Jellyfishbot, a sea-cleaning robot, helps collect marine waste. The remote-controlled device invented by a French company can pick up rubbish from narrow spaces where trash tends to accumulate but remains inaccessible for cleaners with nets.

This is a solution for floating trash only. There's still micro plastic that in the ocean and on the sea floor, and the washed up debris near or on beaches. We should still be mindful of where we throw our trash even if a larger version of this robot exists in the future

While this is a great step at a cleaner ocean we still can't deny the fact that most of the trash eventually sinks to the bottom of the sea and it will be almost impossible to collect it all, we have to stop dumping waste out there, just because we can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there.

I thought I mention that this will only practically work on a smaller scale and only where the ecology is limited, including areas where oil spills have devastated the ecology. Otters, plenty of species of fishes and birds may nest on the surface, not to mention the water mammals that come up to breathe or the animals specialized in hunting animals from a view from down below. We need more technology to account for those variables. Great invention though, it doing what it’s meant to do at its finest.

I mean it’s great and all, but maybe we should have a submersible one as well. Trash still floating on the surface is still quite accessible for cleaning up, but many wastes that ends up in the sea floor ends up being there forever. There are plastic wastes even deep down in the Mariana Trench, developing a unmanned submersible for such depths would be great.

@pinkishhaven5158
@pinkishhaven5158 3 года назад
While this is really awesome, somehow it still saddens me looking at the trash. What some people could do, pick up some trash on the beach or not throw in it AT ALL, just to help keep the ocean clean so we wouldn't have to resort to have a robot do that cleaning for us. But then again, many of us can clean but there will still be wastes thrown out there, we can't control it. This is really helpful invention (just hope people won't use this as an excuse like, "welp, there's a jellyrobot that'll come pick up that trash later anyway") Granted, this robot could be really helpful in picking up trash from the deeper parts of the waters where no human can reach, unless they were riding on a boat but you get the point.
