The talent of the finns in this years draft is almost unbelievable. Puljujarvi, a U18 player but still is an important player in Karpat in finnish elite league, is third in points all time of the U20. Aho is the smartest of them, he lead his team in points also. And Laine, his shot is a rocket, imagine these three players playing for Finland. It reminds me of the Russian Machine in the 80s.

Aside from his undoubtedly great skills... Remember the time when Puljujärvi had a correctly sized helmet?

Pulju needs alot more speed and games in NHL so he gets used to smaller rink and speed of best league in the World.Last season wasnt that good for him but im 100% sure he will be a great player in NHL One day..Just need time and need to remember hes really Young age..Pulju,ur the Man!

Thanks for this! By the way, I'd like to hear your opinion on Matthews vs. Laine, you probably have seen a lot of both of them and you could have a good idea on their battle. With minor national preference(because I'm from Finland) I have to say that IMO Laine is better than Matthews. At the moment, and in the future. Matthews is just overhyped because of his position, and nationality. Laine will show in the World Championships that he deserves the number 1 pick in the draft, but I still think that Toronto don't have the balls to do it, and they will draft Auston. Do you agree with me on the fact that Laine is, and will be better than Matthews or not? And if so, why? I'd love to hear your answer.

+VirkkuHD Hi there, thanks for your tough question. =D I would say, Laine has closed the gap a lot and there is an argument for him to go 1st, with an excellent WJC and now post-season. However, i think if i were building a team, i would probably take Matthews, for a few reasons. He really has no weakness, reminds me of Kopitar, in style and in projection. A really consistent centerman who you can build around, he can play right away, can make an impact right away and you can rely on him for 10-12 years. However, that said, i see both as franchise level players in both Matthews and Laine. Matthews, to me, offers more certainty. Laine offers more potential offensively and arguably, more upside. He has one of the best shots in a long time. But, i still think he can work on his skating, more engagement/assertiveness on the boards would also be nice. For me, nationality isn't an issue (USA vs Finland). Sorry! Probably not the answer you were looking for.

+VirkkuHD I think the same, hope he goes 1st instead of matthews, he has so much more talent
@needreviving4644

Matthews is a cornerstone center. Laine is great, but most scouts agree Matthews is the better player. Laine is really only better offensively, and there's way more to the game than points.

@NorrnasBoy250
@NorrnasBoy250 8 лет назад
matthews will unfortunately go number 1 cause the maple leafs need a good center which they havent had since Sudden.
@defuzins
@defuzins 8 лет назад
It's not unfortunate. Matthews is the real deal. I've watched him for years at a time. He's been good and skated with NHL players at 15 years old cause he got invited. You don't see what's great about matthews cause he doesn't do flashy stuff.

+Patrick star Its ofcourse the right decision for the leafs but we finns really hoped for Laine or Puljujärvi to go first, Barkov went second in his draft also.

You can take pride in the fact that Barkov is the best player from the 2013 draft at least.

After watching this, I can see why he dropped off. Maybe else where he shows a quicker and more deceptive shot. Not everything in U18, U20 translates well into the NHL...

Depends what position you need. Pulju's stats are not the greatest with exception of the world juniors, which is why he wasn't going to get drafted ahead of laine.

Fay kol Keep in mind Pulju and Laine were playing in a men's league, while the Canadians mostly play in the Canadian junior leagues.
