@Born In Shithole Country Just saw this comment... Are you out of your mind? Or do you just like being controversial/conspirical? I certainly hope it's the latter, because if this is being said with complete seriousness, I fear for you.
@Born In Shithole Country sorry. not trying to disrespect. i may not be as normie as you think. i just think that holzhauer seemed pretty legit and dont think that trebek and the jeopardy staff would ruin the integrity of their show that has 30+ years under their belt for a 30 episode ratings spike. plus i like holzhauer so i didnt love the seemingly unfounded hate
James is brutal, "Well first I want to give a shoutout to Scott's mom because I understand that she doesn't normally tune into the show but she's watching for me tonight, so hi out there". That was classic......
People often forget about Brad Rutter. He has never lost to a human, including Ken Jennings. I think a match between James, Ken, & Brad would be the best game in Jeopardy history. Make it a 1 week affair.
@@ganrice2984 never was counted. In fact, here's what's reported about that: Rutter first appeared on "Jeopardy!" when he was only 22 years old, in 2000. Rutter defeated Ken Jennings in three tournaments, and, in fact has never been defeated by a human (only by the IBM super-computer Watson in 2011, and that was in exhibition match) Source: www.thisisinsider.com/jeopardy-winners-most-won-2018-9#brad-rutter-4385702-9
@@ASAP17 i do watch dumbass, being good at trivia doesn't make you a genius. and he's not the first contestant to jump around the board looking for the daily doubles
@@ZombieZifiction While it's true that knowing a lot of facts doesn't make one a genius, in the age of ignorance, that's certainly something to admired. Besides, knowing a lot of facts can only help you to win arguments and any other rational feat one chooses to partake against the less knowledgeable plebs such as yourself.
@@CumBrianFries still doesn't make you a genius. i never said he wasn't a genius. but being good at jeopardy isn't strong evidence someone's a genius dipshit
This guy is amazing, have been watching him on Jeopardy since day one, once he gets control of the board it's tough taking it back. He seems to have knowledge on every subject!!!!
Cheryl, I am right there with you. What I love about him is his humility and super easy going nature. The fact that nothing seems to shake him. I have noticed that he is willing to go all in in the first round but then becomes more strategic in Double Jeopardy. Your observation that he is always in control is so TRUE. Great contestant... hope he's around a lot longer. I have family in Vegas and would love to run into him just walking down the street. Big thanks to Scott for bringing us this interview.
Me too! Haven't missed an episode since he has been on. He is so fun to watch....his knowledge is mind boggling, his trigger finger, AND his betting! So much fun!
I understand that they have already taped all of these shows we are now watching, but I do hope that he continues to win and doesn't get bored or just want to walk away and give other a shot.
That fake ass cheesy smile at the end was hilarious. I play poker for a living and like all professional gamblers we understand more than most the significance behind making positive expected value (+EV) decisions and the inevitable short term variance that goes with that. I'm currently down $625 my last 20 hours of play. But up $5500 over the 130 hours before. Most people will say...wow, I'd hate to lose $625. But they can't wrap it around their heads that I'm up $4875 after 150 hours, or that I'm averaging $32.50 an hour regardless of any short term downswings.
As a Las Vegas resident too, this run is capturing the eyeballs of many in this town. I know the shows are already taped and in the can. But I marvel at watching someone who has mastered a game I've been watching since I was a kid and the host was Art Fleming!
Perhaps one of the most impressive things about Holzhauer is how media savvy he is. More actually, than most people more familiar with that world. He does not let anyone, including Alex Trebek, dictate his own narrative to him. If someone is going down a track that is misinformed or that he doesn't like, he immediately redirects to his advantage. Perfectly legitimate, and admirable. After all, he's the subject, so he should own his own reality. The media, in general, always tries to put its own words in people's mouths, and most people, though knowing the distortion, are conditioned to this, which has gone on for far too long now, or intimidated by it, give in, and are used and abused. Holzhauer is not only smart, he's a good guy, and he takes no shit.
Yep he's all those things you mentioned . .but he's also a ringer..A professional gambler and a trivia nerd. Also a former game show trivia winner on "The Beast" (2014?). The show (jepardy) is now boring. You know his strategy . .and his gambler tactics... And you know the shows outcome ( holzhauer has a $20k+lead smh) The other two everyday trivia nerd contestants don't think like a gambler (holzhauer quote "it's only money") so going up against him is too uneven to be interesting.
