A well-deserved standing ovation, all the actors in the frame had tears in their eyes. A truly exciting moment. Jerry was a great man, a huge artist. Unforgettable. I love you Jerry, wherever you are.
Well it's about time !!!!!! JERRY has deserved this recognition for so long. It is way overdue !!! He is the Greatest Comedian of the 20th Century & one of Americas best 'Total Filmmakers ever. As an actor he has given us so much happiness w his humor; as well as a few tears w/ his drama. I always felt his performance in "The King of Comedy " was deserving of an Oscar. I'm sure I speak for thousands of fans when I say " JERRY, WE LOVE YOU ".
It was a long, long overdue honor to one of the very greatest entertainers of all time, and a most dedicated servant to so many in need over the past 60 years.
JERRY LEWIS is a True National Treasure. He defines Comedy Genius. The first full-fledged Movie Star I ever saw in person when I was around 4. He has been in my heart ever since. I was so delighted that JERRY was recognized for his contributions to the Art of Film; and his many humanitarian efforts . Any time I feel a little down, all I have to do to feel better is think of JERRY saying..."LAAAAAAADDY."
R.I.P. Jerry Lewis. Thank you for everything you gave to the world with your movies and comedy. I truly loved your movies growing up, they were a special part of my childhood.
Yes, he was truly "the King of Comedy." Such a big part of my life growing up and I'm sure for many others. There are certain people who you know of growing up throughout one's life who I refer to as "staples of life." People who made a difference and you felt the world was a better place because they were part of it. Jerry was one of those staples. And even after they live a long life, when they are gone, you begin to realize your own mortality.
@believe: Are you aware that Jerry’s sons were “self will run riot” and Jerry bailed them out time after time after time etc. There comes a time in life when a parent feels enough is enough. “Okay kid you’re on your own”. The best thing a parent can do for their child or rather adult child. I would probably be dead now if my father didn’t do for me what Jerry did for his sons. I only became independent after my father forced me to stand on my own 2 feet. You should always get both sides of the story.
@believe: I understand. I loved his movies as a child. Still do. I get defensive if someone says anything negative about him. 😂Don’t ask me why -I guess because he was a big part of my childhood. A group of kids were always either going to see his movie or watch one on TV during a slumber party. : )
Walk a mile in someone's shoes & you get a new understanding of what they experienced as a parent. I'n not saying they're saints to say the least but "The standard in which you judge others so shall you be judged" Believe me I try very hard not to judge, but Im only human and at times I've caught myself doing the same. I pray I do better, yikes because I'm truly hoping for mercy in my poor judgment.
Jerry looked like he was in pain :( It breaks my heart ...I love that man deeply. He deserved an oscar for his movies as well. Such a marvelous artist ! Unfortunately he was misunderstood in this country. :( Jer you were the best!
we didn't misunderstand anything. comedy is not treated with the respect it deserves. if it was easy, a whole lot more people would make us laugh on a regular basis.
He deserved it , and more, so giving to others. Worked with Jerry Levis 💙🇺🇸🇩🇰🌅 at ABC, Los Angeles CA., for Jerry's Kids. Incredible experience, and amazing human being.. God Bless .he is missed.🙏
I'm going to see Jerry live in a few days- I grew up watching his movies, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to see him before it's too late. Long live the King of Comedy!
262mommy I had the pleasure with my brother of seeing Jerry Lewis not performing comedy but speaking about the healing effects of laughter. He was in severe pain and we hung on to every word. He brought his young daughter out on stage that was very touching how much he loves her. At the end of the show he did a little schtick for us and that brought the house down! Hope you enjoyed seeing him live as much as I did with my brother. That was a couple decades ago.
If I was a producer of the Academy Awards, I would reinstate the Honorary Oscar presentations at the ceremony. These honored recipients deserve their due rather than being relegated to a cocktail party. Navid
If you're feeling depressed or down in the dumps or having anxiety/panic attacks, go watch a Jerry Lewis movie or a Jerry Lewis clip on yt & guaranteed, you'll feel better.
Three things come to my mind while watching this clip: 1. Happy Birthday Jerry Lewis! Thank you for your art, humanitarian work, and for being Jerry Lewis. 2. This was the last time the recipient of an Honorary Oscar was given a formal presentation at the Oscars. Starting in November 2009, Honorary Oscar recipients were given in the Governor's Ball. 3. Eddie Murphy would make a great host for the Oscars. Let's keep him in mind for 2013.
Jerry should receive the Nobel Peace Prize, He was on the news before the President was after hurricane Katrina to implore the people of the U.S. to understand the magnitude of the devastation and to send help. At the risk of sounding "All That Jazz" -like cliche: a great (and often under-rated) actor, and a great humanitarian!
It's certainly gratifying to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Oscar [ past honorees were Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth Taylor ] with Sophia Loren and Anthony Hopkins in the audience.
What's REALLY sad, is he will receive an 'honorary', or Lifetime Achievement Award when he passes. He was the comic genius who started EVERY known contemporay comic's act. F#@$, Jim Carrey has practically TAKEN (Some less kind, might say STOLEN) every bit of his act from Jerry. And please, before you might comment with a vehement 'not true', please watch a few Martin and Lewis skits. But like so many innovators before him, we have not appreciated him while he is still here!
