My Mom grew up in her earliest years at 28th and Tasker. After my Grandfather got established he bought a storefront house near Amber and Cambria in Kensington, late 1920's, and by that time Kensington and Fishtown were getting more homogeneous, all the white Nationalities were sharing the neighborhoods.
Sorry Jerry, you're wrong about Fairmount! My family lived there for over 100 years. They saw the Art Museum being built. Our neighborhood was Irish, Italian, Ukrainian, Polish, and German. The churches on the corners were St Francis (Irish & Italian), St Hedwig's (Polish), and St Nick's (Ukrainian). Today only St Francis and St Nick's are still there. St Hedwig's was knocked down and is now apartments. There has always been a black church at 23rd and Aspen but I can't remember the name of it. Love you and all that you do. Saw you many, many years ago the day before Thanksgiving around 1979 in NJ. Stay well!
