@@Srb1973. What’s so funny? It is true. The King is the embodiment of the country. To pay allegiance to the sovereign, is to pay allegiance to the country.
@@Halal_Lettuce He absolutely is not the embodiment of the country - no-one is. That's meaningless sycophantic adulation and hyperbole. Charles is an aristocrat whose family has held a role in defiance of democracy for centuries... Long overdue to get rid.

It’s worth noting Jeremy and the Queen had many meetings Even before he became leader of the Labour Party and it seems they quite liked each other and it’s said the queen was very fond of Jeremy. Tbf most people like him as a person because he is genuinely kindhearted and compassionate.
I do believe that is true .One of Mr Corbyn' s shadow cabinet - I think it might have been Tom Watson remarked in an interview that JC told him they got on like a house on fire for the simple reason that during the meetings the main thrust of the conversations were about dogs and gardening and not politics .
Yeah sure, just a pathological liar like the rest of them. Brought disrepute to the Labour Party for allowing death threats to his own Party members from within his party go on unabated such a sweet kind hearted man - you need to go and see a mental health professional if that is your synopsis of this dangerous Marxist maniac.
It seems archaic. Surely an MP's duty is to their constituents rather than the king? I don't have anything against Charles, but I don't see how he's relevant to Corbyn's role.
It’s not an affirmation of duty it’s of allegiance, so the choices are the King (like him or not he is at least a real person), or God, who, let’s face it doesn’t actually exist.
I know that Labour are famed for missing people out but remember when they said they'd hit the floor running. What they failed to do was mention the words in and reverse!
He ain't wrong. It is nonsense. They should be taking an oath on the best interest of the country and its people and to not allow foreign countries to fund their pockets in their interest instead eg Israel!
The King embodies the state just like a president does in other countries. Britain doesn’t have an official constitution. Also give us all a break with the Israel stuff ffs
Funny the way everywhere has reported this to try and catch him out and every single comment section is full of people agreeing with him, even those who don’t like him 😂
It is worse than nonsense, an hereditary monarchy is totally indefensible in a democratic system. The peoples representatives should swear allegiance to the constitution of a modern democratic republic. In the meantime all hereditary titles should be taxed, an hereditary title has monetary value and is obtained by mere accident of birth.
You are trying to destroy what you do not understand, what most of us barely understand. It does you no great harm, so let the Monarchy be. Countries with no Monarchies are not better of.

Not a new issue, Eamon de valera leader of the first opposition party leader in Ireland refused to take the oath. He was refused the right to take his seat in the Irish Parliament until 1927, when he signed the oath and declared it to be a worthless piece of paper.

Because the UK's path to prosperity is in our security and predictability. London is one of (if not *the*) finance centre of the world because nothing much changes - no radical revolutions are likely to happen, and our institutions are old and secure - the foremost of which is the monarchy. I'm not even a monarchist, and I agree that in principle it's unfair and archaic - however it's the biggest sign of our long term stability, and the pomp and circumstance we put up with pay dividends.
Good news! Royalty isn't part of the governing process. But they do a hell of a lot of service for the government and help bring in a ton of money, so you should be pleased with the current situation.
Leave Jeremy Corbyn alone for God sake!!! Dark forces never stop demonising him??? He is the most genuine and authentic politician! Politicians are all liars and cheats... who only care to become prime minister... all of them with one exception Jeremy Corbyn! I never vote, but I would certainly certainly go and vote for a really genuine human being like Jeremy Corbyn. You listen to all the other politicians and they all sound the same, using the same rhetorics over and over again... they sound like we'll trained robots...! Anyway support those who are constantly attacked by politicians!
Actually, Jeremy Corbyn is right! And not for the first time. Most people choose not to believe in God, therefore the process of taking an Oath becomes totally irrelevant. So, yes, for people who do not have faith, it is a load of nonsense. But - and this is the important bit - if these individuals are simply going along with the tradition but are not committed (for example, to telling the truth!) where does that leave any sense of justice and truth by those who seek to govern us? Sadly, it is all meaningless. Like so much of the British pomp and ceremony......
@@loockedfrenchtv7189 No, he doesn't. Don't be ridiculous. He owns Sandringham and Balmoral, both purchased with embezzled public funds. Nobody owns another person, even Britain isn't that backward.
I wish they'd make more of a point of it, though. Turning up, pledging to work on behalf of their constituents, but pointedly refusing to pledge allegiance to the British monarch. They'd have a lot of support.
I don't think it is. It is important that every MP openly tells the rest of us that at least formally they swear to serve the rest of us under the rules of the constitutional monarchy. One could easily imagine some git coming in with the blatant intention to serve a religion, ideology or some foreign power. Could they lie? Sure, nothing is ever a sure thing.

I used to really dislike Corbyn but now I see the media lied terribly about him. I still disagree with him on many, many things. Glad he's still around though.
He's right. This ridiculous oath is also preventing Sinn Fein from representing their constituents at Westminster. I doubt if any other parliament requires it.
The oath "prevents" no one newly elected. Are you suggesting the good people of N Ireland are not bound by the same monarch and part of the United Kingdom?
