Only 1 min in and I have more info about this than from the actual Jet tools video. Thanks for the video!

Great video especially when you compared it to your earlier HF model ,you are speaking from real world experience rather than theroy. I am a fan of quality and this is a nice piece.

Hi Dave great review, I agree with your observation on the comparison of the Jet to the HF unit. The HF is not 2 HP the current draw with the 93/4 inch fan they call 10 inches will not produce 2 hp and that is with intakes with no hoses. What I did do was spend a few more dollars (more than I should Have) and upgraded my HF with a Rikon 12 inch impeller $108.00 shipped. And a Wynn 35A .5 micron Filter $208.00 shipped. Oh and the Supper Dust Deputy $ 180.00 shipped. I changed the fan, opened the intake to six inches that fits perfectly inside the intake of the SDD. The exhaust is now piped directly into the old separator ring where the Wynn 35 A sits on top where the old dust distribution bag use to be.i still have the plastic on the bottom of the separator ring to catch what falls out of the filter when I blow it out. My dust chip and dust collection can is under the Cyclone SDD. And I have the same arrangement as the jet for sealing and clamping the dust bucket. I use 5 inch HVAC ducting and blast gates for my system. It was a learning project for me. The HF DC was a gift so no money spent there. I will say I am pleased with what it does for me. Like you I am a one person one tool at a time shop. If I had it to do over again I would buy the Jet. It is done and over with. Mine I built manometers to measure the effectiveness of adding and subtracting ducting etc. and one to measure the filter clogging. In the end I think your unit will still outperform mine just because I believe Jet at saying you have a 2 hp motor with a 13 inch impeller. Mine? I think based on amperage draw the motor is closer to 1.5 hp rather than 2 HP. Current draw now is 13 amps and I am at 1900 feet above sea level. The old 9 3/4 fan The amperage was 10.8 amps. That's my story. Thanks

Thanks for sharing your build journey and that you think Dave's purchased unit would be preferred. One think to correct, Dave is not using a 2hp unit, but as he said is using the lowest model of the three, the 1.hp. It would have been good to know what wire size and breaker he had to use. I am building my workshop walls and today ran a 12AWG cable good for 20 A. Will this be sufficient, or do I need a 30A breaker and a larger wire gauge, if I get this uint?

i dave. i live in mozambique and bought the machine in south africa. the version that we have does not have a remote control. in adition it runs on 220v. thats the power we have on our outlet. im very happy with the machine. its quiter than i expect and from the video its bit louder but on the ground its very very quit. i have a jet proshop table saw and im happy with the combined sound level...very quite...im very very happy

Dave New information. The only thing the manual says about cleaning the canister filter is to turn the handle a couple of rotations periodically. What the manual does not say, that I learned from customer service, is that the handle should only be turned when the power is off. Otherwise the filter will become clogged. In order to clean the filter, use a leaf blower on the outside of the filter. This is probably best done after wheeling the unit outdoors. One of the things I really like about this unit is that it is portable.

Great video! I need to get a real dust collector and I've been considering the harbor freight modification setup, but once I do all the upgrades I might as well have paid for this one, haha! Gotta keep my eyes peeled for that Jet sale!
@daveswoodshop782
@daveswoodshop782 7 лет назад
I used the Harbor Freight dust collector for 5 years. A real value. Probably the best item they sell. No comparison though. The Jet is far more powerful. The Jet also has a much smaller footprint than the Harbor Freight with a cyclone trash can mod. On a tight budget you can't beat the Harbor Freight but if you can afford the difference you will never regret purchasing the Jet. Good Luck!

Hello, I just watched your video, thanks for doing a review. There aren't many reviews on this dust collector nor for the 2 hp or 3 hp. I understand it's a newly released product. Do you plan to install piping to connect to your tools or will continue to use the flexible tubing.

Thanks for the great review. I was considering making a "Frankendustcollector" with the Harbor Freight unit, there's a bunch of videos on RU-vid about the subject, but this put it in perspective. It's been a couple of years since you bought the Jet. Are you still happy with it? Did you do any minor tweaks with it?

To be fair when you compared the suction power of the HF vs jet, the jet has a canister filter. That means a lot more surface area and less resistance, more CFM.

I have debated going with piping and blast gates but the way my shop is laid out it just doesn't seem feasible at this time. I have no doubt that this dust collector would be able to keep up with the demands of a piping system though.

Nice review and I'm impressed with the Jet dust collector. However, I think your comment about the price point with the Harbor Freight conversion is a bit off. If the difference was a couple hundred dollars, I would agree, but at about three times the HF conversion, the market still has a way to go. With the number of HF two-stage conversion videos and guides, how long will it take HF to market their own two-stage dust collector? Clearly, there is a market for them with us hobbyists.

hi Dave this is a complete review and thank you so much. i have few question. can the remote control activate the machine behind the wall? How long id the suction pipe provided with the machine? im thinking to buy this machine but my idea is to install it on separate room due to space constrain. im looking forward to hear from you
@daveswoodshop782
@daveswoodshop782 7 лет назад
Great Question! I went right out into the shop and ran a few tests for you. Yes the remote will activate the machine from the next room through a wall (insulated in my case). Next I went 3 rooms away and tried it. Worked flawlessly through 3 walls and a substantial distance away. The machine does not come with a pipe. You must provide your own. Frees you up to customize the weight of the hose and length of the run. Hope this helps.

Dave. I purchased this same unit from Woodcraft. Got mine already assembled. I like the fact that it rolls around so I can hook it directly to my various tools and don't have to run ducts. Have you seen anything on hooking a manometer to this unit?

