nice video, but a little correction, in Chinese, Wushu literally means martial arts, Wing chun is just one of the styles of Wushu, so for Jet Li's role, Huo Yuanjia, the matraial art style he uses is called 迷蹤/Mizong, so it should be better to say: Mizong vs Wing chun,
Absolutely and if they did it would be behind closed doors with no spectators or mention of the outcome because they are both so respectful towards the other.
Yes what a Bullshit comparison is this Video LOL It has Watch Mojo Quality. Also why are almsot all of Donnie Yens Movie references Movies where he only had a minor role. He had break throughs way earlier and was already well known to Martial Arts Fans before he got recognition as an Actor from Hollywood and co
In a real life fight Jet Li wins not because I'm a fan I"m a fan of both but if they're both in their prime Jet Li was a martial arts champion of the world Donnie Yen has never been
I kind of grew up on guy like Jackie Chan and later discovered Jet Li; didn't know about Donnie, recently (few years ago) started watching his movies. He's stunning!
Was it not Bruce Lee? The film directors said Bruce Lee was so fast until they had to tell him to slow down, isn’t? 😁 you know the idol of Jet Li was Jackie Chan, the actor chosen behalf of Bruce Lee was Jackie Chan maybe his idol was Bruce Lee too, but surely the idol of Donnie Yen was Bruce Lee. 😊
I was disappointed that my favorite jet li movie "the one" was not included in this video. It most accurately showcases both his light and dark side, in regards to his martial arts knowledge.
@@URBANDRAGON999 I'd phrase it as more soft vs. hard martial arts styles. Hard tends to be more direct and linear while soft tends to be more circular and fluid. You can see in portions of the movie where Gabe (the police officer) uses those softer style movements (though he often uses both), while Gabriel Yulaw (the villain) almost always takes a direct hard approach, as if he's constantly going for the shortest distance between two points. Examples of soft styles include Kung Fu and Judo, while examples of hard styles include Tae Kwan Do and Karate.
@@keeanoagustiadi241 You may be right about that 😅 ONE wonders where he gets his power from 😆 seriously tho the two styles that Jet li employs in the movie BAQUA [good guy JET ] and Ying YI [ bad guy JET ] are considered brother styles to Tai Chi so you're on the right track be safe if you train ENJOY!!😃👊
I think you're right cos I've been studying Donnie yen fights for years and I just can't see any marshal artist who can measure up to his level, talk of strength, skills, adoptability, resilience and different fighting backgrounds. He's just on top of it all.
You meant none that are alive correct? I love martial artists so when I say Bruce Lee I am aware of his passing, but I think he would have proven superior,
For me jet Lee is the best on the world. He masters 14 styles of chinese martial arts where Chinese boxing is also encluded not mentiong Tai chi. There are 4 gategories in chinese martial arts and Jet li concluded the 4 categories, whereas Bruce Lee only concluded 3 categories.
As a huge fan of both Jet Li and Donnie Yen, both are amazing marshal artists and super stars in their own rights. I strongly believe that in an actual match between the two neither would humiliate the other by defeating his opponent as these are great people in real life and understand the value of friendship over arrogance.

Personally I think they both are awesome talented martial arts fighters, that achieved alot of hype and success in their prime, so you cant really compare them.
They are both masters, skilled fighters. Our thanks to both, they have given martial arts lovers wonderful fight scenes. I don't think it is possible to pick who would be the winner in a street fight. Between two skilled fighters, the outcome could be decided on who is able to penetrate the other defence and how long it would take to do that. It is fair to say, at the start of the fight, both would be very good at protecting vital points: head, neck, chest etc... They are both skilled enough to be prepared for a surprise attack to a vital point which comes after a series of attacks at other areas with the objective of weakening or distracting. They would be perfectly matched in the initial moves and countermoves. However, the long the battle would go on, the more likely that one of the fighters will find an opening and hit a vital point which could destabilise or create a weak point. This could be a battle turning point, as both fighters are skilled enough to recognise an opportunity to capitalise on a "hit", by follow up and concetrated attacks at the same point or other areas that could weaken the opponent further. That is why fighters have to spend so much time defending some areas, because once you are hit there, it becomes difficult to recover. You can withstand one hit maybe, but not a series of hits at a vital point. The effect will be compounded if the battle has been going on for awhile and the fighter is tired. So what could determine the outcome of this battle could be who is able to penetrate defence first, and who can respond to multiple attacks from multiple positions : standing kicks, punches, flying kicks, ground locks etc...and who can simultaneously defend and attack at the same time, without creating unnecessary openings. Many kungfu styles have a large variety of starting and transitions forms or positions. They look beautiful and they can allow a fighter time to pause, centre before a battle or time to pause and regroup in the middle of a battle. They can also puzzle an opponent as to what could come next. In the end, it doesn't really matter because, what matters are the fighting positions. To hit an opponent you need to get close enough and when you are defending, you need to make sure nothing goes past a certain point and enter your zone. That is why, it is good to learn other martial arts to see what kind techniques they have to respond to the same type of attack. When you are standing, it doesn't matter if an opponent's kick is a standing kick or flying kick, it needs to enter the zone. You need a position that allows you to freely move in any direction, be free to attack and defend at the same time. The same is true if you are on the ground. Both Jet Li and Donnie Yen can do this very well.
