I was standing right in front of him this whole show. Tripping balls. He looked into my eyes many times.... channeling my trip. Or so I imagined. It was one the greatest memories of my life.
Ah yes, the 25 minute Shining Star. It felt like it would go on for the whole second set. Jerry felt the LOVE from the audience, and integrated it into his rendition. Such a unique gift that has been replicated, but never duplicated.
This one is special. Skipped school, drove 7 hours with best friend and got this. He passed several years back but I still remember our amazement watching Jerry and the band do this one. Never forget.
Jerry’s playing was more than a show. It was an invitation, to follow him along wherever he decided to go, and it was pure magic. I wept through this after listening 4 times in a row. I hear whale calls through the the depths. Just astounding beauty. I miss him. No one does what he did or even comes close.
That’s well said! I agree 1,000%! I’ve been so many places with Jerry, so far off in the woods and weeds, Miles out at sea, outer space, and right up to the edge when I wondered how we were getting back, but I always knew we would! He was an adventurer and welcomed us along! We were so lucky!!❤
Laura, the image of whale calls is fantastic - I agree with description and Jerry loved scuba diving. His high treble sound I sometimes describe as a sound coming thru a stone tunnel. I love the whale image - sublime !
I was at this show. Watching this made me cry. Damn, I miss this band so much. The crowd did not want it to end. This was one of the best moments of my life.
This was shot right in front of me. This was and will always be my favorite thing I've ever seen live. It still gives me the feels 25+ years later. To have this video basically shot from my exact vantage point it doesn't get more perfect than that. The crowd and band switching back and fort at the end is some special stuff getting to watch Jerry have fun on stage towards the end didn't happen much fist pump smiles and yeses! Thanks for the best times of my life. #RIPJerry
He will one day be revered as much as Mozart and Beethoven. How lucky we’ve been to share the planet with such a human! I’ll never stop loving the man, his music, and who he was.
@@72darkstr I know for Deadheads, it may be hard to fathom; but you're 100% correct. He was absolutely positively underappreciated by the uninitiated, the uninformed, the non- cognoscenti, the Great Unwashed he's completely underrated and totally underappreciated !!!
That show was amazing on so many levels. What a night. Hampton was always special. That night was otherworldly. Thank you to all I went with. You know who you are.
Yooh Ira, the one person that gave a thumbs down comes from the faraway country called Rimarimba. They do things a little different there. A thumbs down there means actually a thumb up in the west. So, at the moment of writing this video with beautiful music has 101 thumbs up an NO thumbs down!
I was in the same room as Jerry a couple hundred times. I saw a few Shining Star’s. They were all beyond words. I wasn’t at Hampton for this one. This one is so good it could cause world peace to break out if everyone would just listen….. and maybe humm
That feeling of laughing and crying at the same time so moved by the otherworldly majestic power and beauty pouring forth from him. A Shedder of Light A Bringer of Dawn A High Elder of the Galactic Psychedelic Council
This fall tour demonstrates that Jerry could still blow the room away. I saw four shows on this tour, and man I will never forget them. This is a masterclass kids.
Jerry was amazing here, he’s amazing. These ladies were/are incredible. If you were there you know.., these ladies scoop you up in the palm of their hand. They knew how to capture the magic. It’s like a big hug all around.
He had an uncanny ear for selecting the musicians and arrangements for each incarnation of JGB. It wasn't always great but at times the magic took over and when it did the world got a little bit better.
Honey you are my shining star Don't you go away, oh baby I wanna be right here where you are Till my dying day, oh baby So many have tried, tried to find A love like yours and mine, oh baby Don't you realize how you hypnotise me Make me love you more each time, oh baby Honey, I'll never leave you lonely I'll give my love to you only, to you only To you only Honey you are my shining star Don't you go away, oh baby I wanna be right here where you are Till my dying day, oh baby Feel so good when we're lying here next to each other Lost in love, oh baby Honey when we touch, I love you so much You're all I ever dreamed of, oh baby Honey, I'll never leave you lonely I'll give my love to you only, to you only To you only Honey you are my shining star, don't you go away
Jerry was singing to us that night for sure. Letting us know for 24 minutes exactly how he feels. At least, That's how I remember it. Been a minute kids.
I've listened to this version dozens of times since discovering it a few weeks ago. I put it on when I'm hanging with my 8 mo old daughter and she never makes a peep. I think she's as mesmerized as me by Jerry playing his guitar.
