What I also love about Shakira is that she never gets involved in controversies ever. She never comments on anyone in media, let alone shading anyone. She behaves very professionally. She only speak in public, media or social media about her kids accomplishments, promotions of new shows, songs or perfumes and her new hobbies and her humanitarian activities. She's an uncontroversial queen!

Shakira deserved to have her own show as well. She was the highlight in my opinion. Shakira always is humble and doesn't cause drama. This was not the first time a stage was shared. You were lucky Jennifer they asked you to participate.
JLO deserves that stage a lot more than most people and that is fact!!!!! Shakira is great and both deserved the whole halftime. I loved the performance by both but I prefer JLO!!!!!!
Unpopular opinion: I accept Jennifer's argument but to be fair when you watch the show back she spent most of the time on stage 'posing' and just letting the music play out with just dancing and no singing and there were long pauses between transitions. It felt and looked ego driven whereas Shakira just came to have a good time. Shakira managed to make the short time she had work with lots of energy and hasn't complained since. Personally I think she was threatened by Shakira because Shakira has more up to date high energy songs, is super confident without needing validation and can really shake her ass.
Never felt threatened by shakira the contention was never about shakira in the first place. I was in the production process. I hate that vids like this instigate something that never existed.

Case in point and some very recent: Dr. Dre's Superbowl Halftime show was on point and spectacular. Plus, it was legendary--not only for the rap and hip hop community, but also for the black community. Who would have thought those WM men hiding behind their fancy suits would have invited Dr. Dre to headline Halftime? Dre said when he was asked, he knew immediately who he wanted and wasted no time asking/inviting them. Em, Mary, Snoop, 50, Kendrick, and Dre himself were all honored and excited to be sharing the stage with each other. It was actually a historic moment.
Jennifer never said she didn't, she simply said that it was a bad idea. She said it was so much to fit into 6 or 7 minutes. People criticize Jennifer all the time for things she never did or said.

Shakira did the world cup for football which is 20 times bigger than American football. Shakira is a headliner and Jlo isn't. + All i remember from that performance is how incredible Shakira was and i remember nothing from Jlo's performance.

Whoever decided to have both of them on that show only pushed them to work harder to make it work and it’s now one of the BEST Halftime shows of the NFL- my personal opinion.

Whereas the rest of the people who tune in just for the “halftime” show adds to the millions of NFL viewers. She came in with the energy and looked like she was having fun while Jlo just wanted more time to make a political statement which would annoy half the viewers. In the documentary, she said she took offense when the NFL thought they needed TWO latinas instead of one, as if one isn’t enough… in comparison to a single white singer or band such as Maroon 5 the previous year. She never said she didn’t want to share the stage. It actually had nothing to do with that, maybe watch the documentary to collect some insight before commenting.
For one thing all u deluded jlow fans...the theme for this superbowl halftime show was Latin Culture since it was in Miami...that is why they were chosen...however...since when is pole swinging, sliding down the stage with your legs wide open and political statements genuinely part of Latin culture..I really enjoyed Shakira...she is a lady!!

The thing is that jlo probably compared herself to shakira and realized that shakira is AMAZING and that she can’t be better and that most be painful. If she did it by herself all the attention would go to her and no comparisons just compliments but probably not a memorable halftime show, just another one.
They just wanted someone who can really sing and Shakira is a (voice) but also a great performer, Jlo can give good performance, her songs are hits but not a really a voice to enjoy hearing, a voice with abilities ! I personally did not like Jlo's part. I loved Shakira's. I love that her back up dancers seemed to better represent the diversity of Miami. And I like Shakira as a performer better all together.
I agree. I was really excited to see Jlo, but found myself more into Shakira’s performance. Also, around the time Jlo started her Vegas residency, she began to always reprise her hits in a melody whenever she performed on television and it got to the point where as a viewer, we no longer got nostalgic because we watched her perform her hits so many times over the past 6+ years. But the minute we heard Shakira, that rush of nostalgia came in and we got even more excited for the performance. Nevertheless, both performances where great. Shakira’s just hit different for a lot of people.

Jennifer dancers represented the diversity of Miami too lol. Not only her backup dancers but she also brought in an entire dance class filled with hopeful young kids, little Latina kids watching that and seeing they are represented, it was everything. Kids are the future, minority children need to dream and realize anything is possible in this Country with hard work. People of color have to work twice as hard to make it but JLO was telling them you can make it! She invited JBalvin and Bad Bunny, they were so grateful, and thanked her that night with long IG posts.❤️

That's a lie and you didn't watch the documentary. She literally threw shade at the NFL because the kept trying to cut minutes (down from a mere 7 minutes for each performer). Jlo said they needed to allow the artists more time to tell a story with their performances otherwise it would just be singing and ass shaking - which is what the NFL was essentially limiting them to.
Yes she did! She basically said belly dancing is the equivalent of shaking your ass. Belly dancing is much more than getting up there and shaking your butt for the guys. It is an art form. Shakira is a musician and clearly an icon. Jennifer is meh. I'm indian and a musician as well. I grew up on rock music and was completely blown away with Shakira's performance with the guitar of Led Zeppelin's Kashmir. In the music community here in Malaysia, Shakira is admired. Many musicians look up to her. JLO is never mentioned here. Each time I hear JLO, I think of Ashanti. Lol.

Unpopular opinion . Jlo is no longer as big and loved as Shakira. She doesn't have to many memorable songs and the ones she does have are from earlier in her career when she was young. Most of her fanbase are older people, Shakiras fanbase is of all ages and she has a lot more well known songs through the years not just her youth.

