Jennifer Hudson shows her love for “The Color Purple” - the 1985 film, the Tony-winning Broadway musical (which starred JHud!), and the 2023 musical movie. Colman Domingo, who plays Mister in the new film, discusses Oprah Winfrey being a hands-on producer. Ciara, who plays Nettie, talks about being blown away when she got the chance to star in the film. And music icon Chaka Khan reveals that she was approached by Steven Spielberg to play a pivotal role in his adaptation of Alice Walker’s book.

They asked Tina Turner to be Shug Avery and ahe turned it down... for the same reasons Fantasia didnt wanna do it again... too heavy of a role and mirrored her own life

She was young when she came out. The orig movie was from mid 80s... I looked her up. She is 70. There was a lot of controversy when this movie first came out. We don't know how many yrs beforehand they were looking for actors... lol

I can sort of see this from a looks point of view if one finds Ciara to be more beautiful. But Taraji has the right "on screen" aura for Suge's role. Sweet but will get what she wants and isnt ashamed. I dont think Ciara would pull that off the same. Just my opinion.
