I thought Jeremy Brett was the perfect Sherlock Holmes...His manner,mysteriousness, slightly arrogant and ever so elegant..perfection..David Burke was equally good...Perfect balance...I could watch the episodes again and again and still find them fascinating.

Incredible! To see him so quickly explain which pipe goes with which mood of holmes and on which occasions he wore certain attire, really shows just how personally he took the role. Every moment of him as holmes is thrilling.

A wonderful actor. He made Sherlock a "real" person. I still feel Sherlock and Dr Watson are still at 221B Baker Street today.

That interviewer was totally wrong with everything he said about Jeremy's portrayal of Holmes. Jeremy said he tried to bring spirituality to the character, and I feel that he succeeded. He gave the character humanity and a manic genius. Jeremy was an intelligent, sensitive, exceptional person. A master actor, he will continue to entertain generations to come as Holmes.

Jeremy Brett is soo good at playing Holmes to the point that I'm seeing him even now "as" Holmes as a living person in this very interview.

I have to say that Jeremy bread let you in and there was nothing else but his role is Sherlock Holmes it was so efficient and so excellent I'm so real that you just couldn't wait to see him act even though it didn't seem like he was acting at all it seems like he was really Sherlock Holmes I miss his generation so much but I'm glad there's a way to view him as Sherlock Holmes and I'm quite thankful and yes some of the things he says in his interviews are really true I've experienced the end of errors in my life where things like he said we're no biggie they were normal which they're not now you can't say thank you to Jeremy bread but I can appreciate his talent

Great respect for this man. I love his portrayal of Holmes. Such a real actor , no wonder he looks like a legend in comparison to this day n age actors who in their turn look like complete amateurs no matter what the cost of the movie or CGI..so sad he left this world before his time.

Isn't it refreshing to see an interview with an intelligent actor who gives interesting insights into the character he is playing and the difficulties in performing the part. I watched an interview some time back with Anthony Hopkins regarding his role as Hannibal Lectre. The summation of Hopkins' commentary as to why Lectre was so popular was the banal observation that everyone loves a boogieman. The fact that Lectre was a singular man of great depth and intellect apparently doesn't count.

Despite him being a bit off base with his Holmes analysis here...I have very fond memories of Mike Morris...even today, when I think of a standard 'look' for a male breakfast television host he seem's to just be the image in my head...all side partings and pull overs...which is silly really because its not like that at all now...I also forgot how strange his pronunciation is...he says 'sycophantically' as if its 'psychophantically'! Don't want them sycophantic psychos around! Anyhoo...also good to see Jeremy looking well here and being so polite and urbane as usual.

Christopher Plummer played Sherlock Holmes in the 1979 film Murder By Degree, set in 1888 the time of the Jack the Ripper murders. James Mason starred as Watson who played the part very well and was not portrayed as the stereo typical buffoon as some versions have made him out to be. This film if you have not seen it is well worth watching,as Holmes pits his detectives brain to bring Jack the Ripper to justice, the sound track music to the film really gives you a feeling of what Victorian London must have been like at the time. This film can be watched in full on You Tube. Enjoy.

Such a gentleman. Manners maketh man. The interviewer implied characteristics of Brett's Holmes with which I disagree.
@lesleywilcox
@lesleywilcox Год назад
Starting with his statement that he played Holmes just this side of evil. Ummm... No. The one thing he did do is try to explore any mental health issues Holmes may have had as he had his own personal battles with MH. He will always be THE Holmes and was obviously influenced by the books. I was very against Benedict Cumberbatch, at first especially as he goes by Sherlock - Holmes hated his first name - but he grew on me. Like Jeremy Brett, he's an extraordinary actor but I could see a lot of Brett in his Holmes. Then, I read an interview where he confirmed that fact and praised Brett. One thing I always noticed, probably because I love them too, is Brett could never keep his hands off any horse close to him. That endeared him even more to me.

Jeremy Brett was a brilliant Sherlock... loved JB's roles... but as sad as it is, he has passed on and there is room for new Sherlock's.. I think Robert Downy Jr. as Sherlock and Jude Law as Dr. Watson are a very good pair to play the infamous duo.
@soniavadnjal7553

Yes, however, Brett is in a class of his own. Compared to his performance, those of others, though adequate or interesting, appear superficial.

Actually, he probably did smoke opium at some point to. During that era in London, it was not uncommon for men to visit opium dens to smoke, and since Holmes' work often thrust him into the dregs of society, he most likely had some experience with the drug. Though, he was not addicted to it as he was to his cocaine. ...sorry for the geeking out...history major and all...^^

Can anyone remember who in Jeremy's family actually shares the surname Brett ?
@MarilynCrosbie
@MarilynCrosbie 10 лет назад
No one that I know of. He took that name from the label in one of his suit jackets that was made by Brett company. His real surname is Huggins, so his family would go by Huggins.
@johnking5174
@johnking5174 9 лет назад
googdb82 Jeremy's father did not want him using the family name on stage, apparently he thought acting was not a profession one should be in, so Jeremy changed his surname to Brett. It has nothing to do with any family names, actually it was the name of the label off his first suit made by "Brett and Co".
@VeronikaPol
@VeronikaPol 9 лет назад
John King Well, actually although otherwise you're completely right, he didn't even changed his surname to Brett. He always signed himself Huggins on official papers and his son is David Raymond William Huggins and his lovely grandchildren are Dan and Iris Huggins, So the name goes in the family.