Well, i could say donnie yen, because wing chun is focused on BOTH offense and defense, and wing chun is very powerful at close range, especially ip man's trademark machine gun punch. And in a long battle ip man would do well too, as he doesnt really get tired too much because of extensive training. Being able to both defend attack will beat jet li
I don't think we can really pick a winner. In fact we shouldn't even be pitting them against each other. They all have so much respect for each other and probably would never fight. And they are a part of the big 3, as I call it. Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen and Jet Li. The 3 who have carried martial arts in film since the passing of Bruce Lee for Asia. And all 3 of them are awesome! They have slightly different styles from each other both they all share some similarities. Jet Li is the most traditional out of the 3. Donnie Yen has combined different styles the best out of the 3. Jackie Chan is the most innovative and athletic out of the 3. But we are all the winners for being able to witness these 3 men bringing their skills to cinema, in both China and Hong Kong as well as America. I don't have a favorite. They are all equal to me.
@@ipick4fun27 I'm on the exactly opposite opinion. I actually think that in a real fight he would be better than both, if they fought at their prime years. Jackie's phyisic at his prime was literally unreal(not in appearance, but in actual physical fitness). Like in the chinese movies where you see them train in ways that you know that it's simply fake, yet Jackie Chan actually did all those trainings.
@@leonidashitler4972 @leonidas hitler That's verified. Look at the archives and you will find everything in the early days. Jetli Li has been hospitalizing his fellows with his kicks. Feel free to read about Yuen woo pings comment and how he was surprised by Jetli skills. He is not jet fo no reason. If you follow these two legends, you will know Li is outstanding, in their prime. In a real war, you don't focus on diversity, you focus on what you have mastered best. Unfortunately, Li has mastered the martial skills more than anyone else. He's also the most accomplished martial artistes of all time retiring at 19! If you know this, you have nothing to argue
Okay having done your analysis, who’s the most famous in the film industry? Who’s the most popular in the field of filming? Who’s the most successful in his career? You can’t give it to any other than Jet Li
Speak to any Chinese; or go onto Weibo. Jet himself admitted in many interviews that his martial arts background is more for form and performance and he wouldn’t bet on himself in a real fight against MMA fighters. On another TV show, he said Donnie is still crazily active and strong at this age. I love both of them but Donnie takes the fight easily
Jet Li is NEVER a person who blows his trumpet. In an interview, he once claimed that his greatest self-defense is his SMILE. that fighting to defend himself would create more enmity and the enemies would regroup again and again. In their prime, Jet Li would annihilate Yen. It's a case of Jet Li concluding his own career or schooling on time...Yen went to school late or got better as his aged..he got too immersed with the art..when Li began to tone down as he aged.
@@egbejustine Jet is a wushu guy, Donnie is a MMA guy. If the fight ends up on the ground, Jet wouldnt last a minute. Donnie is also a lot bigger and faster than Jet. Jet ONLY trained in performance wushu.
Most people will chose Donnie yen, just because he's the man of the moment and also because they ignore Lee's career. If wasn't jet Lee's break around 2006, and ip man interpretation, Donnie would have not been so famous, although he started longtime ago. I respect both of them, these two big legends. They both have deferencies in their martial arts, Donnie is polyvalent and recently a master of win Chun, but lee is a specialist of kung fu wushu, being consecutively 5 times world champion of wushu before being an actor. wushu is not the domain of Donnie, he did just 2 years of intensive training and went to explore others arts, as taekwondo and win Chun. Win Chun, is just one various of wushu, wushu means all the styles of Chinese arts. Although, I love both of Them, their all legends In their domain.
