This has been my issue with this whole thing. They did not consent to what she made them go through. They consented to the 2 hour hike. It doesn't matter if say they liked it at the end (though I doubt they really did). I cannot wait to hear the lawyer's opinion on this. Also, I get extremally sea sick. I would not have been able to go on that boat. Would they have left me behind on a beach at midnight alone?

I think she has. It’s narcissistic personality disorder and is on the spectrum. This accounts for her clear inability to read reactions. I’m a type 1 diabetic. If someone tells me we’re going on a 2 hr hike, I’d be bringing a snack and enough insulin for like 5 hrs. If you’re a type 1, at 250mL/dL+ physical activity actually makes your blood sugar rise. Not enough water and heat would really do a number. So dangerous. I’d be absolutely LIVID!

So I took a wrong turn on a hike because I misunderstood my map, and accidentally took a 14 mile hike instead of a 9 mile hike. It almost killed me because I hadnt hiked in a few months and I was absolutely not prepared for it. I had plenty of water, food, medicine, etc but the extra 5 miles was grueling, especially because it was super rocky terrain. This story makes me want to throw up. I have a few different chronic medical issues that I always need to be prepared for. This is torture.

yes! nurse here! pls don’t ever hold in your pee. like cc said it can cause a UTIs but also much worse. you cannot “sweat it out”. Also coming from a person with a genetic disease, my body overheats and will not sweat out fluid, so i’m constantly having to hydrate when i’m working out. I cannot imagine being lied to about a length of a hike and then not being able to have enough water for my body. insane.

Also…. her comment about the diabetes. your sugar will rise and be high if you have diabetes. that’s a normal high rate for a diabetic patient. if there sugars drop or get low it’s actually recommended to have candy or sugar to boost it up. shame on her for screaming at her for that, considering she also states “i don’t know anything about diabetes”

So I know the real backstory of the Nasa thing! My grandpa worked for nasa at the time, and they basically extrapolated the maximum number, doubled it once, and then doubled it twice for good measure. it was pretty common at the time (and I believe still is) to add a BUNCH of extras to anything you send up into space. so much can go wrong (supplies can be damaged in transit, atmospheric conditions can extend trips, etc) that these guys operate in an excess of an excess of caution. my grandpa was known to carry four pairs of sew on elbow patches and two sewing kits in his briefcase, presumably for some obscure elbow patch emergency. But I CAN confirm that as a single father of a daughter, he never bought my mom 100 tampons. he did however gift her two hair dryers in case she need a back up hair dryer

I come from a family of hikers and have been hiking my whole life. if someone told me we were going on a 2-hour hike, I would not bring enough water to stay more than four hours, let a lone overnight. Water is extremely heavy and it would be a waste of energy to lug around significantly more water than I would even be capable of drinking during the hike. Making people hike for 2-3 hours more than you told them to expect would be a jerk move, but expecting people to be prepared for a hike 13-hours longer than YOU specifically told them to be prepared for is absurd. Honestly, I would be upset even if the hike was just 30 minutes longer than she had said because the issue is that she specifically LIED about the situation. It just feels manipulative and gross.

I’m so glad to finally see your reaction on all of this. I’ve been waiting for it. What an absolutely horrible way to treat people. Drag them to an unfamiliar country, where they do not speak the language or have access to working phones (according to the one participant whose video I watched) and force them in the hot sun on the equator on asphalt without their shoes for hours? My ginger skin would be falling off my body without proper preparation. And then forcing them to walk in sand for miles, which is also dangerous for the ankles without proper strength staining. Only to try to “scare the piss out of them” by having them cling to the rocks while the open ocean crashed waves against them while they tried to scale the cliff. But then couldn’t get to the destination so they had to do the rocks and sand walk all over again? Then jump into the open ocean in pitch black waters? Absolutely not. You can’t see any dangers around you. And then forcing them to sleep on a Colombian beach where they could be kidnapped and forcing the guides to go without sleep to ensure their safety? What were those two guards going to do if a group of traffickers saw a bunch of “gringo” ladies sleeping on the beach? And then, even after all this, they tell her how grateful they are for the food and boats and the warm water, and she responds by telling them how disappointed she is in them. Even their gratitude is meant with beating them down. Even after all of this. And what autonomy did any of these people have through any of this. What if someone said they didn’t want to risk sleeping on a dangerous beach in Colombia? It’s not as if they had a ride home. Or a way to contact anyone. Or even the ability to talk to the guides because of the language barrier. This is horrific and terrifying and makes me want to cry so bad. I can’t believe she thought this was an acceptable way to treat the people who earn her money and allow her to live the life that she lives. Insane.

I've done day excursions from archaeological field schools that involved some intense activities but it was always 1) we had to give full health info to our leaders before the field school, particularly so they could know any potential health issues to consider, 2) we were always fully briefed on what would be involved, and 3) we could always opt out of any section that we didn't think we could do, physically or mentally.

I just want to say that people like Jessie Lee and others that use Ozempic for weight loss when they don't need it are causing a probably for diabetics like myself that DO need it. Ozempic and Trulicity have been on a shortage for the better part of a year in terms of the higher doses that most (including myself) need because of the sudden increase in demand for Ozempic for weight loss. The shortage started with Ozempic and then moved to Trulicity because it is a good replacment for this medicine. I'm suppose to be on Trulicity 3.0 MG weekly but have had to deal with HALF my recommended dose, the 1.5 MG weekly shot, for 7 or so months now because of this shortage. Can we PLEASE stop normalizing using medication that others NEED just so that some pounds can be lost??

She's not even taking into account different types of fitness. Someone could focus on strength training and be incredibly fit and health and they simply don't have the endurance to be able to do a 15 mile hike. Some people are extremely sensitive to heat as well, regardless of fitness levels. Heat is dangerous and difficult to deal with even for the fittest people in the world. It's wild she thought it was ok to pull this.

I think it's much more likely her mother maybe tried to talk to her about the claims (which no one had any right to track her down to give, for the record), and JLW freaked out and cut her mom off, but since she can't possibly be the bad guy, she rewrote what happened to blame people for telling her mom and did not do any internal work to figure out why she was actually mad.

When I was actively hiking 1 to 2 hrs a day and would do a biweekly 8 hr hike, I still would have struggled with this hike and would have been pissed if I kept being told we are almost there. How am I supposed to pace myself, space out my food, water, etc? Unacceptable.