Used to Rick my baby girl to bed singing shining Star. Three-year-old, mind you, she knew the words (alternative lyrics 😉). photos.app.goo.gl/hiavb6zcqQumJvbE9
The Leader of the heart of gold band beyond description! Captain Jerome Jerry John Garcia the Grateful Saint of Sacred Sound just laying it the hell down with all he had for his life to us all! 30 years upon his head!! What a magnificent human Be-ing and one of the rarest, Gratest most prolific musician's musicians that has or will ever exist forever under eternityyy, blue! He was the Shining Star and seriously a world hero! His music will never fade and it will never decay or get old. Everything he ever touched is timeless! NFA
My god I was there and this show was every bit as incredible as any of my 53 Grateful Dead shows...the 2nd set lineup of this Shining Star had me in a dreamland to the Strugglin man to The Maker to the Don't let go!!! it was a journey
I saw The Jerry Garcia Band at the Warfield 2 nights in a row 5 months before he passed. When he did Shining Star, it was absolutely the best rendition I'd ever heard! Where was this recorded? The song touched me to my soul & a few years later, this was the song my husband & I danced our 1st dance to at our wedding. I miss Jerry so so much! But I'm forever Grateful for the many shows I was able to attend & all the music he shared with the world! I hope to see him again in that Big Band in the Sky some day! ❤✌
Last night at Blue Note Hawaii, a great band called Skeleton Krewe All-Star band (Stephen Inglis, Pete Sears, Barry Sless, Rob Baracco, Wally Ingram) did a show for Jerry’s birthday. They played this and it was by far the highlight of the night. If you can find a copy of it online, do yourself a favor and listen. happy birthday Jerry in 2024 - the world misses you.
The Big Man was loved enough for many lifetimes during his life. He gave it all back too. He is what he is, the leader of the Grateful Dead, the only ones who ever did what they did.
I can't even imagine how moving it would be hearing these songs live. I saw Jerry perform with the Dead nearly 20 times, and always regret not prioritizing a JGB show. I just thought I'd get the chance at the time. As a guitarist I always saw this band as such a peaceful place for Jerry to play. Thanks for sharing this great video.
i never saw jerry. i wasnt really into the dead scene at the time. i was like... 8 maybe 9. we lived in maryland and my sister tried to take me to the rfk stadium shows in the early 90s several times and i always turned down the offer.
Electric guitar music is 90% awful noise, Jerry is absolutely magnificent, beautiful.. 53 years of appreciation. This version (like Dark Star) will reverberate in your head for ever, so lovely, oh so lovely ❤❤❤R.I.P. Jerry

I used to not like his playing so much. Now i think he was inconsistent and it was probably influenced by his problems with substances. Clearly he had his moments like this where he played quite beautifully.
Such sweet sweet sounds and damn if Jerry doesn't just go for it....and stay with it.... how could you NOT believe honey, you were his shining star?!?!?
I feel so lucky to have seen Jerry. Jerry was lucky to have such an attentive audience….we hung on every note together…so special. That feeling of being there and wishing such a beautiful moment is captured here. Heart is full❤
Mad ❤❤❤ to all the fam on this tour.. After a mostly bone chilling time romping around the Northeast in November... how nice it was to end the tour in the warmth of the south before the winter set in... all the comments from those in attendance is touching to reflect upon the times shared together... Bless Fam❤
Peacefull is what i love,im going outside get loaded lie in the grass and stare at those beautiful stars. The tune keeps playing, love and respect to the deadheads worldwide.
I was at this show! We were in a loge or balcony section on Jerry’s side. Not fancy seats, but Hampton isn’t as big as some other venues so I was happy! I was a college student at the time and a group of us drove out from Greensboro, NC for the show. Was SO stoked Jerry played this song!! 🤪❤️💀🥀⚡️
Let's give props to "The Manhattan's" who recorded this song first...I first realized Jerry was special in 1976 when I heard on the radio the "Grateful Dead" doing Smokey's "Second That Emotion"....I fell in love and will always be Grateful
Features Lightning Bolt with its piezo pickups. An unsolicited fan-built guitar by Stephen Cripe, a yacht builder who blew his ass up making fireworks.
This excursion by Jerry is really a testament to the new guitar, his last. He's savoring the wonderful tones--just a bit different (and 5 lbs lighter) in the chimy sounds down low.
Whomever posted this, in the title, that said “BEST EVER”….you’re right. I had mild “doubts” because I love when The JGB sings this. But; you nailed it. I bow to you. ✌🏼🌺🌹⚡️
