Jerry Reed-Guitar Man- Song Writer-Actor- (Documentary) 

I agree. I've watched everything I could find recorded and every video. I listen to his music nearly everyday. From his Wrecking Crew days to his last video. Wish I could have seen him live.

I met Jerry in 1982 and was able to play two songs with him at our house when he came by to get my dad to sign some papers but my dad was at our fishing camp. I was at home alone practicing drums. There were no guitars there at the time so he played my Yamaha keyboard through my band`s Peavey PA system and sang two songs through the one microphone we had. He was one of the first people who encouraged me to keep going on drums and seemed sincere about it when he told me he could tell I had talent. I had only started playing months before and almost immediately found myself in a band so I was nervous. I could tell he was a great person. Jerry was right. I`ve played music since and learned guitar too. That treasured keyboard burned in a house fire near our fish camp and my drums were lost to a bar fire after a show in Mansfield, Louisiana in 1993.

@@ryansilver5497 Billy has the advantage of being taught by RU-vid and internet, back then was a whole different evolution, Jerry was Chet style Billy isn't, and a counterpoint master

@@shable1436 thank you for sharing your thoughts but I respectfully disagree. Music is music . Billy Strings grew up on bluegrass from his uncle , not RU-vid. He was shredding bluegrass acoustic in his youth regardless of RU-vid in my opinion… but the good news is , I believe Jerry Reed was BETTER … Chet Atkins , better .. and Doc Watson, better . Strings is a speed demon and fantastic but these other players were every bit as good if not better . I’m not convinced it’s like professional tennis where the players do indeed get significantly better over the years based on training and equipment improvements. I think , unlike professional tennis , the old timers were PHENOMENAL as they stood in that era compared to today’s players … even the country guys from the 40’s and 50’s and Elvis’s guitar player and all those guys, the guy from Hee Haw (forget his name ). He’s ABSOLUTELY as fast as Billy Strings .. without RU-vid … Roy Clark ? Tommy Emanuel was a beast before RU-vid and he’s better than Billy Strings. So again , I don’t think RU-vid affects the skill levels at the higher brackets at all . Those older generation guys could stand up to today’s players with zero issues.

I was wondering if anybody would mention this. Dolly Parton has long told the story of Elvis really wanting to do "I Will Always Love You" but upon hearing Tom Parker's demand of co- song writing credits she turned them down, and I've always felt that was gutsy. I'm glad to see that a great guy like Jerry Reed had the stones to do the same thing. Tom Parker was a real piece of work.

​@@jamasters62Yep, he made Elvis a lot of money. Elvis could have fired Parker, but kept him as his manager. Elvis was a man and lived with his decisions.

Back in the time when Elvis was going to cut I will always love you it was an early seventies the time when he divorced Priscilla Elvis Presley would have made that song a hell of a bigger hit at that time because he was singing because he was singing it from his emotions of Priscilla Presley Dolly Parton already had a hit with the song with her own version so that's one of the reasons why one of the reasons why she didn't agree to Colonel Parker's demand Colonel Parker was a rude person when he came off on a business part of the deal I was didn't even know about that either Elvis was going to fire Colonel Parker when he found out about that cuz he really wanted to record that song. I never heard this story about Jerry Reed I thought Dolly Parton was the only one but everyone that Elvis Presley recorded for he got half the publishing rights and I was because of Colonel Parker he was a thief, not only Colonel Parker got 50% of Elvis's earnings he got 50% of all the profits that he would sing for publishing rights of someone else's song so think about it I was only got 25% of recordings, that's pretty shabby and this is why when I was died Priscilla Presley check Colonel Parker to court when I was dying because he was trying to get 73% of the royalties after Elvis died which is another bulshit crack. And Colonel Parker lost in other words Colonel Parker died broke. If Elvis Presley was alive then Elvis Presley with a one back all that 50% that Colonel Parker can't scammed Elvis out of because Elvis didn't know what he was doing he was new at all this Colonel Parker was a con artist this is why he was kicked out of the United States let me rephrase I'm not sure if that's why I was kicked out of the United States he was kicked out of the United States because of something to do with the military I supposedly killed somebody in the military and he wasn't allowed back in the United States I'm not sure if something around that line, Colonel Parker was nothing but a rip-off artist he stole from Elvis throughout the years cuz he was controlling a lot of the money and Alice's father was involved in it somehow too but you'll never admit it, Elvis didn't trust too many people so he had the right people in line that he did trust which he thought he could trust his own father and Colonel Parker and Colonel Parker. Gladys Presley new Colonel Parker was no good he should have listened to his mother

He stood up to the colonel, not Elvis. Elvis was just happy to have his work on his singing.

Dolly Parton didn't sell out to the dog catcher either.

Even though Jerry Reed had won multiple musical awards, it's almost criminal how underrated he was, not only obviously as a GREAT singer/guitar player, but also as a natural actor. In my opinion, Jerry's unique musical style created an unprecedented genre called "country funk" (especially during the song "Amos Moses"). Jerry was one of a kind, that's for sure. And good to read that he has fans from around the world.

I may have a song or two by Jerry Reed on my "great live music" playlist.

@@mikes3827 not underrated at all,maybe not known around the world ( obviously known in the States especially the South) But anyone that knows him,rates him as one of the best guitarist's. He's very rated and respected by his peers,B.B .King doesn't play with anyone. Not known is not the same as underrated

@@davidmellish3295 Semantics. By not being as widely heralded as Jerry Reed should have been, he is underrated. We're both HUGE Jerry Reed fans, I just don't think Jerry got the widespread credit that he was/is due, that's all.

@@mikes3827 no I disagree, he's not widely known and recognised by the masses and doesn't get the credit he deserves because they don't know about him. BUT those that do know him,rate him. So he's not underrated by anyone that knows him. So he's not underrated at all,not being known and getting the credit he should is different to being underrated, because you have to know someone in order to rate them,so underrated is the wrong word my friend

Please blame Parker and not Elvis. All Elvis did was sing. Parker did the rest whilst EP was slowly dying.

The difference is Dolly didn't let him do the cover whereas Elvis already had recorded the song and he said "no". Did it get released with Jerry getting t h e royalties?

It sounds like he had a practical wife too. I took note they had children, not right away and each daughter 10 years apart. It was a good thing the public didn't really know he was Mr Hubbard so it was not easy to bother Mrs Hubbard so matter how famous Mr Reed (Jerry Reed Hubbard) became. It was sad he died so soon. Side story: Harold Ray Ragsdale, aka Ray Stevens, had the same advantage of a stage name. Mrs Peggy Ragsdale had privacy. But some where I think in Ray's 6th decade I think he said he changed his name to Ray Stevens so his driver's license would read Ray Stevens. It reduced confusion because officials just wouldn't believe he was Harold Ray Ragsdale. He said it in a joke in regards to being stopped for speeding. I would think it would be more in line with airline travel, but Idk. Sadly, 15 min before the start of 2022 New Year, Peggy Ragsdale died. Ray put out a tribute to his beloved on his RU-vid channel. Ray's CabaRay is a success and I think this is what is keeping him going. Anyway Ray & Jerry were friends. It was from Ray I I heard of Jerry being good at playing guitar. I have listened to music all my life. My preference is Clasical. I mean a wide variety of orchestra played music over the centuries. I can tolerate a guitar but nothing that screetches.. I cannot take a "wall of noise". Jerry fortunately didn't do noise. I liked his songs that were funny.