@@ceeedwards8453 Do you think he'll keep playing for like a year or more?? I mean where's this going..I can't see him losing, will they just kick him off at some point? Or maybe he'll step down after getting to like 10 million??
A couple of things stand out about James Holzhauer: First, he shows no signs of being in the least bit affected by his near-instant wealth and fame. How rare is that in the 2019 United States? One gets the feeling he could lose tomorrow and he would still be talking in the same self-effacing, carefree way about his work and family, which are what his life is all about. Second, bright as he is, he describes himself as a "low-culture" person, interested in things young people are into these days, even as he knocks off questions on Yeats and Keats, world geography or history with instant recall. For these reasons alone, we need to study this wunderkind. Somewhere therein, there is a lesson for all of us.
To know if he shows signs of being affected by his jeopardy experience, you must first know his behaviors before the jeopardy experience. Nonetheless, I get what you are saying.
Impossible to break Jennings win record. He's way to aggressive and at some point that will cost him. It is possible that he catches him in $$$$$$ and I think thats the focus
Brad Rutter has the most game show winnings AND Jeopardy! winnings. Ken Jennings is #2. James is 3rd. However, Brad's winning streak was under the old 5-day limit.
He's a very modern genius. People think he speaks "differently" or slower ...thats because he actually thinks before speaking. Were trained not to do that mostly..just blab on about whatever comes to mind. He actually takes the time to think of what he wants to say before speaking, unfortunately a lot of people these days dont do that. He's just next level, but only human. Who cares about the money, this guy is teaching people a lesson.
They want to know how he wins. Mainly because he just knows the answers. My brother, Jack, had an eidetic memory. My guess is James does too. They remember everything they ever read. Facts especially. Cool.
Good for him!! And what a refreshing piece of news. This is much better than anything related to the government. Keep it up!!! PS I wish I had the ability to retain that much information when I was younger. This guy has mad skills!!
This is a joke. Nothing on tv is real, and if you had some "discernment" and watch his actions on "the show" you would be able to see, they were feeding him the answers. So, does he have the face of a genius, Genius? No, he doesn't!
Johnny yuma, what does being a genius have to do with great memorization? Alfred Einstein used to insist the key to intelligent thought was not memorizing anything...
@@stevenmitchell1 Go watch the shows. They were feeding him the answers. And if you can't see it, you are a fool. This asshole is no genius, just like 99% of the population.
So much is said about his strategy of taking high dollar value clues first and being quick on the buzzer and risking his whole bank on Daily Doubles. Those are all very true, but he is also incredibly knowledgeable on a vast amount of subjects, way more than his opponents. He has no weaknesses.
Apparently, you haven't been watching from day one, because he has said he does have a weakness {as far as categories go,} I think he said it's Ballet.
Imagine being the pathetic people who call the show boring right now. It amazes me how people try to bring down people who are successful. This guy makes jeopardy fun. I love seeing someone dominate so much that people actually have to get better to beat him. Here's a thought, things in life dont always come easy why dont these negative people actually try to earn something.
@@davejenn6051 that's how some people are. They hate that people in the world succeed while they are too lazy to accomplish anything. I think what hes doing is fun to watch
@@davejenn6051 I will be happy to go one on one with him, but he can't be given the answers. Sorry that you can't see this is all designed to get people to watch jeopardy while Alex is alive.
@@climbnride58 Steve,. James is a faithful husband and loving father. He us not interested in a homosexual affair with you or anyone else. So you need to be happy going One On One with someone else.
James is used to betting with a 54% chance to win. So far on Jeopardy he's gotten 92.5% of his daily doubles right, and 93.8% on Final Jeopardy. With those stats, he's actually betting kind of conservatively.
@kevin smith I see your reasoning,. But respectfully disagree. Notice that on Friday he bet conservatively in final Jeopardy in order to win, So he won 50k for being right He would have been at 10k if he was wrong. . 2nd place would have been at $9600 if she had the right answer.
@kevin smith I don't have the balls to be a gambler. I'm to scared of losing what I worked to hard to get for my family. In the military I wouldn't jump out of a perfectly good plane either.
