I think the two greatest guitarists of the last 100 years were Glen Campbell and Roy Clark. And Jerry is a genius in his own way...nobody picks like Jerry.

Not too many artists nowadays can sing and play their own instruments Glen and Jerry had amazing personalities too. “Those two together would be a great party!” God I miss those guys! I felt like I was good friends with them.
Many people don't know that Glen was part of "The Wrecking Crew" a studio band that played on many albums by groups including Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones and other well-known groups whose own artists just weren't quite up to par for studio quality work. Glen is a legendary guitar player. God rest him.
The Wrecking Crew did not play on Beatles or Stones records. Other than orchestrations, both bands played their own instruments, with some rare exceptions when a guest musician might sit in with them.
I think youre confused, Wrecking Crew played on John Lennon's album "Rock and Roll" but never a Beatles album. Jim Keltner played in Ringos All Starr Band, but the Beatles never even recorded a single track in an American studio. The Rolling Stones had an association with The Swampers (mostly recording/engineering) but not Wrecking Crew. The Wrecking Crew was all over Beach Boys records though.
That used to be true, like 30 years ago. I've been playing since 1965, and by 1974 everyone in my circle knew. Also I agree with a previous reply. The Wrecking Crew never set foot in a Beatles or Stones session.

@@gregamerson9172 Doesn't change the fact. Go check out the young uns: Michael Cleveland, Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, Sierra Hull, Tim Henson. Then tell me that Glen and Jerry would say the same as you, if alive. Give them a listen. Start with Billy Strings w/ Michael Cleveland playing Sally Goodin (String the Halls 2) You'll be surprised. God didn't stop handing out talent just because we got older. He really didn't.

@The Crow. Welsh guy here from the Uk, and I couldn’t agree more with you. With the addition of Roy Clark as someone mentioned, 3 of the best (and my favourite) guitar players ever! Sadly not that well known in the UK - Glen Campbell is of course but as a singer and entertainer, not necessarily a guitarist. I don’t mean to diss Chet Atkins, he was great too, but I just prefer these guys - they stand alongside any of the great guitar players anyone could name. Absolutely fantastic…
Holy cow!what total guitar killers! Just so happens they’re also great singers, songwriters and entertainers at the very highest level! I play guitar and there not even looking at the fretboard as they’re playing. Crazy how good these two were on guitar and singing at the same time too.
Neither were underrated at all. Both were highly respected players. Campbell was viewed as top 5 in the world. EVH once asked Alice Cooper to get him a lesson from Glen Campbell.
Two more masters of the strings are gone. With so much crap being forced on us by the recording industry, I'm not sure that we'll see their kind for years to come.
Just remember them. No one is ever going to do thit like this again, certainly not modern "country" act, but it's okay, cause we know. We know how amazing people like Jerry and Glen were, and that's just fine to stay that way.
1. Never forget them 2. Try our hardest to keep their memory alive 3. Find folks who can play this stuff and bring them to the forefront of the country music genre.
This is from when you needed real talent to get on TV and make records. Remember them both as they are here. Young, talented and with much life ahead of them.
He seems to have preffered guitars with acoustic properties, whether it was Ovation or not I think it waw just the kind of sound he was going for. He had great hybryd picking style, combined with a vast knowledge of the fretboard. He could play any guitar well, but he stuck mostly with acoustic guitars, because he probably loved that sound. And I totally can understand that, I will take my acoustic any day, over my electric. Different feel , different vibe, different sound. And remember about his folk and country roots: he even did a full instrumental acoustic album with Roy Clark, back in 60s
I hate Ovations. That round back makes the guitar hard to hold steady when strumming. Not to mention, they sounded like a toy guitar unplugged. However, I think the reason he used them is because they were the first acoustic-electric to sound decent when plugged in. I also assume he was sponsored by them.
Jerry is picking a Fender Telecaster, the stalwart instrument of country music since 1951 and Glen has his signature Ovation acoustic/electric. Man, what joy these two boys have brought to our lives.