EL MEJOR ACTOR DE TODO EL MUNDO UN COMICO LIMPIO JAMAS LO ESCUCHE DECIR UNA MALA PALABRA TE HACE REIR CON SU SOLA PRESENCIA LO ADMIRO MUCHISISIMO DIOS LO BENDIGA SIEMPRE
The damn shame is that the best entertainers ever to walk the planet...like Jerry Lewis and Lauren Bacall..receive 'Honorary" awards while the no talents like cyrus have them stacked to the rafters like legos. Hollywood used to mean class, style, character, beauty, glamour and TALENT. These days it's basically soft core porn from tv to the movie theatre...or computer graphics...no entertainment, no grace no anything.
I am in agreement with those individuals who believe that the Life Achievement Academy Award honorees should be given their honor on stage during the Oscar show preceeded by a selection of career best film clips, rather than the present format of a separate ceremony that dilutes the impact of the award. I also wholeheartedly agree that the TCM Remembers reflections are infinitely superior to the Oscar In Memorium tribute, which is truncated.
As regards your comment on Jerry Lewis ... *Jerry Lewis was vain, conceited and self-centered. ... Donald Trump is a great man, like my grandmother is the Queen of England. -- Quoting from the following article by handicap-activist Mike Ervin, *"Good Riddance to the Labor Day Telethon,"* "I spent many past Labor Day weekends joining other people with disabilities in protesting the telethon. We protested because we objected to the damaging telethon narrative that depicted disabled people as nothing more than helpless victims. It implied that as long as we remain disabled, we have nothing to offer or contribute and our only hope is cure. The telethon put forth the false and simplistic notion that the best way to serve disabled people is to contribute to behemoth charities that claim they will cure us. *"I found this message to be not only insulting, but also destructive. By pandering to pity, the telethon nurtured the very stigma of helplessness in which disability discrimination is rooted. It undermined the hard work of disability rights activists who have fought for decades to debunk that oppressive stigma.* These activists correctly portray people with disabilities as a community engaged in a struggle for our civil and human rights. They put forth the message that disabled people have much to offer, and that it is everyone’s responsibility to create a society that welcomes and accommodates us as we are. "Jerry Lewis was dismissed as telethon host in 2011. The telethon became increasingly shorter since then. Now, it is gone. The line hercules hercules hercules, while clapping hands together, should only be used amongst power friends and friends of friends no doubt, who are ever accepting in all its hilarity.
It's a fourth industrial revolution, fourth horizon ,fourth modernization / and or post modernity, let it shine to those with professional growth, in all sectors under the sun.
Movie buisness is Happy to have such a Talent ! He deserves just something else. they sould create a own Award for him and his kind, dont know. the Holy Grail or something ^^
A cocktail party !!!! Have you seen the ceremony that the board of governers puts on for the lifetime achievement award - they get an entire evening and banquet to themselves - not a 10 minute slot between commercials. They also get to invite all their family and freinds - not just a handful. And they also get to attend the main ceremony as well. ALL of those who have been honoured in this new format have said its a much better way to honour people.
Dear Mr. Wrangler, Come to think of it, you have a point: this new ceremony is a more convenient method to honor the recipients. I was simply speaking for the few of us who may not have a computer. Navid
@yutopi Yep, something is very wrong when Miley Cyrus presents two awards while Lauren Bacall, a recent Honorary Oscar recipient, has to stay in the seats.
And that is because Lewis had something of a beef with the Academy people and with Hollywood in general. He always felt comedic actors were looked down upon; that the industry never took them seriously.
Yep, Dean Martin fans are ready to hate Jerry (for no reason). Jerry's fans respect Dean (or at least I do, I've always admired them together). I don't understand why I hate Jerry Lewis so much.
The Academy just doesn't get it. Winners of the Honorary, Hersholt and Thalberg awards have earned the right to accept them on stage. Gathering past winners to present the acting awards was a clever idea that they trashed. "In Memoriam" tributes are just awful in comparison to the annual "TCM Remembers" salute. Finally, what does Cirque du Soleil have to do with Oscar? Many of us would rather see a new Oscar Family Album instead. (Fun to see how everyone's holding up.)
You guys that think ol Jer was such a good guy find the youtube video that his son Gary made. The entire family was terrified of him. He left none of his 50M estate to any of his 6 kids. He disavowed his love child that was forced to live on the streets. Watch the Hullabaloo video where he's trying to horn into his son's spotlight. Anyone who worked with him found him to be arrogant, angry and mean. If it was not for the Telethons he would have been forgotten long ago. Find the David Susskind interview, real pompous.
No doubt he helped raise millions and millions for "the kids". Sad though, that this egomaniac took top billing over the disease. The JERRY LEWIS Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy. The reality was very different than what he said in his speech about not getting commendation for doing something nice.
Funny at times, but only second to Jolson as the most hated person in show business. A terrible husband, father, and partner. Dean Martin was so much more talented. Lewis was a deplorable miscreant.
You need a sense if humor, before making that remark.your opinion is not of mllions of people who thought jerry lewis was a comic genius.jerry lewis was naturally funny, with out cue cards or material.jerry lewis was one of the greatest entertainers of all time.you cant fool millions of people for so many years.just saying his name makes me laugh.ha,ha,ha.from robert, the s.f.giant dan.