I am not knocking the jet collector but, I have the Harbor Freight collector and added a homemade cyclone and pvc piping and it does a fantastic job.
@daveswoodshop782
@daveswoodshop782 6 лет назад
Nothing wrong with the Harbor Freight at all. I had one with a cyclone in the shop for quite awhile. The Harbor Freight collector will do the job......but the Jet does it way better. Another benefit is that the Jet has a much smaller footprint than the Harbor Freight and cyclone. At 5x the cost of the Harbor Freight model the Jet is not for everybody. It is one of the best shop purchases that I have ever made.

Most of the time I use 10 in Eco grinder and makes a lot of fun dust I want to know if that thing works for my grinder
@daveswoodshop782
@daveswoodshop782 Год назад
I do not believe it will work. The concrete dust would probably clog and destroy the filter system. Also if you use water for cooling and dust control it definitely would destroy the Jet Dust collector. It is made for wood dust and chips. The Jet collector costs $1699. I did some research and they do make dust collectors for concrete grinders.

@Dave's Workshop How long does it take to fill the bag under the dust filter
@daveswoodshop782
@daveswoodshop782 5 лет назад
The bag goes a long time before I need to empty it. I can fill the bucket up pretty quickly when I plane some large boards but even then the bag just traps the smaller particles and takes much longer to fill. My answer would be quite a while depending on how often you use it and which tools you use it on.

I just bought this dust collector, it's great.. thank you for all the info.. in theory, and in the future; will I be able to just buy a bigger motor and mount it on this unit to achieve more air flow? Asking for a friend! 😁
@daveswoodshop782
@daveswoodshop782 5 лет назад
Glad you are as happy with yours as I am with mine. Great question about the motor. The honest answer is that I do not know. I would assume that it would work and can see no reason why it would not work. Just can't say for sure.
@TheDesertRat31
@TheDesertRat31 3 года назад
No. The motors all spin at the same RPM. The larger units have larger impellers (heavier load), which necessitates the larger motor. The larger impeller's "suction" is why the CFM is greater on the bigger units. Also, the main inlets are larger diameter, allowing more airflow.
@shoguntoo

How does the unit work with the 110V, 20 amp circuit breaker? Does it blow the circuit breaker on startup?
@daveswoodshop782
@daveswoodshop782 5 лет назад
The only time I have a problem is if I get too aggressive with a cut on the planer or bandsaw and they bog down. I attribute the circuit tripping to the tool rather than the dust collector. Solution would be to put them on a separate circuit.

Like most shop machinery the motors on these units are noisy, if you say with the table saw and dust collector running, you probably need ear plugs to protect your ears, which is a problem being you can't stay as alert for problems with ear plugs than without. The tool industry would benefit us greatly if they came up with much quieter motors.
@daveswoodshop782
@daveswoodshop782 7 лет назад
April, you raise a good point so after reading your comment I went into the shop to check some things out. First off the motor on the dust collector is relatively quiet. It is not the motor making the noise but rather the 13 inch impeller and air rushing though that generates the noise. Also my table saw motor does noes not generate much noise at all either. It is the cutting of the wood that generates the noise. As far as I can see there is no way around either issue. I wear hearing protection whenever I work for any extended amount of time. After awhile you come to rely on your senses of sight and feel in order to stay safe.

So it's been one year - are you still happy with your D.C., or do you feel you should have went with a bigger model? Is it keeping your shop clean, and are you using it with a table saw?
@daveswoodshop782
@daveswoodshop782 7 лет назад
I am still very happy with it's performance. Just used it earlier today with a table saw, jointer, and miter saw. When any of my woodworking friends come over it still evokes tool envy. It works really well with my table saw (bottom collection tray with 4 inch dust port). Even with a zero clearance insert I have literally no clean-up after a work session.

@HD-df9is
@HD-df9is 5 лет назад
@Greg Sparke I’m definitely happy with the performance. It depends what I’m doing, but I might fill a bag in one session if I’m planing, or once a week if I’m running it against just the table saw. The only thing I’ve done is run a vortex dust collector inline to capture the ultra fine particles, which I’ll empty out once a week or so. Without sounding more like a marketing robot, I’d say this purchase was one of my top decisions in the shop alongside the jet air cleaner/filter.

Excellent and informative video. Was thinking about running a dedicated pipe from this down to the floor for a sweep port. Is it powerful enough to sweep stuff into a floor port and suck up debris from garage floor port?
@daveswoodshop782
@daveswoodshop782 8 лет назад
It is plenty powerful for what you want to do. I would suggest that you cap off or use a blast gate on the pipe you are not currently using in order to provide max power. I use mine for sweeping the debris under the lathe all of the time. Does a really impressive job.
@D-OveRMinD

Yeah I was planning on running the top pipe to a pipe system to tools and the bottom one to the floor. I'll blast gate both and individual tools. Thanks.

@daveswoodshop782
@daveswoodshop782 6 лет назад
That's a great question. No. You can't clean ducts with it. Duct cleaners use between 6000 and 13,000 CFM machines. The Jet has a rating of 1,200 CFM. Great for a shop dust collector, not so great for cleaning ducts.

Hi Dave! For a one man woodshop, do you think this dust collector has enough power for a pipe dust collection system?
@daveswoodshop782
@daveswoodshop782 6 лет назад
As long as your pipe run isn't outrageously long and you use blast gates I think it will work out just fine. I have debated this setup but the way my shop is set up and the way I utilize my tools it just isn't feasible at this time. I have had this dust collector for over a year now and I am still thrilled with it's performance.