Wushu was the government approved martial arts system after it banned combatative martial arts during the cultural revolution. There’s a reason traditional Chinese martial arts are easier to find outside of China than inside.
Both are great superior fighting skills it would be hard to pick but Donnie's a master of so many skills Donnie would win. Stronger faster fighter. Love both of them!
If they fought in their young age like 20s or 30s, it's actually pretty hard to tell. Real Shaolin wushu training can be really combat effective. This random video I saw the other day is an illustration. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k620DbVgv9k.html But it seems like in later years Donnie trained harder and remained in much better shape, which is why I always thought Donnie was younger than Jet Li. So if the fight happened in their 40s or 50s, Jet Li wouldn't stand a chance. Anyway, both are really talented and hardworking people. I like all their movies and respect them both equally.
jet lI would win and had won many times! which is why jet didnt need to prove himself to Donnie... i agree with what you said that jet did stop trainning and did had health related issues, the reason Jet Li sad he had hard time keeping up with the faster kung fu fighters was because he did had injuries didnt allow him to move as quick as possible which is why when he fight he got the mindset to (end it now). vs donnie who got the mindset (im in control ) so the video i dont agree with it, because it started off with Jet Li at his limitation and lesser successes... just because you won the championship doesnt mean youre the best, it only means you was giving the chance to show why YOU are as great as YOU are... like if a person is famous doesnt mean they are rich.... now dont get me wrong Donnie do look younger and did keep training and he deserve to be better than Jet Li in the since he continue his training..... but jet li say i would die for this art and continue to train even though he have health issues he wouldve been marked better than Donnie and over shadow him too.
Both of them never trained shaolin kung fu though but have strong taolu (forms/gymnastics) wushu backgrounds. However, Donnie transitioned to practical and efficient fighting styles once he immigrated the States in the mid 70s.
Before you do your own comparison, both are nearly agemates and at one time they were taught by same teachers. Jet Li was the champion in the whole country of China and Donnie Yen was still in the country. Jetli 's speed is faster than Donnie Yen's and so is his kicks which are more powerful than the rest on the list. About the physical fitness, and acrobatics, Jetli is far better than all the martial artistes. His kicks are dangerous, check Yuen Woo Ping's words about him. Feel free to check all his interviews and live demonstrations. I'm not saying Donnie yen is not a great martial artist, I'm just saying you Jetli is far humble and talented than all these martial artistes you see upto date. Perhaps Donnie yen can't even compare with Vincent Zhao in both efficiency, speed and Acrobatics. Join us in our YTB to review these martial artists
@@高宇中 I feel sad people have never understood the great personality in JetLi. The fact that someone doesn't fight anyone in street despite of his skills shows who he is. He has never fought anyone even when he had racist verbal attacks which happens daily in the streets.
@@Jeimedia As far as I know, Jet has never endured any racism, at least none that he has spoken about. I agree, Li could kick the average untrained person’s ass if he wanted to in his prime. I know he’s a peaceful man, and would avoid conflict at all costs. But that’s not the argument. The argument is who would win: him or Donnie Yen. Don’t try to change the subject.
@@高宇中 Allow me to correct you. Jetli would not kick an average untrained person, he would kick a professional trained martial artist. I have already answered your question in my first statement. If you don't know, the two have been trained in the same school way back. Li was the champion all those years, the whole of China until he retired at 19 yrs. The only one whose story is similar to this is Bruce Lee. Check records. Li and Yen have met in two movies (Fearless and once upon a china) which you know who was the lead character. Remember bfore casting someone a role especially in Honkong films, directors have to check one's martial artist ability. Due to health condition, Li has retired from active martial arts. However Yen has a strong underrated competitor-Vincent shao. He knows his way around the kicks and punches.
The movie that got Jet Li international attention is called "HERO," not "Zhang Yimo" as stated in this video at 01:10. That's the director's name...misspelled! It should be "Zhang Yi Mou." This is like saying Leonardo DiCaprio was most recognized by the movie "James Camooro." Also, the clip shown for "Ip Man (2008)" was actually from "Ip Man 4." Please do your research.
