So many mind-readers, people who can tell when a person is actually joking or not.

Disney as a brand must protect it’s family image at all cost, as there’s just too much at stake for them. While I personally love many non-PC jokes and think we’re in a way overly sensitive era where everyone is offended by everything, as a company Disney had no choice but to let him go.

I think the most important thing to take into account is intent and who's the the target of said joke. Jokes that are clearly meant to be offensive are problematic. There are jokes that racists would find funny, but the rest of us would find deeply offensive. Take the following joke: How do you fit 50 Jews in a car? Two in the front, two in the back and 46 in the ashtray... It matters whether it's told as a deliberately bad joke or at a Nazi rally. Also it matters who the comedian is targeting with his/her joke. A politician or other public figure in a position of power has to tolerate more than some random guy. In the same manner, an affluent social group has to tolerate more than a less fortunate social group. That's why its generally more acceptable to joke about the rich than the poor.

I like Jerry Seinfeld, he's a talented comedian, but defending a pedo is a bad look. If 1000+ pedo tweets from Gunn isn't enough, didn't Seinfeld look at James Gunn's pedo party photos?

Kramer wasn't telling jokes. He was just calling a black person the N-Word. Don't lump him in with comedians who aren't very publicly racist.

Kramer's N word usage was not a joke. They were retorts to audience members. If jokes, they certainly border on something else.

The Gunn haters must be pissed about the recent news of him writing the new SS script and possibly directing, he is also getting ready to start production on another movie.

I'd argue also, that 'jokes' (Gunn's weren't funny either) about Paedophilia don't have the same real world consequences; i.e. you don't see a spike in child sexual exploitation following said 'jokes'. Whereas we do know that racism, in so-called comedic form or not, has real world consequences for their targets. Not least, in emboldening the far-right racists and fascists in carrying out racist attacks and violence. Trump is the ultimate bad joke.

You people used to review films and TV shows. Remember that? Now you think you're Entertainment Tonight.

Guardians of the Galaxy is bigger than Disney. Disney found out the hard way. Had to be humiliating to learn this how they did.

Political correctness and SJW's are killing Comedy among many other things, I was reading about TVFilthyFrank and Dave Chappelle and their struggle with all the crap now in days. Uncensored and above the political correctness comedy is already out there and cant be destroyed.

Whether or not a joke is funny should make no difference. You don't know if something is funny or not until it hits others ears. If the attempt is in jest, all should be forgiven. Roseanne and Gunn are in the same boat. Anything else is authoritarian word policing.

There was no meaningful difference between Roseanne and Gunn's tweets. They were both offensive. They were both jokes. They both targeted specific people. They were both employed by Disney at the time of the tweets, and they were both fired by Disney. Any attempt to split hairs and rationalize one being fired over the other reveals ulterior motives. They should either both be fired, or neither.

Seinfield did not defend JG. He say it himself if is not funny, is not a joke...

I'm pretty sure that he worked for troma films at the time. This film company's piece de resistance was the toxic avenger. Low budget and kind of slimy, following in the footsteps of John Waters, I can see this type of art getting someone to say some stupid crap. Especially a director, creating the universes that were considerably less than wholesome for this company at the time.

think, there is always someone, who have a less problem to do controvercial jokes like racism or religion (asian american joke about the racism towards asian american etc.) BUT, there is NO ONE, who makes a pedophile joke and has no problem (including kids themselves). No exception. I like Guardian of Galaxy, and James Gunn is a fine filmmaker. His career should not end with his joke, (ffs, it was just a tweet!) which he now deeply regrets. But, I support Disney's decision, since Disney's main target are children and teenagers. Maybe the Guardian of Galaxy III should be made by some other film companies.
