The dude was just a brawler. He never backed up, and was always standing toe to toe slugging it out, usually against bigger, taller men with a longer reach. He stayed in top shape, and he was TOUGH. Nobody ever beat Jerry Quarry without earning it. He never stpped swinging, and he could take the most serious punishment without a whimper. I read that he once said Muhammad Ali hit like a girl! {Or something along those lines). He lost about as many championship fights due to cuts than to TKOs. He competed in a VERY tough era, and just couldn't seem get a break in the big fights. He ended up with a bad case of boxer's dementia very early in life that affected him severely, and that took him from us completely in his mid-50's. He is still missed by those old enough to remember watching him rumble. God, please bless Jerry Quarry as well as he did all the fans that loved and respected him.
Jerry wasn't just a brawler, he could box, and he was an excellent counter puncher. If he had his younger brother's legs, he probably would have been a champion.
He was a talented, tough and entertaining boxer to watch. Unfortunately, he was not a consistent performer in the ring. Great choice of music for this career montage of Jerry Quarry. It all brings back colorful memories of an exciting era in professional boxing.
Too many highlights of him jolting Patterson. Everybody knocked down Patterson. He had a 'glass jaw'.But I always was a Quarry fan. Saw him a few times at the Olympic Auditorium in LA