I would like to see Donnie Yen vs Jackie Chan. I loved this video though it was very informative and fair. I had no idea Yen knew so many different styles.
Jet li will always be the best ....and has always been ranked the best to every movie that donieyen was included... His speed n Tai Chi movement makes like a god in martial world
Donnie might have a few more tools in the "Box", but after seeing Jet Li disassemble Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon, I was a fan for life. I'll always prefer him.
Fighting is all about dragging your enemy to a weak end first. However I know Donnie Yen is far much energetic and resilient than Jet Li and also has skills that measures at same level with Jet Li. The one thing I don't know is how true the skills in Tai Chi are in reality, if they are as real as they have been portrayed in movies, then, the man with the maximum Tai Chi skills will win.
Wing Chun and Tai chi are similar styles in redirecting force and using the laws of physics. In a fight it comes down to being unpredictable to catching your opponent off guard, this is why Bruce Lee is also a legend because he’s not limited to any style and may shift or combine to create that unpredictable nature where his opponent can’t read what he’s about to do. That in combination with speed is deadly because even if you can read your opponent but you can’t react in time you still get owned. I say Donny has an advantage here due to endurance and potentially more flexibility in terms of style shift. Nothing gets you more than using one style to maker your opponent think you are predictable to catching them off guard in a shift to Joy Hutus grapple at close range.
just from the eye test....Jet Li has uncanny incredible speed and explosion. The guy is like a freakin Cyborg. It didnt get stressed enough on this video. His body movement is ultra Mode status.
I would say Donnie yen too but Jet li knows Kung fu, tai chi, wing Chun and a lot more other styles you didn’t mention. You scored points for li based on only wushu which li could’ve gotten a much better score in the category but yeah Donnie seems to be the better one
Wushu = Kung fu. Wushu is the pronounciation of Martial Arts in Chinese, and is equivalent to the English word Kung Fu invented by Bruce Lee. Tai Chi, Wing Chun, Mantis Style, Long Fist, Shao Lin Styles, and many other martial arts are all Wushu. Wushu or Kung Fu are broad names of all these martial arts.
Clearly don't know what you're talking about since, Jet Li has done other styles and as you can see in the comments below.. Wushu is not ONE style. The man is a master of many forms of martial arts. In general belts mean very little, now with Donnie I'm sure they're very well earned. I wouldn't say they detract from him, but this video comes off as some Donnie fanboys clearly favoring him in my opinion while not giving Jet Li his full dues. Not to mention, you're doing the comparison of them now in their older years while one is detiorating in health. Literally, not a comparison that makes any sense to do as you already know Jet Li is going to lose.
Soap-box time... Wushu is divided in two aspects: Forms (taolu) and physical combat (sanshou). Jet Li is trained in styles that fall under the category of the taolu aspect, as seen in many of his performances as a child and youth. You can easily tell by the fluidity, gracefulness and execution behind his movements. Taolu doesn't work in real fights though whereas sanshou does. Donnie Yen came from the same background but transitioned from traditional Chinese martial arts to western/non-Chinese fighting styles since immigrating the States in mid 1970s. Donnie was raised in Combat Zone (his mom has a taolu wushu school there), Boston and had a rep for often partaking in fights on a daily basis. During his film career in the 1990s, he also got involved in a gang fight outside a night club and ended up sending 8 guys to hospital for harassing his ex girlfriend (famous TV actress Joey Meng). Jet stated during the making of Cradle 2 the Grave that he has not been in real fights and would get crushed by any pro fighter.
@@realdealmind01 li is humble he cant boast himself so he shoulkd put himself down, even chan has the same spirit . they are good fighters , the best ones then comes donnie yen
I thought Donnie Yen was an a hongkong chinese actor like Jackie Chan as we have seen him in almost all hongkong produced movies. It turns out he is an american chinese with legit mastery of martial arts.
You are unqualified to give scores to anyone of them. Learning so much types of martial arts would not make someone better than someone mastered 1 type. They both good, let’s leave it at that.
The one who's rating this is clearly a Ip man fan,I am too.but I awso know that Jet Lee will win between the two in a street fight.he already proofed this.
When and how did Jet li proved it?...not that i don't believe it ...i'm just curious. But honestly, i think anyone of them can win and loose, they are both great.