The crying had nothing to do with the Super Bowl or ever the Oscar snub it was when she was reading something someone wrote about her being an underrated actress, which she is. The Oscars need to have an overhaul done. Too many, especially women, people of color are not getting nominated by the academy when they have ground breaking performances. Aquafina and Lupita both gave amazing performances in film that year and neither were nominated. All white women in JLO's category!!!!

@@Harryet370 Sorry for the comment then. Please do not hate on JLO though she is the bomb. She was not saying anything against Shakira. If you haven't watched the documentary then please do. Everyone always tries to twist what she says and does. For JLO fans it got old long ago and still tends to put us in fight mode. Again I apologize for what I said. Please stay on the path of standing up for yourself and speaking out, but please try and weed out the truth from the lies and rumors.
Jlo is entitled. She had a few hit songs in the 80's but she;s relevant. Prince deserved that solo gig at half time and got it. Many famous musicals shared half time and that's what made the show great. Only a few good performers deserve a solo. Not Jlo
JLo is a diva. If she didn't want to share the stage she should have declined to do the show. She wanted more time. Give me a break, it's the Superbowl, people are there for the game not the entertainment, goes to show she thinks she's more important than the teams playing. Trying to bring in politics into halftime rubs me the wrong way. She should get over herself.
I really enjoyed this documentary. And I think I did so even more partly because I knew nothing about it until I seen it appear on Netflix out of nowhere, so it was a nice surprise. She definitely seemed authentic and honest, which was refreshing. She and Shakira should have had their own slot on different years, they've earned that! Interesting when the doc mentioned the owner of the NFL being a Republican/Trump donor whilst Jennifer was being told the cages weren't wanted "from the highest order". And love even more that she gave a big🖕🏻and did it anyway.
JLo and Shakira are two powerhouse entertainers, and each deserved her *own* Superbowl Halftime Show. I am not surprised that the racist and hypocritical NFL and media did not understand that. The view of Latinas being only discount working women was reflected in the NFL's two-for-the-price-of-one approach to this show. The media is complicit in JLo's and Shakira's poor treatment by it's silence, and then joining in to slam JLo when she and her manager Benny Medina had the audacity speak out against the poor treatment by the NFL. I do wish Shakira joined in to speak out about the treatment. She is doing herself and other Latinas a disservice by not speaking out. These two Latinas are smart and hard-working forces to be reckonded with. Ultimately, in spite of the poor treatment by the NFL, these two women gave the best and most memorable Superbowl Halftime Shows ----- and made the NFL a lot of money.
@@AvalonMagiqueit wasn't up to the NFL...they were chosen by JayZ to represent Latino culture...pole dancing and sliding down the stage with your legs wide open is not representative of any culture except cheap and taudry...so quit blaming the NFL...it was wrong to bring politics into this...in fact a disgrace...I loved Shakira who can dance and sing...couldn't stand the other raunchy dancer who can't sing!!!
@@Irishgui83 I really do not care what u think...the NFL did not think it was appropriate to do the caged children which I have to agree...the halftime show is not nor has it ever been about politics..only entertaining the crowd for a few minutes...that's all...her and her mgr overreacted and made it sound so bad...well neither of them is very nice...but the NFL has every right to object...it's their ballgame!!!
I think Jen’s point is she wanted to do it alone given the limited amount of time allotted. 6 minutes..That’s tough. She wanted to be the well deserved front runner. They both gave a fantastic performance no argument there.
Jennifer Lopez not a good singer. She doesn't write her own music . It isn't a Latina issue or a female issue . She just isn't talented enough for own superbowl show . She is just jealous that Shakira was so much better then her . I am so embarrassed for JLO.

Just saw this documentary and was blown away!! This woman works SO hard!! Both women deserved to have their own halftime shows! Period! When you see the documentary you see how difficult it was to try do something meaningful, with substance, and TRY to fit songs in that will also please the fans! There was just not enough time given for TWO superstars with tons of hit songs! And then you have the NFL producers and Trump supporters telling you what you can and can not do!! AND trying to make changes to what you worked feverishly to create!! Omg!! I can’t even imagine the stress level and frustration!! And again, when you see the documentary you see why she says it’s the worst idea ever!! It’s not that she’s being a “ diva” it’s because it’s SO hard to do what she’s trying to do, when you can only do 60 seconds of a song in the time provided!! IMPOSSIBLE! I thought this halftime show was one of the best ones in years, and I have a whole new appreciation for it and Jennifer Lopez after seeing how hard she worked to create and put this show together. MAJOR respect for her and her team. GREAT documentary!! 👍🏼
oh boo hoo...goodness what a cry baby...honestly she should act her age and be honored for being chosen...the time aspect is what every halftime show has....she is so shallow...no one else has ever complained...boy she got u hook, line and sinker!!!...and her wanting more than 60 seconds is a joke...she should have eliminated the pole dancing (which has nothing to do with latin culture) and the stupid children's part...Shakira is far more responsible and her portion was utterly fantastic!!

To be honest, Jennifer should be happy to even be working. So many celebrities have no jobs since the pandemic. I say quit complaining and be happy doors are still open for you.
No one else in the history of the Superbowl halftime show has complained...it's only a short break for entertainment in a Championship Football game...goodness jlow...get a grip...who cares how u felt...nobody...absolutely nobody!!!
