@@hermanblume275 SCTV's "Martin Scorsese's Jerry Lewis Live on the Champs-Élysées". Certain aspects of Piscopo's and Murphy's impressions were a bit closer, and Piscopo looks a little more like Lewis in the face, but what made this sketch genius was that Martin Short actually covered the entire spectrum of Jerry Lewis' persona in one brief 3 minute sketch, exactly what they were spoofing in the SNL sketch. My favorite part was his Jerry Lewis reaction at the end of the sketch - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GgwVdVmazYA.html

can you imagine, impersonating Jerry Lewis right in front of him and you laugh together
@mikeking7710
@mikeking7710 3 года назад
SNL has a long history of impersonations in front of the actual celebs who are always in on the joke of laughing at themselves: - Joe Piscopo did Joan Rivers in front of her. Rivers said "If you're Joan Rivers, you're Joan Rivers on steroids." - John Belushi sang "Feelin' Alright" right along with Joe Cocker. - Jim Brewer did The Joe Pesci Show, and one time the real De Niro and Pesci appeared as guests. They ended up beating the hell out of Brewer, Billy Batts style. - Billy Crystal and Howard Cosell were Cosell's parents in a sketch about Cosell's own Bar Mitzvah. Crystal's Mrs. Cosell sounded almost more like Cosell that Cosell did. - Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph did The Prince Show on a 2006 show hosted by Steve Martin that had Prince as a music guest, although Prince wasn't personally in the sketch - Larry David did a sketch with Bernie Sanders - Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake sang with Barry Gibb himself, and for a brief shining moment, it was almost like the Bee Gees were back together - Tina Fey did Sarah Palin in front of her - Both Kate McKinnon and Amy Poehler did Hillary Clinton in front of her - Again on The Joe Pesci Show, Mark McKinney impersonated Jim Carrey, while Carrey himself was doing Jimmy Stewart. Finally, McKinney's Carrey then does his own Jimmy Stewart. You can probably find clips of many of these right here on youtube. There have certainly been others that I'm forgetting as well.
@davidthieroff9452
@davidthieroff9452 3 года назад
Will Ferrell did Janet Reno's Dance Party and the real Janet Reno crashed in. ha! Also, Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro appeared on the Joe Pesci Show once. I think Colin Quinn was playing DeNiro. I think Tony Bennett showed up too when Alec Baldwin was playing him.
@mikeking7710
@mikeking7710 3 года назад
@@davidthieroff9452 yeah, those sound familiar too...I think SNL's tradition of these kind of impersonations started with the Peter Boyle Valentine's Day show from the very first season. Boyle and Belushi did a sketch that was called Dueling Brandos. They were both dressed up as Brando's biker character from "The Wild One", and both of them were trading lines from Brando's early movies back & forth in between banjo licks, like da-da-daah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-daaah, "I coulda been a contender" and "Stella!". Brando himself wasn't part of it, but the idea of two persons playing a single celebrity character off each other seemed to start from there. I'm not sure when they did the first one with the actual celebrity as part of it, but the earliest one I could find was the Charles Grodin show in the third season. Paul Simon was the music guest, and Grodin insisted on singing a duet (very badly) with him, while wearing an Art Garfunkel wig. If I recall correctly, Simon gets fed up with it, and after he leaves the stage, the real Art Garfunkel comes out and confronts Grodin, who sheepishly hands him the wig.

From 81' to 84' it was Joe and Eddie that carried SNL the others during that time are hardly worth mentioning from a historical standpoint. The Original cast 76' to 80' was great. There was a lot of great comedians that came from SNL but they came sporadically. Something happened to SNL around 1998. There was a noticeable political bias against conservatives whereas before they seemed to not take sides. The only thing I can think of is the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal and that Lorne Michaels became irrationally defensive of the Clinton's....and that bias has carried on for two decades.

A classic skit! The three of them doing Jerry Lewis impressions! It was funnier because Jerry Lewis was there!

I still find the naive character that Jerry Lewis plays hilarious & endearing.

Yeah, but the "real" Jerry was a particular kind of immature, arrogant asshole whose obnoxious self-delusion was never challenged. Just watch him being interviewed.

@@beths3288 Yes, he was arrogant. So many actors are. Pity some of the lovable character that he played, didn't rub off.