@@Khasahll jet Li is the best fighter ever bru. ...I know it's just a movie (and I don't remember the movie)and jet Li probably had to win for the sake of the movie.but as a fighter myself I believe Ti-chi is the best form of kung-fu.and Jet Li is a master in that too.amd he is faster, there for he will win
@@fuadlotz1789 you are refering to film "Twin warriors" aka "Tai chi master" ...it's a bad ass movie from Jet Li (actually 98% of his movies are all exllent). Tai chi, Ba gua (or Pa kua) have some things in common (they cultivate the chi power), but they are very difficult to learn. Also Tang lang (mantis), and Xing yi, are known for chi power.
Actually he left out hundreds of exllent films of both actors...he just mensioned a tiny few movies...if he was mensioning all good movies of both actors...that would take about 2 hours (so to speak).
People can. And it’s going to be Donnie. As much as I love Jet, he has no legitimate combat experience, nor does he know styles outside of wushu. Donnie Yen is well versed in several martial arts, including Muay Thai, BJJ, Judo, Hapkido, karate, boxing, kicboxing, and of course gung fu.
@@mwaniki9 I don’t have to to know who would win. The one with experience in more than one art and the one who has combat experience. I clicked on this to see how delusional some people could be to translate movie skills to real life skills. Might as well say Seagal can tap-out Khabib Nurmagomedov.
both are very good, but no matter how skilled you are the fight begins in the head. who can out think the other, because in a street fight there are no holds barred.
You can not compare them by action films, that is based on choreographed moves not there’s, only to please the cameras. Jet Li has trained much of his life in his art. Donnie Yen like wise, but not to the same level.
Donnie Yen was mesmerizing to watch in ipman, I don’t remember jet li ever impressing me like that. Hats off to both but Donnie Yen doesn’t flinch like Jet Li
If you say that, you obviously didn't watch even 30 % of Jet Li's movies!! Yes, Donnie Yen was impressive in Ip man (i'm a wing chun fan, by the way...it's my favourite art)...and he was impressive in many other movies...but Jet Li is 10 times more impressive than any other martial art on the planet (at least for movies). Tell me what Jet Li' s movies did you watch, if you don't mind...i know he has many LOL...it will take one or two pages just to write all his movies.
This title has some kind of problem,WingChun is only one kind ,one type of wushu , wushu includes wingchun but yes you can compare wingchun vs other wushu but wushu and wingchun is not like big circle and small circle relationship , one' s wushu can be all wingchun or part of wingchun or anything else , so yeah this video much more for entertainment but technically perhaps mislead something
I didn't know of Donnie Yen until recently when I randomly watched IP Man on Netflix, but I've known of Li and have respected and admired Li for many years now. However, Donnie really impressed me with his Wing Chun Epic Saga IP Man. He has inspired me to learn and I hope I am worthy enough to find a master who will teach me.
@@ricsheannemiles9949 I do not believe in learning a discipline such as Kung Fu in order to win, but to be completely present and to know myself better. Kung Fu teaches very important life lessons and life skills, and is not just for fighting or being the best. It is a way of life.
How do you give a physique score when the martial arts styles they practice aren't dependent on physical strength for effectiveness, or an improvisation score when both actors are doing what their choreographer told them to? I feel like Jet deserves a higher improv score, if that is one of the criteria; guy used a billiard ball, an ironing board and a fire hose as deadly weapons, beat up thugs in the context of a 'friendly' football match, and there was that time he played Wong Fei Hung defeating the villain while wearing a chicken suit, which was certainly 'creative' (though the less said about that probably the better XC)
Being a Wing Chun practitioner why have I NOT seen this yet? But after saying I have MAD respect for both of these guys- Donnie is the modern day Bruce because he combines multipole styles to flow like Jeet Kun Do
Can't imagine these two men beating each other bloody just to pease the audience. They both bring style and grace to our world, so we are appreciative of that. Who would wish harm to either? I thought Ip Man was real story of a man's struggle from the time of the boxers .
Now what's left is Jet li's is that I think he is only a film producer and director, he had left making movies, but Donnie yen's he is still a film producer a director and a film actor too so this makes the comparison a very much uncomfortable between those two of the superstars
I landed on your channel after watching Dragon. Now i am hooked for more Yen's movie. Although I had watched IP man long time ago, now I have to watch it again, and looking for more Yen's, any suggestions?
