The tall, dark , handsome Jeremy Brett was a supreme actor and a man who overcame illness, disability and loss to leave a unique body of work, unprecedented and unequalled. RIP Mr Brett. You deserve to.
I was startled when Mr Brett brought up Faure's beautiful "Requiem". It is my favorite of all requiems ever composed...so lovely, so deeply passionate and mysterious...you see, I played my own disc of it for my own beloved after he died, hoping he could hear it in Heaven. God bless the sweet and glorious memory of the magnificent Mr Jeremy Brett. He was exquisite. He was a beautiful force of nature. He....made the air move. Oh, I miss him!😢
What a charismatic and engaging man. I only know him from the Sherlock Holmes series and a couple other recorded performances, all of which were excellent. It's clear that he put everything he had into his craft and strove to do honor to the material and his audiences. He was also an excellent singer. I wish that I had a chance to see him perform in a play - his stage presence must have been mesmerizing.
A few years before his death. You can hear his heavy breathing due to his heavy smoking and inefficient heart valves which was due to Rheumatic fever as a child. The best Holmes ever imo.
Absolutely technically the best. He promised Conan Doyles niece he would stay as close to the text as possible, to the point of upending a restaurant table when confronted with a wooden headed director (my personal favorite JB story “Dover Sole went everywhere!”)
In a way it almost doesn't matter that Jeremy Brett was so complicated, because he is Holmes to many of us. I am amazed and grateful that he was so invested in the character of Holmes that many of us can envision no other in the part. He was a man of talent, possibly robbed of the success he deserved in MFL and other roles, until later in life. I am forever a fan. ETA Joan, as a part of WGBH definitely was an influence on my early life (masterpiece theatre) which probably led me to my love of Brett and Sherlock.
Jeremy underlines the fact that the 60s & 70s were indeed the most amazing times in the arts - possibly the greatest in the last 100 years. Hopefully, when this present pandemic subsides, we shall see a flourishing and re-birth of the arts. 2021 could be the beginning of a new age. This programme was a joy to listen to.
What a special treat to hear Mr. Brett tell of his childhood, career and life in his own words! A truly remarkable gentleman and actor. Thank you for sharing this most interesting interview.
An extraordinary Actor - Jeremy Brett's portrayal of Sherlock Holmes with Granada's (then) modern production standards remain unequalled imo & hooked me as a teenager in the 1980's.
What a candid interview ! Mr. Brett left the world so early. What a refined artiste he is ! Take good care of your health this time. Love you Sherlock and love your Maxim De Winter😘
Such a noble, loving, romantic soul. An absolute feast to watch (as Holmes, haven't seen any other of his performances except my fair lady) and a delicious treat to listen to him in this interview.
Oh Deus!.como gostaria de entender o que diz essa maravilha de homem, de ator , desse Holmes que só agora conheci. Saber que já faleceu foi duro. Por que não aprendi inglês para entendê- lo? Apaixonada por um morto. Pode? Pode quando supera expectativas. Amo Jeremy Brett
And why couldn't we hear some of Leontyne Price... especially in place of that flawed voice of Maria Callas!!! I have never heard a Desert Island Disc program with the music cut down to just a few seconds instead of minutes! In a word: Ridiculous...
@@harrickvharrick3957 They used make up and many tricks to make him look like Sherlock Holmes and what you see it is Jeremy Brett for real from "A roll with Jeremy Brett" by Marcus Tylor. There are more photos from that photo shoot. Many people who saw him in reality where shocked because of the lovely and beautiful man in front of them who looked different from him as seen on the screen as Sherlock Holmes.

Perhaps, but I believe he made a choice to emphasize the good in the world at that time. Despite the challenges and tragedies that he dealt with in his life, he still demonstrated a great hunger for enjoying it to the fullest. In the same way he spoke about his wife, Joan, we won't see the likes of him again. Nevertheless we can still enjoy his legacy even in these troubled times.
