Well done. Thought provocative and direct. The corporate church won’t agree but they should!

Thanks for this presentation. I have already decided to give to those around in need and not let the church accumulate a vast hoard of money.

I have started this as well. I still give some to the church because I believe it needs it to keep the lights on. But I’m giving much to the people around me that could really use the help.

Thanks for your efforts, sir. It surely seems to be coming out that this church is "Christian" on the outside only... and on the inside something much less.

And I look at those students at BYU Idaho who were on Medicaid due to less financial position in their lives. So how does the Church help. Those on Medicaid were thrown out of school. Oh wait. The bad PR provided an incentive for the Church to reverse its position. I would suggest referring to Matthew Chapter 25

Rob will you be writing a book on the sort of stuff you make videos of? Do you think we are in an exciting time where the strange latter day work described in the Book of Mormon is pressing forward? Thank you for making these videos.

Wow. The church disguising tax free investments as charity😳. My sis used to work for a company that helped investors lend to people in s. America start small businesses cuz they could feel good doing a service and also gaining back a percentage of the loan (called microfinancing)

Please reconcile your assertion with this verse: Mosiah 4:28 And I would that ye should remember, that whosoever among you borroweth of his neighbor should return the thing that he borroweth, according as he doth agree, or else thou shalt commit sin; and perhaps thou shalt cause thy neighbor to commit sin also.

I have read the comments and they are all valid especially those critical. "David Haacke" I do understand what you are saying but also agree with DAVID. What the Lord has said is finally but he allows this principle into other areas of life. What the church should have done better is NOT have interest added upon it?

I'm with you on your other videos. But not on this. Sounds like the Middle Ages where only the Jews could issue loans.

You either need to get no farther than 1" from your mic, speak up or invest in a better system. I really would like to hear this but I don't like straining to hear. Thanks for the video.

Converts, from underdeveloped countries, who start this program don't have enough money for their books. They have to put them on Credit While GA kids are sooo privileged get in free to the Y.

You did not describe how the fund, as currently constituted works. Is the Church foreclosing on loans that cannot be paid? Are we confiscating property? What is the rate of interest? (if it is similar to the rate of inflation, it is not really interest, just the nature of fiat currency). You are accusing the church of usury without clearly demonstrating it. It cannot be a perpetual education fund if the moneys aren't recouped to be used again for another poor member of the church. It also couldn't be extended to an ever increasing number of saints whose lives could be improved by access to education. While I agree with the sentiment, I cannot see how the church is actually acting the way you claim, and cannot see the harm you are implying, nor can I seen how the Church is using the carrot of education as way to enslave the members to high interest. I think you are creating a problem where none exists.

The church loans you money that you then pay to BYU, then you pay them that loan back + interest. The church has taken no risks by giving you that money. Even if you don't pay back the loan, the church has lost nothing. If you are accepted to the program you must have a church calling, you must work a part time job, do church service projects, home/visiting teaching, pay tithing and have a temple rec if you have previously qualified for one. You have to be attending all your meetings as well. You're also required to pay 10% of your income to the church while under the loan. Once the payments start, (you have to start paying while in school), you can't miss any without getting into trouble. They will charge interest, and Rob Fotheringham described why that's hypocritical in this video.

"And others will he pacify, and lull them away into carnal security, that they will say: All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well-and thus the devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down to hell." 2N 28:21 "O ye wicked and perverse and stiffnecked people, why have ye built up churches unto yourselves to get gain?...your churches, yea, even every one, have become polluted because of the pride of your hearts. For behold, ye do love money, and your substance, and your fine apparel, and the adorning of your churches, more than ye love the poor and the needy, the sick and the afflicted. O ye pollutions, ye hypocrites, ye teachers, who sell yourselves for that which will canker, why have ye polluted the holy church of God?" see Mormon 8:33-38

@@robfotheringham2289 I share your concern about the way the LDS church handles it's finances and is not generous enough to the poor and needy, or transparent either. However, do you truly have an issue with there being ANY investments being made? To me this is just being fiscally responsible, creating self-sustainability, and generating an increase that can be used for generous acts in years to come. What are your thoughts on this?

I read the original sources cited in this video in context. IMO, none of them could or should be applied to the Perpetual Education Fund. The OT citations refer to lending to the widow, or fatherless children for personal gain, or were part of the Lord's law to the Israelites as their manner of caring for the poor. It was part of the same law the banned eating pork or other abominable animals. If you have ever owned a home, or financed a car or paid a dime of interest on a credit card, you are violating or supporting the violation of the application of these laws as you are interpreting them here. If you have ever had a dime in the bank, owned any stock, a rental home, or made any money from investments of any kind, you again are violating or supporting the violation of the application of these laws as you are interpreting them. Before coming here, I watched another video you made about the rift between Emma and Brigham. I know it existed. It raised questions in my mind, which are still there. But I now have the context and motivation behind the claims of the video. I'll return and carefully watch and do my own original research.

You've got it backwards. Rob clearly highlights that it's about LENDING money, not being the recipient of a loan. It's simply saying "If you loan money to someone, don't charge interest and don't hope to get repaid." The idea isn't "If you receive a loan, don't pay it back or pay interest."
