Hey, this is just a compilation of all of my extreme low light nights mixed with a couple high moon nights and comparing the Jerry 31s 1500 FOM to Photonis Echo 2000 FOM, and GEN3 Elbit thin filmed 2800 FOM
I just bought my Jerry 14 for $2300 out the door after tax from Custom Night Vision. With really hard conditions, a dark bathroom with absolutely no light, you can still process what you're looking at and its very usable. Its WAY WAY clearer in person than any videos I saw. Only difference is lack of detail on certain items like writing or patterns. No its not day light bring but its "late afternoon" bright and SNR and static is not as bad as it shows on screen. Your eye just is able to filter that better. All in all a crazy killer deal for a absolute beginner to NVGs and I plan to upgrade the tube. Very very happy with the purchase.
Yup same here, got a pair j31's Doing a reload or trying to make out the details of something close is tough and with gain up high with minimum light the noise will show but it's still a solid bargain
Why buy something just to upgrade it to something better? Isn’t it cheaper to buy the upgraded item? Genuine question coming from a fiscal perspective.
Got a pair myself and am actually really impressed with how well they operate. Obviously not gonna be as good as other high spec tubes but not being in the military anymore I dont need high spec to move n shoot, hike, drive, etc., these tubes get the job done well.
What's wild is the original binoculars I was looking at would be about $8,000 - $10,000. You could get these and a Jerry C5 clip on thermal imager with it and have binocular night vision and thermal capabilities for that same $8,000.
Thank you, that’s why I did the videos. Not trying to sway anyone in one direction or another. Just relay performance. Do me a favor! Comment your thoughts on them after you have some time with them. Pros and CONS please.
Fellow Iowan here. Went ahead and snagged a pair of j31’s yesterday, my entry into NV. Watched all your videos regarding it and god knows how many other before pulling the trigger, decided to go through Steele because of their in-house cq check. I’ve got realistic expectations but I cannot wait.
My biggest issue with my Jerry 31s what the chromatic aberrations due to the glass. The standard Carson lenses on other units as far superior to the glass on the Jerry outside of that they are great units for the price.
How confident did you feel around 5:00 minute mark of the video? If I’m being honest, I can tell a slight difference in the Photonis being able to see slightly further. Can’t decide if I should scoop these or save for Gen 3 duals
I was expecting more of a gap between Echo and the j31s,.. as far as performance. The echo does have better specs. In person I did notice a bit more clarity on edges of objects likely due to the higher SNR. But that was studying the images in person,… hard to illustrate the small differences with just an iPhone recording. When I first got the J31s I was worried they wouldn’t perform well enough, but they have done better than I thought.
god i dont know what to pick, im stuck between a set of 1431 gen 3 in GP around 2000 FOM for 4500, or Jerry 31 for 4k. im not going mono because i cannot keep one eye focused, and i will be hiking more then shooting with them.
I’m reviewing a Gen 3 GP omni7 pvs 14 don’t know the FOM… overall performance is very close, aside from the green phosphor anyway. The green seems a little brighter,.. in most conditions just a touch more clear. in some cases the jerry was more clear. When paying that much what’s another $500? So it really comes down to green or white… and or the housing features your looking for. I think you would be happy either way!
@@IowaNVGuy awesome I’ll have to keep an eye out for that video because I think the tubes I’ll be getting is Omni 7. And this is the best answer gotten, I’m glad to hear they’re close to the same performance wise, I may have to go with green, then just to go a little bit brighter because I’m gonna be hiking a lot more. but there jerrys may bave a better wareanty so yeah ill just kinda have to figure the rest out! Ill keep a eye on that video!! Really appreciate it!
Brothers and sisters, you are sleeping on possibly the best housing for the price point… instead of this thing, you guys could get yourself a nice set of LLI Aeternus, which take PVS-14 lenses, so you could put Carson on them or if you want to save a bit, Argus LW lenses, which are an amazing product, and add a pair of NVT-4 tubes, or if you wanna up the budget a little more, NVT-5’s. You’d spend about the same, sacrifice articulation for image quality
@@aesthetic8780 it’s definitely a very comfortable thing to have but I’d take image quality over articulation, especially if it’s such a huge change from J-31 glass to Carson
I am so torn between a set of j31 or a really high spec pvs14 I have a couple green phos units I'm about to purchase a white phos unit I just don't know what to pick
It’s a hard choice!!! I had a 2800+ FOM pvs14… in extreme low light, I did still use supplemental IR light to identify targets and see out to distance. DUELS VS MONO is really the question? Or is it???? If you have a decent PVS14 now… I’d suggest going the route of adding a COTI and having thermal overlay! I truly believe that is the future of NIGHT VISION.
Go for the green Phos j31. It's P22. A bit like a mix of green/white. The glass isn't made for P45! You get bad clarity and rainbow effect. The glass is made for P22. You get really good clarity and better Gain.
I was the same my buddy has a pvs14 that I tried hog hunting and I wasn’t a fan of the mono it messed with me a little. I went with the J31s and couldn’t be happier for the price. Sure would I like to have PVS31s of course but. I couldn’t justify the cost of something I hobby with/use 1-2x a month.
@IowaNVGuy I thought about a coti I ended up getting a elbit xlsh 14 with 2400+ fom it's insanely crisp I got a stingIR as well to pair with it I thought about a coti but I want a dedicated thermal I can swing down to scan with my best green phos 14 sees into much darker conditions clearly then the elbit from what I'm reading that's normal for green units to be able to do
The price is right on the Jerry Seinfeld’s and the performance looks pretty good too. How rugged do they feel compared to a milspec 14? Thanks for the video(s) 🫡
They feel stout, BUT…. They are articulating which inherently will make them more vulnerable to damage than a single unit like a pvs14. I’ve seen videos of the RNVGS.. being run over by a truck surviving, but they are not articulate. I wish I had a pair to torture test to find out exactly the abuse they would take! I cannot swing that cost lol
