Getting old really sucks. We start losing people around us. I lost my beautiful kind selfless mother a month ago. I love you Mom ❤️❤️❤️ and miss your laughter, your jokes, your kindness.
I first met him back in the mid 80s when I was working in the TV repair shop he had been a long time customer and would come in with his equipment. I got to know him in a sense to say hi if I saw him and he was generally a pretty nice guy and he would tell me where he was playing and say hey why don't you come down and watch me I'm playing at the legion or wherever he might have been playing that time. I knew he wasn't doing well for the last couple years, as I know one of the guys that had been in his backup band told me that he was a retiring due to health reasons and that was maybe 5 years ago.
Sad loss. Back when I was doing a lot of sound and lighting work, one of my frequent co-workers was a guy who spent a few years on the road doing lights for Doucette back in the "Douce Is Loose " is days.
@@12voltvids Yea Dave, please take care of you and yours too! Thanks for everything you do here to hopefully, pass it on to the next generation ...in 25 years or so. lol
Ya I know the sound sucks on the first show. Sound guy had the PA turned to 12. For those wondering the camera used was a Sony HDR-FX1 3 CCD HDV tape based camera.
Used to be in a band with a ex drummer of his, the drummer from the mama let him play tune. My girlfriend at the time told me that that drummer called her one night and she was certain that he was drunk and apparently beating off in the background during the call.. The band broke up at the very next gig as I decided to make a example of him while on stage. I also know that sax player Mr Hermiston who's name was just mentioned. He used to play with Herman's hermits. My mom's best friend was married to that sax player. I remember him being a mean bastard as a kid when we visited.. He eventually committed suicide after he was ripping off his own mom who he was supposed to be her trustee during her final autumn years. Jerry was a good guy and a great musician and wasn't aware of such actions of others who had worked with him however. I looked up to him and studied his style of blues oriented rock. He will live on through his art.
I heard about Jerry's passing today too. Sad news. He was also known outside of Canada. Mama Let Him Play is still in regular rotation on KSHE-95 in St. Louis, MO and other stations around the mid-west. We also know about other Canadian gems like Chilliwack, Prism, Trooper along with the big guys like Triumph, BTO, Guess Who and of course Rush. I think Jerry Doucette was what got me collecting records back in the day. I went to the record store to buy the Mama Let Him Play LP and the guy says it out of print. I said what the hell is out of print? I never realized you couldn't just order whatever the store didn't stock, LOL. Anyway, he put me on a list and a couple of weeks went by and he called me to let me know he got 2 copies in, one sealed and one mint. I purchased the sealed one and still have it along with The Douce is Loose, 2 versions of Mama Let Him Play on CD, a compilation of Jerry and recently The Douce is Loose on CD. After finding out stuff goes out of print, I try to buy everything I like! Good thing I don't like much new music! RIP Jerry!
I saw Jerry in North Van in the 80's was a great show. I also did some computer consulting for Duris Maxwell (his original drummer) who had become a lawyer! RIP!
Cancer sucks! I'm very sorry about your loss but I'm sure that even if you do get a copyright claim, he would've been happy that you've uploaded this. RIP Jerry!
@@TheVCRKing I meant to post this many years ago. I shot the video on HD tape and put the tape in a box and forgot about it. When I heard the news I thought about it and had to go looking for the tapes.
Thanks for posting these Dave. Glad you've recorded and saved them. Will try sending the songs through my dac and stereo. Should improve the sound...thanks again man, another one down but not forgotten.
I have a few "Seeds of Time" singles - cherished Canadian blues rock - he did join the band after the singles though.. and they turned into ROCKET NORTON BAND.. RIP Jerry -
Very sorry to hear this. I am unfamiliar with his music but this clip shows perhaps I ought to have been. And a very tight band indeed, all clearly having a great time. Feel so sorry for them too. Must have hit them real hard. Life sucks sometimes, sincere condolences and RIP.
