Honestly, their privilege would go away, if black people really learned to love ourselves and stopped viewing those who look least like us as superior. Dark skin should be the epitome of beauty for us. The next time you see a dark skin child or if you have dark skin children, bestow lots of love onto them and favor them, above all else. Go out of your way to tell them how beautiful, good and wonderful they are. This will ensure positive self esteem, because the child will begin to see themselves from a privileged standpoint. My best friend is dark skinned, and has experienced all those things i mentioned. And more. i seen her be emotionally abused for being darker. I seen someone I’m related to be told that she thinks she’s all that for being light skinned and her hair. I’ve never experienced that. That’s what i mean. And when i say “ i don’t have a dog in the fight” again, I’m speaking on the issue between very darker skinned ppl and lighter skinned ppl. Not white people. Not institutional or situational colorism in the work place etc. I’m speaking about bullying. Insults specifically Dark skinned women are often gas lit to believe colorism isn’t real, or harder on darker people. I know for a fact it real and harder on darker ppl. from what ive seen.
