Despite travelling fairly consistently, I'd not been abroad on holiday in nearly 2 and a half years, I'd also not flown Jet2 since January 2020, so to say I was looking forward to this trip, is an understatement. This years family holiday was to Salou to visit Portaventura, and this warranted a trip on Jet2 to BCN to get the full holiday experience. Initially there was a few issues with Jet2 in relation to cancelled flights and delayed refunds, so it's fair to say they had a little bit of making up to do with the experience.
The day was immediately off to a good start as flying out of Manchester Terminal 2 is a really pleasant experience, bag drop was a breeze with a quick check of the relevant COVID documents before heading through into the absolutely stunning new departures area. I spent some time here having a look around before walking down to the A Pier where my aircraft, G-JZBD, was waiting. I always seem to be lucky when flying Jet2 737-800's as each time, I have ended up on one of their newer aircraft. This 4 year old example is also the first 737-800 I've flown on in the Jet2Holidays livery.
Boarding was completed just before 8am and we pushed back with a few minutes of delay. The taxi from Stand 101 to the threshold of Runway 23R is just about the longest it can be within Manchester Airport but luckily it wasn't too busy so we were underway in no time. With this being a morning flight it felt fitting to once again try the pre-order hot breakfast which comes with the main meal, bread and butter, a snackbar and a drink of choice for £10. As ever, it lived up to expectations and was lovely. The flight was just over 2 hours and went by very quickly, there was some fantastic air to air views with a KLM 777 and a Magma 747 as well as some stunning views of the Pyrenees. We began a scenic and sunny approach into Barcelona, landing towards the East on Runway 07L this time, we touched down and parked around a few minutes early. As with Manchester, the whole process of getting documents checked was really easy and straightforward and I was through the airport ready to get the first of 3 trains to Salou. This itself was quite an interesting experience with some stunning views from the train, so I've decided to include this in the video.
Overall then this was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. It was great to experience a true holiday flight for the first time in so long. The departure experience from Manchester was smooth and really enjoyable with appropriate Covid safety measures taken in the airport. The flight itself was amazing, with a great cabin, a fantastic crew looking after everyone, some tasty and enjoyable food, stunning views along the way and a punctual and smooth arrival experience. Jet2 more than redeemed themselves from the earlier refund issues. This is definitely the best flight experience I've had during the pandemic and possibly one of the best of all time.
