years.... all what he is saying I can relate I did those same things to my husband ...... Jehovah witness woman NEEDS to stay with other witnesses men and STOP trying to convert people.....powerful story ..... thanks for sharing

Stephen, I feel for you, so eloquently spoken, she doesn't deserve you. I can relate to the Watchtower brainwashing and box ticking to be a "righteous JW" which ultimately broke up my marriage once I woke up to the nonsense, but my wife would not. Similar situation, she was sailing close to the wind, or on the fence to me, but acting "holier than thou" should some bros & sisters knock on our door. So many JWs lead double lives to the one on display at the Kingdom Hall, sheer hypocrisy. I know so many broken marriages, but also so many waking up and leaving this corrupt money making Watchtower real estate Corp. You should write a book or have your own you tube channel. Thanks for sharing x

Listening to Kirk Franklin or Sounds Of Blackness are "worldly" "disfellowshipping" offenses according to Watchtower's theology. I got myself so indoctrinated and brainwashed as a 20 year old "walk-in convert" between 1992 to 1994 after my Mother died that I actually threw away my Sounds Of Blackness album along with most of my music collection, manipulated to think they were all "demonized".

Where did you find that listening to Gospel music was a disfellowshiping offense? Smh. I don't agree with a lot of what JWs do but they have Never stated this. They are against debasing music and entertainment as all those professing the be Christians should be. Some Gospel music goes against their belief system and would naturally not be listened to. Most of the issues involving JWs stem from their members being self righteous and making up their own rules 🙄

@@lady6164 In my Chicago JW congregations, that's where. It was stated from kingdom Hall talk platforms, in field service discussions, and if you look into the publications such as their "Keep Yourselves In God's Love" book the language about intermixing with any kind of what watchtower deems as "false religion" such as doing contracting work on repairing a church is severely condemned to a point where a judicial committee can be formed to explore reproving and disfellowshipping options if a person doesn't "leave false religion" and where I came from LadyEllington, even as a "walk-in convert" at 20 years old in 1992 becoming a very devout Jehovah's Witness for 25 years if we got caught listening to "Christendom music" like gospel music, those JW elders would be on us like white on rice! I should tell you about the time in the late '90s where I was helping a JW friend get moved - he had a Michael Jackson Thriller LP album slip out of one of the boxes we were moving. Well one of the JW elders, who also happened to be his original study conductor, saw the album and immediately said "you aren't supposed to be having a Michael Jackson album!!! He's a disfellowshipped/disassociated JW who left the faith". Total instant arbitrary condemnation!! I got the same for some of my own music collection when I had my initial study period between 1992-1994 before getting baptized. I can't make this stuff up! Why would I having been a devout JW for 25 years? Maybe it wasn't your observation or experience but it was mine - and I use to take pride in condemning "Christendom" and "Babylon The Great" as a devout JW having twice been a Ministerial Servant, gave public talks, took "the lead" in field service, etc.

First, this is a human nature story, not just a jw story. It should remind us, male and female, to be very careful when we are selecting life partners. Second, she did SHOW Stephen many times what type of person she was and what was most important to her. His friend even tried to warn him. Sadly, when we want to be with someone, we tend either to see what we want to see or not believe what we do see. Whether or not we see and/or question things, my experience has been that our gut will let you know if something is not right. I wonder if he got similar warnings and ignored them the same way I did. Although I will not take the blame for my mate’s deceptive behavior, I do take full responsibility for not following my instincts which told me to run. BTW, we were both jws when we met and spent years trying to make the best of a bad situation.

Because I was so brainwashed, I said because it comes from false religion. It is so engrained. It is insane. Now, that I am free I realize how backwards and insane it is and looks. I know I would've loved her if I would've got to know her but it's not allowed cause I was "worldly" nobody in the KH will like you if your not baptized and doing a lot in there.. it's just sad love less relationships with wives and husband's I'm 25 now and hopeful I find someone for me.. 😔 it's difficult for me to date cause I want to wait till marriage to have sex and trying to find a girl that is a virgin is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