No, it's not conservative at all when you consider in Final he normally bets enough to maximize his winnings with a correct answer while insuring a return to play the next game with an incorrect answer. Betting any more in those cases would risk a loss, which would potentially end the gravy train altogether. There's a difference between being conservative and not being foolish.
You are a venture capitalist don't let them call you a "gambler" Always associated with "drunkenness". Your a national treasure. I'm always excited by your appearances. Glenn
You can't read too much into what he's saying. He's no doubt signed an NDA for one thing, so he has to choose his words carefully. Also, "right now" is when all the episodes are airing and he is continuing to break records every episode. So "right now" he is in the thick of all the hype - whether he is currently still competing or not. He is making the rounds on all the talk shows, so it would make sense that Jeopardy would be his "world right now" regardless.
Ken Jennings won 74 in a row and won $2.5 million. James Holzhauer has won 14 in a row and has won $1.3 million. He won about 1/2 the total in 1/5 of the games as Jennings.
sports bettors keep their info close to the chest. the few suspect "courses" you see on the internet all cost money and who knows how great the info will be.
Whether he is genius, or a savant, is debatable. And "buzzer skills" will only get you so far. What strikes me is that he seems to have a remarkable memory. It's not so much that he is a trivia expert or that his educational background is that extensive or advanced. It's that he seems to be able to quickly recall almost everything he has ever read or come across. When you know that your almost assuredly going to know the answer (or question in this case), why not "press" that edge, as he would put it.
@@stevenmitchell1 he doesn't claim hes a genius; he actually said the opposite in this interview. However, there is a correlation between having an exceptional memory/working memory and IQ
I wonder what plans after he breaks Ken Jennings record? After that he needs to give all of us a break from his jeopardy success. Give others a chance. Retire from jeopardy.
@@l.ls.8890 Seriously you can't compare the styles of the two of them. James is like go big or go home. Jennings was cautious and do what you had to do to win. His last regular game exemplified that. James will return for years to come in tournament of champions, and may or may not kick ass because of his style...
Dave Jenn Yeah like last night betting that 6800 dollars. I noticed Alex seems to be deliberately distracting him by interjecting comments before he answers. He also a very hood speller.
To non gamblers or anyone confused. SVP low key asked him "are you a blackjack card counter" and James said yes. If you are good enough to have a 54% edge against the house where you normally are only 48% and have the bankroll...you are gonna be very rich
@@JM-rd6rq Jasmine Velasquez 1000% if you know anything about counting cards the talk they had was literally about counting cards. that's why SVP was talking so cryptically.... a group of counters. What's the max bet at the table. James talks about how long can he sit there without them burning him...(realize he's counting and kick him out...
@@JM-rd6rq No, he was just talking about standard sports gambling. If you win 54% of your sports bets, you are profiting. 53% or less is actually a loss since the sportsbook takes juice on every wager. When he said "burning me" he was referring to sportsbooks that actually ban certain bettors because they win too much. Idk why this guy thought they were talking blackjack when they clearly weren't lol
We already know from the show that he is weak on the category of "Ballet." I don't think he was deflecting the question. He was just trying to work in the fact that he is not some super-intellectual; he is just Joe Six-Pack who happens to have a broad knowledge on a bunch of subjects. That's why he mentioned he knows a lot about WWE and guitar rock.
Yea pretty suspect, as someone who actually gambles pretty heavy if you ask basic questions its very easy to at least vague answers about what you have the most success with. Not like he was being asked for direct picks
I wonder what kind of risk-taker his wife is. Let's face it, if most people went on a date with a guy and asked what he did for a living and he said "professional gambler", they'd probably hit the bricks. I bet she's a super interesting person in her own right.
If I was on a game show there is no way in Hell I would clap for my opponent. If they get a "Bankrupt" on "Wheel of Fortune" I would say, "YES! Give me that wheel and I will show you how it's done." If they miss a "Daily Double" on "Jeopardy" I would yell, "GREAT! Take that!" Could you imagine if this was done in pro sports. Bryce Harper hits a home run off of Jake Arrieta and Arrieta starts clapping and saying, "Good job, Harper! Way to go!"?
John, your BRILLIANT! Not because you agree with me... but because you actually UNDERSTAND why I made that statement, thank you so much for your UNDERSTANDING of what I said
