Jemez Springs New Mexico, Where to Stay & What to Do
In this video we come back to Jemez Springs, New Mexico, one of my favorite mountain towns! We are staying in the most beautiful AirBnB properties, known as Mystical Mesa on Instagram / mysticalmesa
If you are interested in staying at this property (I highly recommend) it can be booked here: bit.ly/3yjzjO1 The is one of the most beautiful airbnb's I have ever stayed at!
Jemez Springs is a small village in the Santa Fe National Forest located just over 1 hour NW from Albuquerque in Central New Mexico. This is a popular destination to enjoy the outdoors with it's stunning natural beauty!
The AirBnb has three beautiful bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining area, sunroom, and laundry room. The wrap around deck offers the most stunning views of the red mountain cliffs and vibrant blue skies.
While staying in the village of Jemez Springs we visited the Jemez Springs Bath House and the Jemez State Monument (one of the NM Historic Sites) as well as the Los Ojos Saloon and the Highway 4 Bakery. We drive through the Jemez to the Valles Caldera to visit the historic cabin district and we stop at the famous Jemez Mountains Soda Dam.
The Jemez Springs Bath House is a historical property as this was the one of the first structures built in the area and was originally operated by the Otero and Perea families. This is the place you can visit to soak in the healing mineral water in a private bath. The water that feeds the bath house is from the original spring that erupted like a geyser in the 1860's and surprised the local residents. The bath house was the first effort to take commercial advantage of the hot springs. This bath house is located in the village center and is operated by the village as a non-profit. For more information see: jemezspringsbathhouse.com/
The Jemez State Monument is one of New Mexico's 8 historic sites. This site includes the remnants of a 700 year old village of the Guisewa people and the San José de los Jemez church dating to 1621/2. The Spanish established a Catholic mission at the village. The structures are incredibly well preserved. nmhistoricsites.org/jemez
We ate delicious food at two local restaurants: The Los Ojos Saloon losojossaloon.com/ and the Highway 4 cafe and bakery / hwy4cafe
We stopped at the popular soda dam, just off highway 4 on our way to the Valles Caldera.
The Valles Caldera National Preserve is now ran by the National Park Service and is open to the public. This is a 13 mile volcanic crater that attracts wildlife and is beautiful for nature lovers! If you stop at the visitor center, you can retrieve a permit to access the historic cabin district. This district reflects the ownership and land use history of four principal landowning families from 1860-2000. For more information on the Valles Caldera National Preserve see www.nps.gov/vall/index.htm
The Jemez Mountains is home to approximately 2500 elk! If you are lucky, you will see them at the Valles Caldera National Preserve.
Thank you so much for coming along on this tour of Jemez Springs!

This is a beautiful canyon and a great place for small-town living. It's been a while since I have at there at the Los Ojos restaurant. The food looked great! I used to get down and walk all the local attractions. The only place I have not visited is the ruins you visited. I'll have to check it out. The Valle Caldera is a beautiful preserve to visit. Great trip! Take care.

Excellent video I was born in New Mexico and after roughly 20 years or so I've started going back and now I'm considering moving there. To me it seems to be a land that challenges your mind and rewards an individual exponentially when we've proven we've stayed true to ourselves.

I'm always impressed every new video you post, you show us so many hidden gems, beautiful outdoor activities and places we don't hear so much but they're wow! Valles Caldera is now on my to-do and all the food looked super good + friendly people. I think once I finish the 197 countries, I'll set myself the target to visit every state in the US, you guys have an incredible variety of sceneries over there! Keep it up, loving your travel vlogs and reels! 🧭

Ummm.... that view out the back. 😮 Okay and that Jamez Historic Site...! I was thinking it reminded me of Besh-Ba-Gowah in a way (in terms of size) but then it just got bigger and bigger. Fantastic site! I believe Besh-Ba-Gowah does a luminaries event as well. Looks like you had a great time though! Hit up pretty much all amazing sites - from craters, to ruins of old historic sites, to old bath houses... Might have to mark some on our list as well. Feel like we're missing out. 😅

I never heard Jemez springs pronounced the way you say it (Hamez) I thought it was JEMEZ the j like an h accent on the latter part of the word. Need to ask a Spanish person but don’t think your saying it correctly. I did enjoy the video despite very beautiful

I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m saying it wrong. I’m from Albuquerque and thats how most folks pronounce it around here- but that doesn’t make it right! 😂 thanks for watching!!
