Jesse Williams talks new documentary 'Stay Woke' which touches on Black Lives Matter, his new 'Ebroji' app, Grey's Anatomy, and more! Aired: 5-24-16 Click Here To Subscribe! ► bit.ly/SubBreakfastClub
This man is so intelligent, socially conscious, & passionate about the greater well-being of the black community. Love that he uses his platform to be an activist. His mind is just as attractive or perhaps even supersedes his exterior. #substanceoverflesh #morethanfine
Jesse is the realest. I'm always willing to support his work. I like how he specifically acknowledged the labor black female organizers have contributed to this movement, because I swear folks forget it sometimes. He seems like a genuine, relatively lowkey dude.
Every time Angie says Jesse is "fired up" I get annoyed. How is he fired up? He's calmly talking about oppression and social injustice. Stop trying to make him seem aggressive
Sway did the exact same thing (or whoever is in charge of titling the videos that appear on his channel) when Tyrese was on there. Tyrese was talking about the limitations and restrictions Black artists face while seeking opportunity and artistic growth in a predominately white run film industry and how that industry actively devalues Black talent and the title of the video was "Tyrese Explodes about racism in Hollywood" or something to that effect.
I like how Jesse thinks, especially when he commented on how we as black people were owned and not considered 'people' or 'human'. That reminded me of a researcher called Jordan Maxwell and his take on how you basically don't own your own life. His research into the word 'ship' is real deep. The etymology of words like 'courtsSHIP', 'relationSHIP', 'partnerSHIP', 'kinSHIP' ... The list goes on.
I love Jesse. this interview was so important. breakfast definantly would have done better! but he is the ultimate gentleman. for those of you who don't know jesse Williams please Google him. hes been very active. very woke.
I agree with the part about being systematically behind. I remember in my early years in college I didn't understand how the other students would know things early on and I was reading the books and would be like how and where did you learn this stuff? Come to find out they were already studying in their youth. Now that the internet is available we can start looking at things ahead but even in that I get exactly where he is coming from...
But remember not everyone has internet access in their youth. And even those who do sometimes live in environments that are not conducive to study or are raised by parents who may not have a grasp on just how significant education is or they do but are too busy trying to supply the most basic survival needs for their children to spend time focused on intellectual cultivation.
This interview could have gone to so many different levels and ACTUALLY promoted change in some people if Angie wasn't so I'll prepared and cut him off so often. The Breakfast Club needs to bring him on again, but this time with Charlamagne, Angela, and Envy. I hope their team reads these comments because what could have been one of the most powerful interviews, really only had me distracted by the irrelevant questions and commentary.
Right on! Angie (bless her soul) tends to fade the timely and conscious convos into the neutral zone and then jokingly uses "worked up" and "so angry" to describe the person stating the facts/truth. Unfortunate.
He's such an intelligent and super cool guy isn't he..!! Amazing Actor and A Humanitarian Too~this dude is gonna go on to do some very amazing things!!💙
I need to find another Jesse Williams interview because Angie Martinez was not taking this interview seriously. He's dropping truth and she sounds like it's the first time she's ever heard of rioting and protesting. Wth. It's coming off as a bit patronizing too. It's really disappointing. There's something really raw and unique about this show and the Breakfast Club where, you learn some actual gems, but dumb shit like this is what makes me not want to watch this anymore. Like, where's the dialogue?? Jesse Williams can't be the only one talking with some sense!! And yes, he does WAY more than Grey's Anatomy, he's an effing activist!! Give him some respek!
I loovvvveee Grey's!!!! Yes if you haven't seen Grey's from the beginning up until now please watch it on Netflix I promise you, you will not regret it. I love you too Dr. Avery!!!! LOL
The eyes are for the kill, wonderful and addictive to look at. Gosh, hope JAPRIL is for real even off screen. I love their Greys Anatomy characters on screen and off screen. Good job Jesse Williams with your advocacy. :)
+Tianna Evans yah, too bad JAPRIL are very much happily married off screen. They are just good actress and actor because they make the chemistry alive on screen. Somehow its hard to detach the fantasy to reality. :)
It's been 3 years but I HOPE Jesse has met Jidenna by now. They have a lot of the same goals and are both brilliant. It's funny to hear him talk about Ferguson. I worked in Jennings, blocks down from Ferguson during the Unrest. There were definitely tanks. Not just in Ferguson proper, but in the surrounding neighborhoods, too. I worked in a shopping plaza and there were tanks in our parking lot and snipers on our roof. It was scary and wild. Him on the history of funeral wakes. Omg. O.O Africa is depicted as smaller than it is? o.o It's always appeared massive to me. o.o You listen to Jesse or Jidenna and you come away with a history lesson. "An experience outside of your own can be true." Hello, Jesse. Did he ever post that reading list for historical context? I want it. They're talking such real shit on categorizing non-white people. They're reflective of the race/ethnicity if they do bad, but are in the general (white) populous if they do good. Ugh. White people are not neutral. @.@
I think Angie's maybe off interviewing skills came from truly not knowing this information prior the interview, because most of her interviews are good. I just think she was taken aback about the information
Angie, seemed a bit out of her element with this interview. He was compelling on his own, she was a distraction. She was surprised by everything he had to say. Does she not ever read a book? (besides her own). Jesse needs his own podcast. #staywoke
Omg when is Angie's contract up? She is about as bad as Funk Flex interviewing folks they are dan near the same aweful...The Breakfast Club should have gotten this interview with Jesse. Charlemagne,Ye, and Envy would had done a great interview...much respect to Angie but retire sweetie...She needs to only interview has been rappers. She too old to be so unintelligent.geesh.smmfh
Angie is annoying in the interview. It shows her limitations about knowing what's really important. I'm glad she had him on the show, but it would of been more interesting to hear him talk to someone more knowledgeable about current events.
I LOVE GREY"S ANATOMY....IVE BEEN WATCHING SINCE DAY ONE.....SCANDAL ISNT COMING BACK UNTIL 2017 BECASUE OF C. WASHINGTON IS PREGO.....,ANGIE STOP PRETENDING TO CARE AND SHUT UP......
Angie is not an intellectual, she's so annoying. KEEP UP ANGIE! I hate when she brings intellectuals to her show. I have a hard time enjoying it because she always manages to dumb it down.
Angie is just upsetting with her response of shock in these obvious pain experiences in America for how black people have been treated and are still treated ...Her response is just ". Oh No Jess" Gosh Jessy etc etc.. i'm quite annoyed at her responses
she going by the gossip in the internet just like the breakfast, what real questions you want to know about? let me guess SEX? charlamagne always ask sex questions so much, that why you like charlamagne?
