These JET videos are very informative Fahad, thank you for making them! I'm personally a long way off from applying, but it's nice to know what to prepare for/expect.
I won't be applying for at least another 5 years so this has really helped me as now I know what to do for that time and to plan way ahead... Still got college and uni to go through first 😩
Thank you so much for making this video! So many useful things, especially the part about the jet people taking your big suitcases to your apartment already, to dress appropriately when traveling to your city and paying rent up front when signing the contract. Applying for the JET program from the Netherlands, only 3 positions available (2 ALT and 1 CIR). Enjoy the rest of your stay :)
Good information! However, what people need to keep in mind is that everyone's situation will be different. I ordered Japanese Yen through my home back in the US. It was super simple. Now, the US Dollar does get you more yen so that is good for all the new people coming this summer.
Great video, Fahad! I'm short listed and currently waiting for my placement, so the only thing I can really be sure about is orientation since everything else is ESID. Your videos are keeping me sane! Hahahaha
That customs thing is pretty standard when going to another country.. I had to fill one out when I came here to China. Although, I left the info in my suitcase and the guy was like... "whatever.. just put down the name of whoever you're staying with." guess that won't fly in Japan, but in China, most don't care about rules/regulations and certainly not traffic laws. Thanks for the vid
Hi Fahad, thanks for making all these videos. They have been really helpful and inspiring. I was just wondering if you can make a video about the financial aspect of the JET Program?
2 questions: 1. Have you always liked raw fish or did you just get used to it? 2. What would you advise to someone who isn't the greatest at making friends, cause I think you gotta make friends in order to survive
***** 1. I'm not very picky when it comes to food, but even for me raw fish was weird at first. Not bad tasting, more like the texture and the idea of eating raw fish was just foreign to me. Once you get used to it, it's amazing I think 2. I agree that you definitely need friends in order to make this a positive experience. But with so many different people from so many different parts of the world participating, I think there are all kinds of people out there that you can find it easy to become friends with.
Thanks for the encouragement, mate! That's what I'm gonna try to do. I'm looking out for the best way(s) to travel out of Hokkaido. Seems a bit trickier than hopping on the shinkansen. Anyway, great vid! I'll be sure to share it.
+Alex Furukawa I actually got a couple videos! But I got lucky because my predecessor was very communicative. Try and contact your predecessor about apartment details.
Nice video! I was looking into signing up as well, but I was wondering whether you know if there are a lot of Dutch/ Afrikaans (essentially the same) speaking people on the programme? Always prefer my native language ofc :)
***** To be honest, I haven't met any myself! Sorry! But again, I'm not a very good example because I don't go out of my way to meet JETs haha. I totally get where you are coming from when it comes to preferring your native language. :)
Fahad in Japan That's a bummer! But are there a lot of people on the programme whos first language isn't English? Or is the vast majority from anglophone countries?
Thank you for this video, I got accepted so I'm leaving this July and I'm really excited! I have a question though, does JET provide a place to stay the night prior to your flight? Because you know, there is the mandatory ore-departure orientation and you fly the next day.
+Melissa Diaz Congrats! It depends on the consulate I'm pretty sure, but as far as I know, they do provide accommodations for the orientation at the consulate.
In Boston, they did offer accommodations, although I don't know all the details (I was local), but if I recall it was offered through the travel agency, who have you fill out a form for your flight and ask if you'll need a hotel for the pre-departure orientation.
Josh White Sure you can (I should have mentioned that, sorry!), but I read online that you would quite a lower rate here versus Japan, so I opted to do it in Japan. Good point!!
Hi there we actually went to the same university~! I live in Kansai too! I have a bit of a difficult question. Do you have any information on contacting the Board of Education in Kyoto? Thanks for the video!!!
Kristina in Japan Wow that's awesome! Contacting the board of education... I don't have a general contact, but I have specific email addresses for people. Are you a JET?
Kristina in Japan Hahaha I remember those days.. good times. Oh that's cool! Well, the email addresses that I know of are of the JET prefectural advisors. They're at this link: sites.google.com/site/kyotojets/contact
Hey man, I have a question for you! I'll be a JET this coming year in Miyagi prefecture, and one of my biggest concerns (beyond not having enough starting cash) is what sort of preparations should I make while I'm here? Are there any forms, paperwork, or other things that you wish you knew before you left? I want to make sure I do everything I can before I head over to Japan in 3 weeks. Thanks! Love the vids
Awesome! And to be honest, there wasn't really anything other than what that JET things to do list said. One thing that's important is that if you're from the US, don't' forget the tax forms that you get in the mail. I forgot mine and had to have them express mailed to me lol
Hi Bill! I ended up moving back to the States so I don't really upload anymore. I do have some leftover old footage left which I might upload sometime and also give a life update. I do plan on moving back to Japan at some point so the channel may very well come back!
@@fahadinjapan nice dude. When are gonna move back? Just wanna know when I should be potentially looking forward to the channel returning. Also a life update or some old footage would be fantastic!
@@billbosconovitch752 Mann I know I still get messages asking if I’m alive lol, a life update would be good. I’m hoping end of year! Big life changed planned this year and Japan would be the final destination lol
