Hey there thanks for the comment. , I would suggest looking at the pulley system to ensure they move and the belt tracks properly. I would also put a long bit in the chuck and turn the machine on; make sure that it is turning true. Of course this should be done with some precision tools but for my level of perfection a straight drill bit has worked so far. I can't honesty say I have put a lot of hours on this machine but so far so good and I have had zero issues with it. Best of luck.
Hi Chris, good job on the video! Thanks for creating with all the do-overs included. That is how my diy-home jobs usually go. I hope you are getting some enjoyable productivity out of it. Since your video is one of the newest posted by an actual owner, I wonder if you could answer a quick question. I purchased a used JDP17, and it was not loved by previous owner and I'm trying to put it back to new condition. I've bought what I thought were a lot of JET factory replacement parts but I have doubts about the "JDP17-016 Taper Pin" which goes under the table through the support bracket. Based upon the name "Taper pin" I would think it is tapered in shape, but the part that was sent to me is basically a cylinder - same diameter over the entire length of the pin, except for the threaded end. So my question is this : is your taper pin tapered or straight?
Thanks for the nice comment. I used this product for about 2 years and I have had no issues with it. I'm still very happy with the purchase. I hope you enjoy your purchase as well. Sadly I cannot be exact when answering your question. The Army saw fit to send me on a 1 year tour to South Korea and all my equipment is sitting in a storage warehouse, stateside. Looking in the user manual I would assume the pin should be a straight pin. It appears the purpose is for the table to be able to rotate around the pin. Since this component arrived already assembled I can't even try to recall what assembly was like. Sorry I can't be more helpful, I hope you get the drill up and running.
@@CDWoodWorX thank you for your quick reply. I hope your time in South Korea passes quickly, as it looks like you are getting a nice shop built and I'm sure it will be a happy reunion to fire it all up again. I think the table rotates around the 3/4" bolt, and the alignment pin wedges in and helps to keep it level right at 90 degrees. But I'm a newbie and have no experience to draw on, to back up that thought. My pin seems to have some play, and I think that is because it's a straight pin in a conical shaped hole? I have contacted JetTools tech support and hope to have a definite answer on the shape of the pin soon.
Have you run it much yet? My new Jet jdp-17 makes grinding, clunking and squeaking sounds. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n8r6XHq-K2E.html
I probably have an hour of run time on this tool. I can say for certain there is no grinding or clunking happening and the belts are not squeaking. Are the noises coming from the pulley system?
@@CDWoodWorX it’s coming from the spindle area. I returned it yesterday. Not worth the time to figure it out. As soon as I returned it, I put in an order for the Nova Voyager. Crossing my fingers it’s as good as everyone on the internet says it is.
@@templedentist Sorry to hear this. I have had so little issues with any Jet products I'm always a bit surprised to hear of others having issues. I did go with the Hammer jointer/planer over the jet though so I really don't feel Jet is perfect by any means.... I hope the Nova works out great for you!
