Yeah, as someone who is a Christian (Catholic to be exact), I can confirm that we are nothing like Scientology. We are at least upfront about our beliefs, you can even get a Bible without paying a single cent. Also, the whole collection thing at Mass is completely optional. You don't have to give if you don't want to. In Scientology, it's mandatory and once they drain you of all your money, they kick you out on to the street.

LOL, I learned about it long before South Park, from Time Magazine in 1991, then again later from one of William Poundstone's Big Secrets books, and then from the Internet. South Park was only early to the party in terms of TV shows.

To be accurate, this "secret" has been out since at least the early 1980s. possibly the mid 1970s, but the Church of Scientology had largely been successful in keeping dedicated members from it, until the Internet got going full-force, especially via smart phones access. South Park was the wide-spead coup de grace.

Trust me when I say you don't want to involve yourself in Scientology. It begins as an innocent looking free stress test and the promise of improving your personality (and they *will* use your wanting a girl as a selling point). Next, they start charging you for courses. Then they offer you a deal where if you join staff you receive discounts. After that, you find yourself working 80 hour work weeks with little pay. It then destroys you from there by separating you from family and loved ones.

The South Park episode explained all the wacky shit from Scientology. It didn't make anything up, it simply stated what they actually believe. The thing is no inside of Scientology is allowed to read about it outside of Scientology, but everyone watched South Park, so when that episode hit it showed a lot of Scientologists some shit they didn't know they were getting into.
