Just wanted to show everyone how amazingly talented Jemma Rix is, this is her Defying Gravity from the 30/12/09 and i think it is one of her best :) Follow me- / shaniaemk
This has been my favourite song for ages, and I thought Idina sang it perfectly. After hearing this, I can't listen to Idina anymore because Jemma is so perfect!
Jemma's just a better singer. Better vocal technique = less damage to voice = better, more consistent sound. Jemma's breathing technique is EXCELLENT, meaning she can get to the top of her range every time.
omg thankyou for doing this i have been replaying this in my head for the weeks since seeing this live, just watched some of the vids of the broadway cast, LOVING the aussie cast so much more!! yay! :)
In my opinion, Jemma is the best Elphaba there is and ever was! Not necessarily because of her amazing singing (coz there are others with just as much vocal talent), but the way she encapsulated the character. Most Elphabas we know today (Jessica Vosk, Alice Fearn atc) they have had a lot more exposure and experience in musical theatre, which means when they play Elphaba, they have a sense of true confidence in themselves. Jemma has no where near the amount of exposure as they’ve had, and when she performs, she is extremely modest and humble. With Jemma, she worked her way up, she didn’t have it all at once. The character Elphaba is vulnerable and yet forces herself to stand up against adversity. Because Jemma has not come from a place of privilege, she plays Elphaba in a way that truly represents what( I think) the character should be. Jemma has the incredible voice, but you don’t know until she starts singing and that to me makes he Elphaba, the most relatable.
Absolutely amazing! I went and saw it on Sat with the wife. I have no interest in musicals but did quite enjoy the show. This was the only song I knew and the ending just gives you goosebumps!
My only criticism of Jemma's performance is I feel she raced through the final "AHHH". I would have liked to have heard her hold each note for slightly longer, rather than racing through to hold the final note. But this was an incredible performance
Yes this is awesome, especially the extra bit she put into into "so if you care to find me", - but did anyone see the last performance in Perth? OMG...one word for that... WOW. Thanks for posting this though! I've never heard this version of it sung by her before, I always thought she was staying true to Idina's style. I love it both ways!!
@jasonr1929 It's when the PA (Sound System), hears a signal that it is producing, through the mic ... creating a "Feedback" loop, from mic to speaker to mic to speaker to mic to speaker etcetcetc ... That process creates a (in this case small) squeal sound on the PA.
Saw Wicked last night in Melbourne. Jemma still has it....no....she's better than ever. And the rightful lead this time, no more understudy nonsense for the Melbourne set
@sah2801 Bless Idina for being the first Elphie shaping it for everyone else. I'm yet to find an Idina performance where she's not slightly flat or shakey...
Ahhh, I absolutely LOVE Erin Hasan as Glinda- so glad I got to see her once! OMFG!!!! Jemma just gets better and better!!! AMAZING!!! Wow. That 'So if you care to find me' *dies*
@Adjectivalful She is my Idol to may I just add when i saw her she totally went up to the top of my list of my favourite people in the world!!!! I love Jemma! I wish I could meet her :'( If i did I would probably be starstruck and die!!! :P
@jasonr1929 Her voice is mind blowing :D her voice is so powerful and emotional she's such a talented singer :D She made me cry when she sang 'defying gravity' :'D
